Slow performance with Win95 client
Hi I am new to this list, but I have been having problems with samba for some time now. Here is the problem When my Win95 clients access the samba server I get real slow transfers, even if I only have one client accessing the server. It transfers at like 70k/s to 150k/s, and the collision lights on the hub start going crazy. even for 10 megabit networking, this is rather slow. (it takes like 3

Slow printing problem
I have a small network running Slackware 9.0 and Samba 2.2.8a server. This was a replacement for a single Winnt 4.0 server. I have configured a single printer on the system (the printer is a HP Officejet) and am printing to it via the lpt0 port. Printing works fine, however on the older machines on the network (both Winnt Workstation and Win95/98 pc's) it takes a very long time to spool and

Entropia distributed computing client won't install
Hi, Because our institute is planning a distributed-computing project in cooperation with the Entropia software, and I do not like the idea of excluding all Linux users from the project, I tried to get the Entropia software running using a recent version of wine (Wine release 20010305), which I compiled & installed on a SuSE Linux 6.4 machine (glibc 2.1.3, kernel 2.2.14) (the entropia

XP client printing junk to printers installed using print$ share
Hi all, I have installed samba server and pritners. Instead having to put drivers to all clients, I decided to use the print$ share, so that, as I read, I can also make use of printing accounting. I did all the requird steps to install the pritner on my FC4 system, put all the required driver files to the print$ share, added the driver files to samba (npcclient adddriver) , verified samba can

Win95/98 login
I know this one has probably been discussed to death, but the search engines are down. I have a user on a Win95/8 machine with a userid lets say user1. They have an account on a samba server with a different user id, say user2. the user has no ability to modify account id's and both are required, user1 attaches to a bunch of MS related junk which can't be removed. the id, user2, is

postscript printing on W95 client
Hi there, If the printer is connected to a W95 box the following information may help. 1) read the shell script '/usr/local/samba/smbprint', it provides info on how to setup the configuration files 2) install ghostscript, portable bitmap utils etc 3) install 'Magicfilter', it may need all of '2)' 4) modify the (last) lines in 'smbprint' to something like: (

Slow Copy WinXX - Linux/Samba :-(
I never thought it would happen to me, but it did... I have read threads about slow copies from WinXX to Linux/Samba on the list in the past, but I don't recall a concise answer regarding what the cause was. THE PROBLEM: Trying to copy an 8 meg file from Win95 to my Linux/Samba box (named "Nemesis" - for good reason), the transfer speed slows to a crawl. The Win95 copy dialog box

Win 2000 client thrashes network when printing to samba printer
Hello all, To start off with, I will admit to being very much a samba newbie. Having said that, I set out on Friday to set up what I thought to be a very simple task. I wanted to share a HP inkjet printer off of an old laptop. I spent quite a bit of time on it and finally friday evening, I was able to get things working (I thought). Finally, test pages from all the clients printed

german umlaute win95 client vs. Linux-Samba file server
Hello, I've a problem known especially to german speaking users (and other nationalities using special characters). I'm using Samba 1.9.18 and a linux 2.0.35 kernel I want to create a directory or file with a name containing german umlaute from the win95 client so that I can see it on the linux machine with the equal characters I've used under win95. On the win95 machine the new

16Bit Progs via Win95 client
I've run into a problem and would like to know if anyone else has experienced it. I'm trying to install and run an old 16 Bit Win$ Application on our LAN. - Install and run on Win95 works ok. - Install on a Novell 3.12 Server and run on a Win95 client works ok. - Install on a Samba 2.0.0 / SUSE 5.3 Server and run on the Win95 client gets me strange results. (Can be reproduced) Win95

However I am trying to print to a win95 machine with user level security.

Workstations on both subnets share their printers from win95. Win95 machines from both sides of the subnet can telnet to both ethernet cards on the server and can also ping all machines across the two

Samba and Win95 printing problem
I am having some problems setting up the printing for samba and was wondering if anyone has any ideas. Samba 1.9.16p11 is running on a SparcStation 20 running SunOS4.1.3_u1. Accessing the shares, like [homes], is successful. When attempting to connect to a printer using Win95 with Service Pack 1, an error occurs. The printer share name, host name, and printcap name are all the same and exactly

Printing on a Window Client from AIX
Hi all... First, thank you to Matt Chapman for pointing out why I could not connect to a non-domain participating machine. I needed to have a local account on that machine (it wasn't checking back with the domain controllers as I thought it would). I guess I'm going to have to start venturing out of the UNIX world and into the NT one. Scary :-) Either way, I now successfully am
