sort-of fix for net rpc vampire account creation
This patch allows net rpc vampire to create accounts in the same way that smbpasswd does, i.e. it will attempt to use the appropriate account creation function for the backend in use. From reading the comments on the top of the local_password_change function, either I shouldn't be going this route or local_password_change is due for some sort of change in status. The only major caveat I've

Samba PDC+LDAP on FreeBSD
Hello, I am trying to use Samba (2.2.7a)+ LDAP (2.0.25) as PDC on FreeBSD 4.7. But it turned out that LDAP is not easy-going!!! Without LDAP, things seems fine. I can join the Win2000 machine accounts and the shares are all right. However, when configurating samba with ldap support, then smbpasswd couldn't work anymore. I can only use # smbpasswd -w secretpassword to add the

NT PDC to Samba PDC migratio
I thought that it was quite impossible to do that due to the Domain SID as well as the SAM list that currently Samba is unable to retrieve. (Not that it would have helped me any, since our old NT 4.0 PDC took a major Hardware failure.) How would one duplicate the SID, is that possible with 'smbpasswd -S' from the new Samba DC? approximate net rpc vampire HOWTO, as promised
Hi Folks, as promised, here's what I did to get net rpc vampire working. There's a question at the bottom that someone might be able to answer for me. If the detail below is sane, I'll tidy it up some and submit it as a proper HOWTO. If not, please tell me where I'm being insane :) ====================================================================== Using 'net rpc

Dear Samba gurus, I am still using Samba 2.2.8a; I have not seen an announcement that this issue would be fixed in 3.0.2; all that follows refers to 2.2.8a. Windows prompts for an account and password that is privileged to join the domain. A Samba administrative

smbpasswd error
Hi Samba people I saw this as a problem in the archives about a month ago but no solution ? I'm running samba 2.2.10 on Solaris 8. We have a script to replace /usr/bin/passwd which changes the NIS passwd and then uses smbpasswd to change the user's smb password to the same thing. which ACL attributes are supported by Samba?
I've tried to determine this empirically, but have run foul of config issues that won't be resolved in the immediate future. Basically, I know that Samba + ACL + an acl-aware filesystem will allow me to assign unix-style permissions to arbitrary groups of people for a given file. However, Windows has additional permissions: delete, take ownership, and, um, I think possibly one or two more.

Latest windows patches have screwed up samba
Others have posted already about this, but so far nobody in the know has responded: I am getting an invalid error message when changing user passwords from the client machine (for example, by using ctl-alt-del and selecting "change password") from at least one Windows XP pro workstation (my own -- I have yet to escelate this further, in case I figure out that it's something simple.)

Samba and Windows 2000 Password Authentication
Is there a way to configure Samba so that all password authentication is done through the Windows domain controllers? As I understand it, the variable "encrypt passwords" must be set to yes if "security" is set to "domain". This causes Samba to reference the smbpasswd file, so if the W2K user's password on the domain controller is not the same as that in the

Virus
Someone (who is on my email address list) said I sent an email with an attachment saying something about "Here is a game, I hope you should like it." If you receive any emails from me with an attachment be sure not to open it. It's a virus of some sort.
