Samba Won't Work
I tried to get Samba running on my new Trustix installation all day yesterday with no luck. I'm a newbie, so there's a lot I don't know yet. At any rate, I have the Smb, nmbd, and smbd services running. I've got my smb.conf file set up properly from what I can tell. When I try the following command on my Linux box: smbclient //192.168.1.102/backup -U jesse I get the error,

Urgent help required for a newbie!
Iam running Samba 2.0.10 on a FreeBSD 4.2 platform within a Windows 98/2k peer to peer network. Most of the time this system appears to be working very well with the file system nicely browsable by the client machines. Unfortunately, from time to time the following error appears within the log.smb: [2002/02/14 10:54:28, 3] lib/util.c:interpret_addr(1833) Get_Hostbyname: Unknown host. ed0

bug, smb 2.2.1a, redhat 7.2
i am not sure whether this is by default or not, but i think i found a tiny bug. (maybe by design, i am not a samba guru) Steps to reproduce: Create a loopback device without asigning an ip to it. (not sure whether it is also reproducable without the loopback device at all) set in smb.conf: bind interfaces only = yes interfaces = yourip According to what i could find in the docs it should now

nmbd quitting
I just can't find the answer to solve this issue and I thought someone would know the answer. Finally got SWAT running and configuring a clean smb.conf file. If I try to start nmbd or smbd, they load for a few seconds and then quit. log.nmb (etc/var/log/samba/) has the following; [2002/11/02 13:51:07, 0] lib/util_sock.c:open_socket_in(829) Get_Hostbyname: Unknown host sidekick I'm

Issue with drive replacement
In the process of replacing a raidz1 of four 500GB drives with four 1.5TB drives on the third one I ran into an interesting issue. The process was to remove the old drive, put the new drive in and let it rebuild. The problem was the third drive I put in had a hardware fault. That caused both drives (c4t2d0) to show as FAULTED. I couldn''t put a new 1.5TB drive in as a replacement -

all remote hosts refused
Any and all attempts to connect to our samba server, packaged in the redhat RPM found on samba.org, have failed. The allow statement is set to localhost, x.y.z. where x.y.z is our class C(ended with a period, as per the online help in SWAT.) Local connections via smbclient work beautifully, but connections from any other machine fails. I've followed the troubleshooting procedure to the

Users can't change their own password...
Hello, I've recently put Samba into production, and while I do love it, I am having a problem I can not figure out. It comes when a regular user tries to change their password. I have dug through the FAQ's I could find, and also looked through a few trouble shooting sections. Everything they suggest checks out. The server as a whole works great. If I log in as root and change a users

Windows XP and Samba
We have a local network with Samba 2.0.3 on SuSE-Linux and some Windows 95 and Windows 98 clients. All works fine. Now we have got a new Windows XP computer, and we found no way to connect to the Samba server from that computer. 1. The network card works. I can ping the server, and it replies. 2. The Samba server as well as the Windows XP computer are shown in the network neighbourhood. 3.

smbd does not run from inetd
Hello, I've a problem with Samba version 2.0.6, where smbd does not start from inetd. nmbd starts from inetd and "smbd -D" works fine as well. And I didn't have that problem with 2.0.4b. The following is an extraction of the smb.log, which shows an "read_socket_data: recv failure for 4. Error = Invalid argument" error. Regarding this problem, what is the difference

Multiple Ethernet Cards: Ignoring one of them
Hello, I have recently had 'Broadband' (Cable) Internet installed in my house and I have setup the my Linux PC to do Network Address Translation for my Windows PC. This system has worked well with the PPP modem, and I know that a full Proxy server would be better, but at the moment I haven't got the time to set one up etc. This setup worked fine: Modem[ppp0
