Directory rename problem with smbclient
I am trying to use smbclient to migrate data from OS/2 LanServers to a filesystem on an AIX 4.3.1 machine. Everything works great except renaming directories on the OS/2 LanServer. I get the error ERRDOS - ERRbadfile (File not found.) renaming files when I do a "rename <existing_dir_name> <new_dir_name>" at the prompt, but <existing_dir_name> exists. I connected to a

character translations with smbclient (was Share Access)
Hi, Thanks for the tip. I went to the Netherlands last week so didn't get a chance to try this out until this week. I upgraded to samba 2.2.3a and that helped. The bad news is that it only solved some of the problems. The file link to the floppy backs up now as the translation of the link is consistent somehow, but the character translation on the $ (dollar sign) and ? (pound sign) is not

Error Mapping Clearcase Views/Vobs using Samba
Hi All, Users at our site are using SAMBA (Version 2.0.8 and 1.9.15p8) to map their Home Directories and their Clearcase Vobs/Views on their Windows 2000 desktops. Home directories are being mapped without any issues but while mapping their views/vobs we are getting the error stated below: Network path \\server name\share could not be found and The mapped network drive could not

Lots of ERRbadfile and Expected SMBtrans2 responses with smbclient
Hi all, I am using Amanda and smbtar for backing up Windows machines. However, in addition to the errors I get on open files (which is to be expected), I am getting errors on files that should be fine to access. Here is a snippet from the Amanda log which contains smbclient errors: ? code 0 opening remote file \ebsco-1064\cueanalysisnew.zip (\ebsco-1064\) ? Expected SMBtrans2 response, got

Need help diagnosing ERRbadfile messages
Hi all, I posted this to the list a few weeks ago but got no response. I'm running Amanda and smbtar and trying to back up some files on a Windows 2000 machine. I've verified that the files it's trying to back up are NOT open and permissions are fine for it to be backed up. This is a sample of the messages: ? code 0 opening remote file \ebsco-1064\cueanalysisnew.zip

Upgrade & directory permissions
I've just upgraded the version of Samba we're running from 2.2.2 to 3.0.2a and am seeing an issue with permissions on directories. Users can still map the shares that are set up, but cannot access the directories within those shares. This is also not consistent; it's not happening to all users. Our environment: Samba 3.0.2a Domain Authentication to a Win2K server No Winbind Solaris

smbtar
To all, Can SambaTar backup multiple "pc's" at once ? I have 5 Win95 machines with 9 different drive partitions. What would be the proper syntax ( if any) to specify multiple pc and multiple share names ? I would like to do one complete backup on a single 4mm DAT tape. Is there a better way to do this using Samba ? I am using Samba version 1.9.17p4 running on Sun Solaris 2.5.1

MS Patch MS04-011 & Samba upgrade
If I have a Samba server that is part of a Windows 2000 domain and is not a domain controller (all of our authentication goes against a Windows 2000 box), do I need to upgrade to 3.0.4/2.2.9? What is the interaction between a Samba server that is part of a domain and the Windows client if all of the authentication is being done against a Windows 2000 PDC? Problems with SMBCLIENT
Hi all, I am running SunOS 5.5.1 and am getting all sorts of problems. I am urgently in need of help. My Unix skills are limited. My first problem is starting the daemons. bind failed on port 139 socket_addr=0 (Address already in use) My second problem is the difference in the number of files dumped with either smbtar or smbclient. Here is the command that gives me the most problems. Notice

PATCH to Samba >= 2.2.1, accents and special chars
Okay, I've had some fun there. Let me tell I am no samba pro, so the patch below _should be tested and tested again_ in _your_ environment before doing anything close to putting your patched samba into production. It can possibly break everything. You have been warned. The mail is somehow longish, because sending a quick (and dirty) patch without any explanation seems wrong to me. And

Shares are not listed (Access denied)
Good Morning, I have almost the same problem. When I use smbclient -U% -L server I get a share List and Server List but instead of listing the shares it says "Error returning browse list: ERRDOS - ERRnoaccess (Access Denied)". Using the same smbclient command on the local server the shares will be listed. The users exist in the remote server and in the smbpasswd. Anyone got an idea what

Re: Apostrophes in Windows usernames (again)
I think I've narrowed down my problem, but I still don't know where to fix it. It appears that scanning the users.map file strips out the apostrophes and the Windows ID never matches: [2004/06/01 16:23:51, 10] lib/username.c:user_in_list(521) user_in_list: checking user o'brienta in list [2004/06/01 16:23:51, 10] lib/username.c:user_in_list(525) user_in_list: checking user

Problems with security = domain/server and samba 2.0.6
Every 12. day or so domain members changes passwords in the NT domain, and after a while (5 minutes normally) the NT PDC starts to sync against the BDCs in the domain. Before this syncing is done the authentication of new connections usually fails. We have a pretty large NT domain with 40.000+ users and the syncing process can take up to one hour, causing samba authentication to fail during this

smb_errno: class ERRDOS, code 112 from command 0xb
Hi. We run Samba 2.2.1a in production and it seems to be working fine. We run it on RedHat 7.2, kernel 2.4.7-10smp. All of a sudden (I'm sure it's for a reason, but I can't tell why), this shows up in the logs: Oct 15 10:36:03 mumbai kernel: smb_errno: class ERRDOS, code 112 from command 0xb Oct 15 10:36:03 mumbai kernel: smb_errno: class ERRDOS, code 112 from command 0xb Oct

net join & DNS
Is there an option to the net command to not have it update DNS in AD? We are joining servers using the net ads join command and it's changing our static DNS entries to dynamic ones which then get deleted when AD does its DNS scavenging. It seems that dynamically updating DNS is the default. The command we're running is: net ads join -U adminuser%adminpasswd Thanks - Mike Mike

Character set and client code page in samba 2.0.6.
Hello! I have some troubles with samba 2.0.6 concerning character set and client code page mapings. I have SCO OpenServer 5.0.5 and I've compiled samba using gcc 2.7.2.3. All Windows clients use code page 852 and server uses character set ISO8859-2. For this reason these parametres are set in smb.conf. This makes possible to copy files with

smbclient -L hostname -N ==>error
Hello, I am a Samba newbie, setting up Samba on a FreeBSD machine in a Windows (2K) environment [or the other way around] - all in a small LAN behind a DSL router / firewall. The machines recognize each other in that I can ping to both in either directions using either IP #'s or hostnames. On the PC's I am using LMHOST , no local WINS or local DNS (there are DNS's on the WAN side of
