changing domains
Hi, We're going through a massive IT upgrade at our company. All of the Windows computers are begin migrated to a new domain. I want to move our Red Hat 7.2 Samba server to the new domain. I changed the domain name using SWAT. I checked that the new domain name was entered in /etc/samba/smb.conf. But the Samba server isn't showing up in the new domain in the Network Neighborhood on

printing from xp
Hi, I've installed Samba 2.2.7a on a Red Hat 9 machine. This machine is also running VMware with Windows XP as the guest OS. The XP virtual machine can access the Linux host's shared directories, but not the printer. The printer is an Epson Stylus Color 860. It works fine in the Linux host. In the XP guest, I can see the printer in the add printer configuration wizard. But when

I guess so do I ;-) Using the new approach I posted to samba-list earlier today, it is not really all that tricky any more. Watch for my reports on the list, you may be able to implement what I've done

samba with vmware
Hi, I just installed Red Hat 9 on a Dell Latitude D600 laptop. Then I installed VMware 4 and installed Windows XP as the guest operating system. I want to run Samba on the Red Hat 9 host to share files with the Windows XP guest. Each OS individually is running fine. I compiled Samba 3.0.2 on the Red Hat host, but I can't start Samba. I try starting it with "/usr/sbin/smbd -D",

Generic smb.conf file
Hi, Does anybody know where I can get an untouched smb.conf file? When I used samba-swat, it rewrote smb.conf and deleted out the comments that was in the original file that came with samba. Codecs for use with Cisco 7960 and ATA-186
Are there any other codecs that can be used with the 7960 and the ATA-186? I have been using the default gsm codec and wanted to see if I could make use of something a little less bandwidth intensive. Appleshare IP 6.2 and smbfs
Hi, I'm having trouble connecting to an Appleshare IP 6.2 Mac that is doing SMB file sharing from my RedHat Linux 7.2 box. I've looked and looked and looked at many things and many SMB clients. I've tried smbclient, smbmount, Sharity, and even just doing a mount -t smbfs. All of them come back with something of this form: Protocol Negotiation Failed SMB connection failed. I

Login Failure
Greetings. Is there something up with Samba and RedHat, or with recent kernels, or with some packages that have been updated recently? A lot of us seem to see the same login errors with samba and I have yet to get my windows clients to login to my new samba server. The log messages really don't help. I had an old server running Samba 2.0.7 (RedHat 5.0 upgraded to nearly 5.2 with 2.0.33).

open script file from command line
Hi all, Is there a function to open a script file from the command line? I have several students who are Mac users and when they open up a script file it does not send commands to the console, and unfortunately I don't know how to solve this problem since I am not a Mac user. I have looked over the FAQ for Mac users, but didn't see a reference to the problem. I think they are both

Samba 2.2.1a - ls inconsistancies.
I am running Red Hat 7.2 and using smbmount to mount a PC share from a NT4 SP5 Workstation. I have a folder, in this share, of around 300 files and when I do ls -l I get inconsistencies. Sometimes files are missing, and if I keep repeating the command the files are then appear again. Other times the size information is wrong. No one else is using, or changing, any of the files on the source

I have a very strange problem, which no one has been able to fathom to this point so I'm hoping that someone here may have encountered something similar. I'd better note down some background details first. Relevant machines involved: Win2K Adv. Sysadmin Question
Hi, I just installed Samba 2.2.2, using the default installation directories, on a RH 7.2 system. It seems to be up and running fine, but I still have the old 2.2.1a files installed the way RH likes them. I'm not a guru, so should I worry about this? Should I uninstall the 2.2.1a files? Will there be any conflicts? Should I care? Many thanks. Joe -- Joe Follansbee Streaming Media
