I wonder why the other windows machines are not showing up in network neighborhood? Try sharing some things between windows machines. Maybe you have something misconfigured on the windows side. There is a script, findsmb, which comes with samba. First turn off nmbd (killall nmbd) ,

I am not sure if this is the SAMBA problem or the NT problem(we are using Windows Terminal Server Edition). Sometimes, he experiences these message "cannot open read only file" or "this file is opened by administrator,

When run by root, smbpasswd accesses the local smbpasswd file directly, thus enabling changes to be made even if smbd is not running. (and not in the client server mode it does a normal user) And this may be the difference when using smbpasswd on the unix promt to change root's smb and unix password. Which isn't working for me and I think it's good this way. Christian (who is

As user "barth" I conect to this using \\<Samba-Server>\<any username> permission is checked for "barth" with his password and access is granted with the rights of barth to the HOME-directory of <any username>. So far so good. This also works
