swat failed login caching?
Ok, so I'm not perfect I mistyped my password when logging into swat for the first time. Now when I try to reload the login page it immediately tells me authorization has failed without providing me a login/password field to enter my login details. I can't see any mention of a solution to this in the swat manpage what do I do now? Thanks

SWAT Bad Authorization!
Hi Using 2.2.1a and getting 401 SWAT Bad Authorization error. If I use the -a option everything is OK. The documentation refers to the -a option which leaves everything wide open but I can't find any documentaion regarding any other form of access control for SWAT. What actually controls the access? We installed from source with no selected config options. Hope someone can help, I have

SWAT and adding users.
Our local LUG (MadLUG, Madison WI USA) is setting up a small Linux Samba server for a local community center. Because much of the day to day administration will have to be done by community center personnel we are going with web based admin tools (Webmin, SWAT). Unfortunetly we have run into a few problems. NOTE: System is a SuSE 6.2 with a new 2.2.12 kernel on a P133, 32MB RAM 1) SWAT does

swat questions
I have 2 questions concerning swat: 1. On my test machine I have swat set up and working. I can only login to swat as anyone but root. I get: 401 Bad Authorization username or password incorrect, error. But I can login as a regular user just fine. I have other samba servers set up and root can login with no problem, so something is configured wrong on this machine. Here is my smb.conf file:

Trouble with root password in SWAT
I have been kind of fortunate in adjusting my SWAT information, and now can reach the SWAT3 interface through port 902 (thanks!), but now I have an even more interesting snag. Konqueror and Mozilla, when going to localhost:902 (what I set SWAT3 to respond to), will prompt a login box. The site is called "SWAT at localhost". I put in the root username, and the root password. It then

SWAT login agony
I've installed the latest/greatest from Samba (3.0.alpha...). I've been following the directions from this site (http://samba.linuxbe.org/en/samba/learn/swat.html) on how to set up SWAT for configuring Samba. The problem I'm running into is logging into SWAT. I've tried every user imaginable and still no luck. I've enabled the SWAT service using xinetd, and it actually

SWAT login - is password entry secure?
Samba group members, Is the password that I specify when logging into SWAT handled securely? I'd like to use the Samba Web Administration Tool (SWAT) to create and administer Samba "shares" that will be used by our users of ClearCase on Windows. That requires that I log in to the Samba host as "root". I access SWAT via Internet Explorer (from any machine) buy

SWAT and authentication
What's the deal with SWAT authentication? I have a Freebsd 4-Stable box running SWAT from the Samba 2.0.7 port and I can log into SWAT as a regular user (ie, not root but has a smbpasswd entry) and make any changes I want to the smb.conf file -- which is 0644 root.wheel. I'm presuming this is because my inetd.conf entry for SWAT has it running as root as per the example. Is this how

System password to login to SWAT
Hi! I'm running a Samba server at a University Department. I'd like to let my users change their "Samba password" through SWAT. So i've done a few hacks in swat.c Nothing much, essentialy i've adapted the interface and removed the other stuff. I don't have password sync between Samba and the system, because i want to let my users have separate passwords. Well...

SWAT login fails
Hi, I'm a linux newbie so be nice. I have recently installed a Smoothwall Express 2 firewall with fixes7, and am trying to get a Samba server to run on this machine. I compiled the lastest stable release of samba on this machine and it seemed to go fine. I then compiled xinetd and configured the xinetd.conf file for SWAT. Using a putty SSH session I ran the the command xinetd -d to

Bug in Swat samba-swat-3.0.2a-3mdk
There is a bug in Swat package samba-swat-3.0.2a-3mdk The password functions are not working: add user, change password, enable user. If you add or enable a user, the user will be disabled. You can check this by opening /etc/samba/smbpasswd file. Entry will look like: johnz:500:XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX:XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX [DU?????????]:LCT-00000000: The 32 X indicates that

SWAT: Non privileged user cannot access secrets.tdb
Dear samba-ers, I have installed SWAT so that my samba users can change their passwords easily and remotely as they do not have login access to the samba server. Broadly speaking my problem is that when registered as a user, it seems that swat cannot access the file /var/lib/samba/private/secrets.tdb Version info: Linux platform: CentOS 6.5 Linux Kernel: 2.6.32-431 Samba: 3.6.9-167.el6_5
