samba PDC profile issues with winxp and win9x
OK, I've tried to "read the fine material" and have read more than one reference and more than a few months worth of threads in the archives, but I am still stumped with this issue. When using logging on with Win9x, there is a profile error #4, and it complains that it was not able to open or create a file in the \\regmain\[username]\.profile\Cookies folder on login and sign out.

Can't add print drivers for existing printers
I've just upgraded from Samba 2.0 (Debian 2.2 "potato") to Samba 2.2 (Debian 3.0 "woody"), and I'm trying to get the print driver functionality working. My test server is a Debian 3.0r1 system running Samba 2.2.3a. My test client is running Windows 2000 Professional SP1. I'm following the procedure in the Samba-HOWTO-Collection, namely: Browse to the Samba

getting swat to run on Hewlit Packard HPUX 10.20
I've just downloaded and installed the SAMBA binaries for HPUX 10.20. I'm been unsuccessful in getting swat to run though. I've made the correct entries in the /etc/services file (swat 901/tcp) and in the /etc/inetd.conf file (swat stream tcp nowait.400 root /opt/samba/bin/swat swat) and have shutdown and restarted the inetd daemon. When I use Netscape and access

link_to 'Frob', '/thang/frob', :remote => true
Railsters: I have finally gotten back to Rails, and I''m having the usual "a little bit too flexible for your own good" problems. Specifically, the above in my Haml renders this: <a href="/thang/frob" data-remote="true">Frob</a> I need href=''#'' and an Ajax call. What did I do wrong? (Besides, ahem, attempt to read the fine

git .gitignore vs exclude file
I am a bit confused about the different purpose of each. I think the .gitignore file belongs in the root of my project and is project specific, but that also seems to be the reason for the .git/ info/exclude file what happens if they conflict? which one wins. What is standard practice? My exclude file looks like this # git-ls-files --others --exclude-from=.git/info/exclude log/*.log tmp/**/*

emtpy directory after install of Windows Application
Hello, I'm fairly new to Linux and I like it a lot. Unfortunately some of my favorite applications are Windows based, so I started looking into Wine. I don't have a Windows installation. I got a few 16 bit and 32 bit applications to work, but as soon as I try to set up an application that tries to write files into a folder with spaces, like 'Program Files', the destination

Samba 2.2.7a and cups 1.1.18
Hi I have installed samba-2.2.7a and cups-1.1.18. After reading all the documentation samba provides as well as the cups administrators guide I am still stuck. I have added the printers just the way the samba and cups documentation says. Anyway here is my output from cupsaddsmb, It fails on the last step, so i have run that manually again afterwards with debugging enabled. I believe this to be

New Bind Update
I was wondering if the new bind update is going smoothly for those who have done it? I've been a little hesitant to run it yet as the last time forced a bit of time fixing things. I'm trying to plan if I need to have some hours available for this or if it is like most of the time.. just do it and everything's ok. Best, John Hinton
