Re: ATARAID on 2.4.19?
> Did you ever find out what was wrong? Nope, and personally I think there's a bug in 2.4.19. Since I sent the email below I did a make oldconfig and went thru the new options very carefully - no luck. I'm still running on 2.4.18, and I can compile a kernel, install, and it works fine. Ext3 fatal errors with Promise RAID
Today our server had seriuos problems, we had to reinitiate it and run fsck manually. Dou you think it's an ext3, kernel (vanilla 2.4.19) or hardware bug? The errors were (from syslog): -------------------------------- Oct 6 16:10:25 nou kernel: attempt to access beyond end of device Oct 6 16:10:25 nou kernel: 72:02: rw=0, want=230266240, limit=4882432 Oct 6 16:10:25 nou kernel: attempt

Promise TX2 and ATARAID....... kjouirnald and kupdated seem to fight it out for reasourses
What is really puzzling me is that the ataraid device (/dev/ataraid/d0p1 mounted as /bigdisk) 2x 123GB IBM Deskstar's is formated as ext2...top and ps etc... show a fight between kjournald and kupdated and all searches for kjournald or kupdated fights suggest ext3 issues... :-) It's a RedHat 7.2, 2.4.7-10 custom kernal (I added in the Promise FastTrak support and HIGH mem support to

ext3 + quota + 2.4.19 + load
hi, I was trying to use ext3 with quota and 2.4.18, but when the system had sustained load, eventually the system fell on deadlock. By that time, I was told to use the latest -ac patch, and maybe the problem would no longer exist. But instead I went back to ext2 and waited for 2.4.19 to come out. Now I tryed 2.4.19 with ext3 and all the same thing, but the system hanged up again. Please tell

external journal device
I'm trying to setup an external journal device, but it won't mount as ext3. I can only mount it as ext2. Everything seems happy when I run the commands. It will work when I don't use the external device. This is on RH7.2, linux-2.4.18-rc2. [root@dhcp4 root]# mke2fs -O journal_dev /dev/hdb5 [root@dhcp4 root]# mke2fs -j -J device=/dev/hdb5 /dev/hdb6 [root@dhcp4 root]# mount -t ext3

Linux 2.4.18 on RH 7.2 - odd failures
Hi there, I'm using RH7.2 (with the 2.4.9-30 kernal and it's required components) as a base for a server system running kernel 2.4.18. I've gone to this version to get around non-performing aic7xxx drivers in the stock 7.2 kernels, and updated gigabit ethernet drivers. I have a raid unit (Medea) attached to an Adaptec 3916, coming up as sdb. It has 2kb blocks, but the fault

ext3 corruption with vanilla kernel 2.4.19?
Hello After compiling and booting a RH 8.0 box with a 2.4.19 vanilla kernel i've started to experience some problems on my /home partition, (i/o errors on 2 files). After rebooting the machine failed the to mount /home and dropped me in the recovery shell. The fsck is still running after 9 hours. The system is a dual athlon MP with 1Gb ram and ASUS MB. the /home patrition is mounted on 3 120

ext3 and 2.4.x kernels
Dear list readers - it was brought to my attention that during the upgrade of a server to rh7.2, and selecting the ext3 migration works well with 1 exception that i need verified if i could please. i heard that once you migrate to ext3, you may no longer do a kernel upgrade without downgrading to ext2 and then putting the kernel or AC kernel in place 'patched'. What i need to know

rights to change ACL's
Hi all, Installation: RH7.2, 2.4.18 kernel, XFS patch, samba-2.2.4 in windows 2000 domain environment. Authentification is done through winbind daemon. I want only particular users (say, group "Domain Admins") have the ability to change permissions (ACL's), not the owners of file/directory. Is it possible to implement this? On very different journalling activity on 2 servers.
Hello Folks, We have 2 (identical hardware) busy public 2U rack servers, both have several hundred users & peak email (for example) deliveries at 300/5min during the daytime. Both servers run RAID1 over 2 EIDE disk drives. One server is fine - it never has problems - it is running RH7.3 and CPU loads are normal. The other server has constant disk activity & kjournald at CPU load of

ext3 hang with smp 2.4.18, 2.4.19-pre2 systems
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I am running a dual Athelon/Tyan MP system. It is a pretty simple minded setup, 512 MB ram + a few ide disks. No raid, no scsi, no disk quotas, no nfs, no samba. Recently I have been able to hang the system (requiring hardware reset, can't ping, console frozen) at will by doing large compile jobs. This has occurred with a stock RedHat 7.3

ext3 corruption
Hi there, I'm running RH7.2 with ext3, and everything's been going great, except that my root filesystem won't mount due to some kind of corruption. When I try to mount, I get EXT3-fs: unsupported inode size: 61267 Yikes. Any suggestions? trying 'fsck -n -t ext3' suggests using an alternate superblock, but this doesn't change anything. Even a mechanism to

ext3 corruption
Hello, Over the last month or so, I've noticed the following error showing up repeatedly in my system logs under kernel 2.4.18-ac3 and more recently under 2.4.19-rc1: EXT3-fs error (device ide0(3,3)) in ext3_new_inode: error 28 I've now been able to capture the following Oops before the system went down entirely: Assertion failure in do_get_write_access() at transaction.c:611:

Re: Linux EXT3 support? problems flushing?
Paul, I don't know if this helps but I'm running RH7.2 on ext3 with Samba 2.2.1a & Quotas, I haven't heard any users complain yet, (300 total users). I don't believe any of them are using Outlook though, but they are using the Samba for their Groupwise MailArchive. Hope this helps... -Dusty > -----Original Message----- > From: Gerald Carter

Newbie: IE5.5
howdy, i am very new to WINE and have looked around for some docs on howto get IE5.5 running, but can't seem to find anything straight foward. i just installed RH7.2, and am running Ximian GNOME, without a Windows partition. WINE is apparently installed by default with RH7.2. i tried the simple 'archnid' (solitaire) program and seemed to work ok. however, i have the IE5.5 executable,

Ext3 problems possibly plauging me
Hello. My box has been running flawlessly for months now, but in the last 2 days hasn't stayed up for more than 5 minutes. All this seemed to have started after I did a very very bad thing...... I ran the EXT2 to EXT3 conversion on my root filesystem. I used the "tune2fs -j /dev/sda1" to do the deed. After it completed the machine ran fine (the machine was up and serving when I

RE: [PATCH] smbfs readdir fix (CFT: NetApp, OS/2)
Vlad. I still got the same problem - 'ls | wc -l' returned incorretc numbers. I installed the following patches with the sequence vs. the kerner 2.4.18: 1. 00-smbfs-2.4.18-codepage.patch.gz 2. 01-smbfs-2.4.18-lfs.patch.gz 3. 02-smbfs-2.4.18-unicode.patch.gz 4. smbfs-2.4.19-pre9-readdir.patch After installed patches, I ran 'make modules' and so on.
