How to verify the domain secret is good or bad?
I know there is the command "wbinfo -t". But when it says that "could not check secret", how do I know it's the secret is bad, or something else wrong, like winbind went crazy maybe? Also, sometimes I saw problems like "wbinfo -t" just says "secret is bad", when all the daemons were running. It sure was good at some point before. So my

NTFS file property - "primary group ID" instead of DACL
When I change file property - security from Windows, I can see both from packet sniffer and Samba code, that there are 4 types of "security information": Owner ID Reference Primary Group ID Reference Discretionary ACL Reference System ACL Reference So if I want to change the primary group name on a file, by right click on the file->property->security->advanced->select

Joining samba to AD domain with a non-admin user
I need help to resolve this issue. I saw that Andrew put a patch by Antti to enable users without full admin access to join samba into an AD domain. I am playing with it and always get "Insufficient access". Using the same user, I can join a Windows box into the domain just fine. The user is a member of "domain users", but not "domain admins". I can use a

Does 3.0 work with w2k sp3 and/or win 2003? Anybody had success?
I can't make it work although both sign&seal and restrictanonymous are set to 0. My setup is: w2k sp2 as PDC, w2k sp3 as client, samba 3.0a21 joined into the PDC domain as an ADS member. The scenario is, from the w2k sp3 client, connect to a share hosted by samba, create a file, then use property->security->add tab to add an ACE, then the browsing user/group windows appears

summary(list) is awesome, but I want more than summary
When I load a table from a data source and run summary() on it, the summary gives me basic summary statistics I'm looking for, and it also discriminates between quantitative and qualitative data and summarizes them accordingly. For example, if I do this: mydata <- read.table("data.txt") summary(mydata) I would get output like this: > summary(mydata) County

R can't load a large dataset
Dear R listers, I have a silly problem. I am trying to load a dta (Stata) file in R. The dta is about 650 MB and contains the integrated World Values Survey/ European Value Study data-set. My problem is that I don't manage to load the file. After almost 1 hour I issued the following command: data <- read.dta("http://www.stata-press.com/data/kkd/data1.dta", convert.dates = TRUE,

Does anyone have winbind working on Freebsd?
I have been trying to setup a Samba 2.2.6 server on FreeBSD 4.7. I want to use my NT4 domain for authentication of users. It looks like everything is setup properly as far as winbind is concerned, see below for results using wbinfo. I am still prompted for a password when trying to connect to the samba share. I cannot list the shares using "smbclient -L servername -Udomain+username"

Samba 3.0 - a bunch of really high level questions
Hello everyone... I am a long time samba user (3 or 4 years), though I never ventured into the alpha stages until recently (alpha 21, I'll move to 22 in the near future once I get a better idea of what's going on). I am very interested in Samba being part of a ADS domain, but I have been a little frustrated due to the lack of documentation. Specifically, I've read the HOWTO's from

ADS Join on Windows 2008 domain not working in 3.0.25b?
Hi, Using samba 3.0.25b, testing to join to a Windows 2008 domain using ADS security with kerberos and it doesn't seem to work. Anybody else tried this combination? Same configuration worked joining to a Windows 2003 R2 domain. I'm not a samba expert but looking at the log it looks like the not_defined_in_RFC4178@please_ignore have something to do with it? Output from "net

Is anyone using Isilon OneFS in combination with Samba with AD authentication ?
Hi, We are in the process of testing a migration of our current setup which contains Samba 4 as Classic DC with LDAP backend, Isilon OneFS bulk storage serving NFS/SMB shares and Windows/Mac/Linux clients to a more modern Samba 4 AD. We need to migrate to Samba AD because of Windows 10 and macos 10.13.x (and for several other reasons). But we run into an issue with authenticating the clients

Isilon OneFS storage
I am wondering if anyone has any experience with the Isilon OneFS storage system (http://www.isilon.com/) using NFS to host storage for Dovecot. Thanks

No connect to/from other machines on remote ethernet
Hi all, I have finally got tinc working, but it?s only between server/client. Client can receive broadcast packets from server ethernet, and pings between them is fine. If I ping tinc client(192.168.88.166) from any machine in my server lan, 192.168.88.0/24, all packets timed out, and nothing received by the client. Any ideas? Thanks! btrfs for clustered/distributed storadge (Isilon, Panasas, ceph)
.. it would be great if btrfs could be expended about abilities that OneFS file system has (FS by Isilon) .. there is ceph open source clustered/distributed storage system that is using btrfs, maybe work with those people would be a good start http://ceph.newdream.net/about/ http://ceph.newdream.net/ -- To unsubscribe from this list: send the line "unsubscribe linux-btrfs" in the body

Unable to get IP address from DHCP on remote end.
Hi all, I followed the guide "simple-bridging-with-dhcp", which has two parts: http://www.tinc-vpn.org/examples/simple-bridging-with-dhcp-server-side/ http://www.tinc-vpn.org/examples/simple-bridging-with-dhcp-client-side/ I have altered two things to fit my needs, 1) DHCP server(host:pek1) is on client side ethernet, so I have bridged eth0 and tun1 together; 2) Network/Server/Client

VMs won't power on
Hello - I have installed the VMware-server-1.0.5-80187.i386.rpm package on a CentOS 5.1 system. I then ran the vmware-config.pl program. I chose mostly default answer, except that I did not choose the NAT option; I saw no errors. I used the VMware Server Console to create a Red Hat Linux VM. I also copied an externally created VM into the '/var/lib/vmware/Virtual Machines/'
