Locking between GNU/Linux and Microsoft Windows
Hi, I'm having some trouble with locking between GNU/Linux and Microsoft Windows. I wrote some Clipper code that run's on GNU/Linux and Microsoft Windows (compiled to different binaries ofcourse) that tries to lock a file on a Samba share. Between Microsoft Windows clients there is no problem. The locking works as expected. If one client does an EXCLUSIVE lock, the other's can't

Locking problem
Hi all! I am using Debian Sarge with Samba version 3.0.14a-Debian and experience a locking problem: the program is a linux port of a Clipper program compiled with xHarbour (www.xharbour.org). It uses byte-range-locking to lock a record of a dbf database. If I mount the server directory over an smbmount and start 2 clients on the server accessing the server directory over the smbmount, the

FoxPro's lock function over SAMBA file server
I have a very nasty problem on a small network using a linux 2.2.5-15 and Samba 2.0.3 (RH 6.0) server and two clients Win95 and Win98. I have to use a program of commercial administration made in clipper . On Novell servers this program works fine but on Samba server It does not allow that the two stations access the same file concurrently. The same problem is shown when in Fox Pro I am

Hello all, I have a samba 2.2.1a server running as the PDC of my network on a Mandrake 8.0 system with a reiserFS partition. I am serving for the win98 clients a small DOS clipper program with a DBF database. The programs run well on the workstations when there is only one user using it, when another user try to use the same program it starts to get very slow. I think this is a lock

[PATCH] ./configure fails to recognize alphapca56 (R-1.1.0)
I think I reported this bug in the past. At that time, I was told that it is a bug of autoconf. ./configure does not recognize Linux on DEC Alpha 21164PC (a cheap version of Alpha EV56), so all the compilation flags were set incorrectly. I don't know the right way to fix it (I don't know how autoconf works yet ...), but the following patch fixes the problem. Thank you, Naoki Naoki

[OT] Canada on Rails by ferry?
Hey y''all, Are any folks planning on taking the ferry from Seattle to Vancouver (via Victoria)? I''ve never done it before so I have no idea how much of an adventure it is. Flights are a $100+ less to Seattle than Vancouver so the price works out the same or a bit less. My plan is to fly to Seattle (from Savannah, GA) on Tuesday to catch the early ferry on Wednesday

Hello! Do someone use Samba 3.0.2 in production on file server? When I tired to migrate our fileserver to 3.0 from 2.2.8a with only 200 (or 300, hmm, I don't remember ;-) ) users, with about a 40-50 users, which use old dos clipper based application, I had locking problems (someone can say that this was not locking problem, but I think so). Now I want to try migration to 3.0.2. But, may be

Samba 2.2, locking, databases
I am responding to your post, listed below. I am having the same problem with GoldMine which I believe is written in much the same way as most clipper based applications. Did you ever resolve the issue? I just posted to the newsgroup but did not hear back yet. I pormise to post a summary should an answer show up. I'm running 2.2.1a and will soon move to 2.2.2 to avoid oplock problem.

Wine : error during compilation (mandriva 2006 - x86_64)
Hi, I have Mandriva 2006 x86_64. I tried to install wine, but the binaries are for 32 bits and the result is very instable (win programs close suddenly, no internet available for those programs, etc...) So I tried to compile wine 0.9.14 from source, but I have an error during make when "searching for -lXext" : LD_LIBRARY_PATH="../../libs/unicode:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH"

If I use the smbclient command on the Mandrake box I can log onto the share as

Call Transfer using SIP clients
Hello all, First of all, let me apologize about the length of this message, but I suppose it was necessary to include the details. I've spent quite some time already trying to get the call transfer function to work on my Asterisk installation. Let me first describe the general situation of the setup I am using, so you might be able to pinpoint the cause of the problem. I'm currently
