DNS server and printing.
Good afternoon, This is my first post, so please be gentle ;) Anyway, here's my question....I've recently put together a Linux Server for our company, replacing an old Novel server. I have the box set up with Samba, as a PDC on our network. So far, just about everything is working correctly. One issue I'm coming up against, though, is printing from DOS. I have Samba

cups printing
I have searched around the samba documentation, including the smb.conf man page, and have found nothing regarding the cups printing system except change printcap to cups. Now, I have done that, but printing still does not work. I need some types of details and a sample smb.conf and/or any other relevant documentation. Thanks much, George D. Plymale

Samba 3, Windows XP SP1
Hello everyone, I am having a problem I can't find an answer to. Background: We had a RH 7.3/8.0 box with samba 2.2.7. Workstations were Windows 2000. We have 5 roaming users with laptops. when the roaming users would go home, they were able to log into the laptops without the presence of the domain (an yes, they were logging into the domain user at home). Current problem: Running RH 9.0

Windows notification
Good morning everyone, Does anyone know of a way for Samba, or Linux, to send a notification to Windows users, as they log in, that there password has or is expiring in a certain number of days? I've thought about sending a network broadcast using Samba, but I have no idea how to do it automatically, based on a 60 day password life and X number of days warning before it expiring. Right now,

Use client driver
Good day everyone, Just a quick question. When using Samba 2.2.7a and Cups 1.17 or 1.18, is it good or bad to use "Use client driver" as a share setting on the Printers share? I used it with LPD, but I'm not real sure it's necessary with cups. Thanks in advance Darin Bawden TeamDME! Technical Support (615) 333-1900 dbawden@teamdme.com

Samba and Cups - number of copies
Hi all... I need some docs about how to intergrate cups with samba... I have install samba 3.2.5 and cups 1.3.8 on Debian Lenny system. I have install a printer ( Ricoh Aficio 3245C PS ) and have work fine... But when I follow the job on /var/log/cups/page_log, I always see that number of copies is 1, doesn't matter if the jobs has 5 or 10 pages... It's always show 1 on page_log... I

PDC and logon script - try 2
Hi everyone, I have a question about the logon script command. I've read and read and read the man page for smb.conf. In essence, I've duplicated the settings on the PDC how-to document to create a PDC with a logon script. However, when I log in, the scrips doesn't run. The only thing I don't have enabled, like the how-to, is roaming profiles. I'll include my smb.conf for

Connection failed with smbclient
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Folks, I looked through the archives, but didn't see anything like this. I have a network with a mix of Win95, Win98, and WinME clients (and one Linux system w/ Samba server version 2.2.2). All systems belong to a workgroup called "Oteima". All Win95 and Win98 clients see all other systems (including the Linux box) in one list.

odd behavior when multiplying data frame by an element
could someone explain what is happening below ? I was trying to solve a related question on the list and then , as I was solving it, I was getting strange answers and then I noticed below. cups printing and user names from trusted domains
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Im currently running some tests for a samba/CUPS based print server. The print server is a member of an NT domain and uses winbind to import NT domain users. Users accessing the print server will be not from the same domain but from trusted domains. Everything basically seems to work, once you use sufficiently new versions of cups and samba. Using color and plotting characters in a scatterplot matrix [Newbie Help]
Hello guys, I have this data set that I imported into R using a line: This data set consists of 7 columns. The two important columns are the first one called 'thrust' and the last one called 'amtemp'. jet<-read.table("jetthrust.txt", fill=T, head=T) I am making a scatterplot matrix simply using the line "pairs(jet)" The problem is that in the last

what causes CUPS to dis-enable a printer?
In our computer lab, there are 6 Centos 5.4 workstations. There is an HP printer with jet direct card. It often works. But sometimes users come and get me saying the printer is broken, but it is actually working fine for *most* of the workstations. On the troubled system, I run system-config-printer and I check the printer in question (under properties) and I see the printer has been disabled.

client ip no longer listed in cups page log
Greetings Admins, We use samba 3.0.7 with cups 1.1.20 to serve printing to XP clients. samba and cups originally sat on the same debian machine. Due to load issues, we've moved cups to a separate debian machine and added the 'cups server =' directive to smb.conf. After this, the XP client IP is no longer listed in cups page_log, the samba server IP is listed instead. We need
