Win 2000 client thrashes network when printing to samba printer
Hello all, To start off with, I will admit to being very much a samba newbie. Having said that, I set out on Friday to set up what I thought to be a very simple task. I wanted to share a HP inkjet printer off of an old laptop. I spent quite a bit of time on it and finally friday evening, I was able to get things working (I thought). Finally, test pages from all the clients printed

Win 2000 Prof in workgroup with samba 2.2.2
Hi folks, this is the problem: we have several Win2000 PRO SP2 working in workgroup (not joining the domain) with a unique local user. The server Samba acts with security = user, with no encrypted password and keeps the username/password of people who want to connect to it. People log on the W2000 with the same username/password kept into samba server but when we map a network drive, the samba

Printing to Samba 2.0.7 from Windows 2000
Hi, I've recently installed LPRng 3.6.22, ifhp 3.3.19, and Samba 2.0.7 on my FreeBSD 4.1 system. Printing works fine from the FreeBSD machine, and I am able to access shares via my Win2000 machine. I've configured a [printers] section in smb.conf, and I am able to see the LaserJet 2100 when browsing, but on installing it I am unable to print to it. I get en error connecting the printer

some upper case letters with accent don't appear in file names
I have a backup server (Linux Debian 3.1) that connects to several Windows 2000 and 2003 servers shares with smbmount 3.0.14a. This is how I mount the shares: smbmount "\\\\win2000\\inetpubd" /mnt/win2000/ -o username=backups, password=mypwd If I list items with accents, this is a sample of how they appear on the mounted share: drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 4096 2005-12-01 16:45 D?but de

server response does not appear to correspond to request
Here is a second, somewhat related question to my last one. When looking over the network trace I have ran into something I cannot explain. It may be quite proper, in which case I am misreading the trace. But I would appreciate it if someone would explain this to me. In packet 109 of the trace (during a login with no profile on the server), I see a "NT Create AndX request"

Alternative way of installing Windows printer drivers on a Samba 3.0 server
Base: Red Hat RHAS3, PDC security = user Samba 3.0.14a Cups 1.1.17 Windows XP Pro Epson C42UX (cheap inkjet) USB to the server I was looking for an alternative to the immensely complicated Add Printer Wizard procedure (APW) detailed in chapter 19.6 of the Samba HOWTO guide. The following is a method that works for me, I don't necessarily expect it to work for others, and I'd value any

Os X and Win clients to SMB 3.0.10 server - how to hide ._ files from win clients only
Hello group, I am working on a test installation of Samba 3.0.10 on FreeBSD 5.3 as potential solution to some of our current file server problems. One of the main ones being good 'ole Win2000 Services for Macintosh - which we would like to dump completely. Here's the situation. We have a handful of Mac machines, all recently taken to 10.3.7 (10.3.8 upgrade is pending) which currently

I can log in fine and browse the shares using Win98 clients.Using smbclient locally I can do all the things listed below fine. Basically I can create a file/directory and I can open an existing file and append data to it. But if I try to rename, delete or even copy it on to the local

Windows 2000 user profiles and Samba PDC
Although I've been using Samba with Linux and Windows 9x for some time, now I need to deal with integrating Windows 2000 workstations into the mix and I'm having a lot of aggravation with user profiles. I don't know if this trouble is specific to Samba or whether it's another "This behavior is by design" "feature" of Win2000. Windows 2000 has no apparent

Windows XP and 7 work fine though. The problem occurs at three W2k test clients I tried with. The default behavior of Windows clients is to use the update type
