help with Win2k and Samba
Hello, I?ve been trying to solve a problem which i?m pretty sure it?s a "newbie problem"... I?ve installed Samba 2.0.7 on a Red Hat 7.1 machine, configured a small smb.conf file, updated the Windows registry with the "plain text passwords", and reviewed the DIAGNOSTICS.TXT about 10 times, every time, steps 1 - 7 work fine but step 8 (net view \\SambaServerName) fail. Also,

smbpasswd encryption (2.2.3a - RH 7.2 - kernel 2.4.7-10) Win2k
Hi listmembers, due to a few very short but good tips from you guys and to much hassle with my firewall (ipchains) I finally got samba running as a server and client (I even made an update from source, just with normal ./configure, make, make install after uninstalling the previous version of course). With "encrypted passwords = no" everything is working fine (except for some minor

wireless vpn + nat
Hey guys, I installed tinc on a linux server which connects to the internet. That server is linked via a wireless link with a Windows 2000 workstation. I installed tinc on the windows box too, and the vpn works neat. The only problem is I don't know if the windows tap driver is able to forward unknown IPs to a gateway. This is because if I try to ping 10.0.0.1 which is just another

Windows won't send passwd to samba server
Hello I cannot get my Windows98 machines to connect to my Samba server(2.2.4) shares. It appears that my Win machines are not transmitting the password. The Samba server looks OK. On the server machine, "smbclient -L <server> -U user1" prompts me for a passwd, then, after authentication, displays the shares. When I attempt to map a share from my Win machines, the samba log file

Hi All, very new to the linux thing. I have tried our local linux list but no luck. Win2K Profiles and a Samba PDC.
We're a Solaris/Linux shop, trying to migrate the last vestiges of our NT domain over to Samba. We've got a few users using Windows 20000 workstations, and for some odd reason can't get them to join the domain with local profiles. The Winboxen always try to create roaming profiles on the PDC (which we don't want), and there's no way to force a local profile, other than

\System32\GroupPolicy named pipe?
Hi - I'm using samba to connect some windows boxen to a distributed set of unix machines. I'm trying to unify some of the administrative interfaces via mmc, specifically the group policy stuff. When I try to use the Group Policy snap-in to connect to my samba 2.2.1 servers, I see the windows box do a Tree Connect Andx to ADMIN$\System32\GroupPolicy, and then the samba box responds with

Problem of accessing Redhat 7.3 from Win2K.

After started samba server, I found there is no way for me to access the Redhat machine from Win2K. Problems with ADS membership with win2k domain
I'm having problems with ADS membership for samba. I had a "mostly" working version with RHES v2.1, krb5 v1.2, samba v3.0.5. I knew to get to a fully functioning version I would need krb5 v1.3 or later. So finally I had an opertunity to junk RH's crufty krb5 and build from scratch with: RHES v2.1 MIT krb5 v1.4 samba v3.0.13 This works fine on another server. Now to the

It would be great if anyone can point me to

File cacheing problem?
I have a Linux box (Pentium III processor, 256M RAM) running kernel version 2.4.3, and smbmount version 2.0.7. The Linux box has a Windows 2000 Server share mounted via "mount -t smbfs ...". I am running into what seems to be a cacheing problem. I am doing software development on this share, editing the files from a Win98 workstation, and compiling on the Linux box. However,

Samba and RedHat 7.2
Well, I thought I was an "experience" samba user, but I've ran into something I've never seen before: All SAMBA protocols (smbd and nmbd) work fine on the "localhost", but do not work from a remote system (NT or Linux). This includes "telnet server 139". Basically, the telnet test works as one would expect from the localhost, but not from any remote system.

Redhat firewall problem...
I've just tried setting up a Shrike (9) version of Redhat. Using the medium settings of lokkit, then adding manually accept commands for ports 137/udp 138/udp, 139/tcp and 445/tcp, I thought I should have been ready to go. This isn't the case, however. I know it's not the smb.conf settup because when I kill iptables samba works. When iptables IS running however, it will respond

Win2K cannot retrieve print driver, XP is okay
Hi all, I'm having trouble persuading Windows 2000 to find the print driver on a CUPS/Samba 3.0.20 server. The whole system has been working perfectly with Windows XP clients for the last couple of months, but we have a few Windows 2000 PCs/servers that need to have the printers installed, and when double-clicking on a shared printer the Win2K machines are saying that the print server

Group policy for Win2K/XP
Has anyone looked in to domain policy for Win2K/XP machines from a SAMBA controlled domain? I have played around with these policies from within a Win2K AD-domain, and wondered if I can carry my policies over to a SAMBA domain. Any info, or reference to relevent documentation is appreciated. This mail has passed through an insecure network. All enquires should be directed to the message
