Memory leak with XP Clients
Hello, I am having a serious problem with clients that are connecting to our Mandrake 8.1 server that is using the Samba 2.2.2 RPM. After a few days of having the computers on they will start to take up 200M of ram as reported by top. I don't have this problem with any of the other clients, Win2k, ME, 98 or 95. Is there a setting I need to change on the client side? The only way to

I/O load distribution
Hi, What is the best way to deal with I/O load when running several VMs on a physical machine with local or remote storage? What I'm primarily worried about is the case when several VMs cause disk I/O at the same time. One example would be the "updatedb" cronjob of the mlocate package. If you have say 5 VMs running on a physical System with a local software raid-1 as storage and

Looking for a script to add/remove multiple shares from smb.conf
Has anyone ever written a script to remove individual shares from the smb.conf file? I am trying to put together a script that will add & remove multiple shares at once by giving a <sharelist as input to the script. Adding shares is easy because I can just append the shares to the smb.conf file, but removing individual share entries within the smb.conf file without messing up the

Port 139 versus Port 445
I've noticed that my W2K clients connect to Samba much more quickly if I run it on port 445 instead of 139. However, my WNT clients then won't connect at all. I read somewhere that it was possible to forward the requests on port 139 to port 445. Anyone know how to do this or how to listen to both ports simultaneously? Thanks, Jason Joines Open Source = Open Mind

pre-/postexec in printers-section
Hi, after updating our printserver from Samba V2.0.6 to V2.2.7 I encountered the following problem. Samba does not execute the (root) pre- and postexec within the printers section. If you are using these command in another section everything works fine. Does anybody know if these command are not supported in the printers section anymore? smb.conf: [global] ... load printers = yes lpq cache

File Permissions
I have set up Samba so that all users on my small network can read from my one of my Linux shares as well as write to that share. However, when user A saves a file to that share, user B can't open it -- and vice versa. How can I set up samba so that all files written to that share can be read, modified, and deleted by all users? Thanks in advance for an answer to this question.

Shortened sharenames
Doing a little shell scripting with smbclient and noticed that smbclient -N -L host only displays the first 13 charachters of the sharename. Since that is totally crippled feel like I must be missing something obvious, but can't track it down. Any pointers on getting FULL sharenames using smbclient? Thanks for the help - AZ
