Multiple workgroups : Multiple Subnets
I am still trying to make samba work over a WAN with multiple workgroups
although I am just about to throw in the towel. I had hoped to find a solution
that would permit a Windows PC to browse a (MS) workgroup (ie retrieve the
browse list from the workgroup master browser for a remote (MS) workgroup when
that MB is NOT a samba server). Since WINS only provides the broadcast
address of the remote

Cross-subnet, multiple workgroups
The samba configuration on the local LAN works great but, I am trying to set
up samba to permit browsing of two workgroups on different subnets and
getting very close but not quite the results I want. Remote shares can be
mapped to a local drive using "net use * \\remotehost\remoteshare" but in
windows explorer the remote workgroup is not browsable : there is a "computer

samba as client, adding to browse list
Well, I've poked around the documentation without any success...
I've got several samba servers running, but I've never been required to deal
with Samba as a client on a workstation until now. The workstation is RH
7.2, Samba-common 2.2.1a and it's on a LAN with a 2.2.0 server and a pile of
winXX workstations (no NT). KDE is the X environment.
I needed to get linpopup going to

AutoCAD temp file error
I rather doubt this is a samba problem, but perhaps someone can offer a
hint to solve the issue...
Running AutoDesk Land Development Desktop (AutoCAD with add-ons
essentially). The project data files are on the Samba server. A dozen
WinXX workstations work flawlessly with this configuration (other than
typical windows issues). A win2k workstation was recently added to the
mix and it works

Browsing workgroups on remote subnets
Is this stretching the limits of what Samba was designed to do?
I have set up a VPN with 2 LANs (I'll call them EastLAN and
WestLAN) interconnected through the internet. On EastLAN there is a samba
server configured to be the domain master browser as well as the WINS server.
PCs connected to this LAN are Win9X and are all in the workgroup EAST. On the
WestLAN there is a samba server

2.2 release imminent.
Well, as Andrew shouted at me again this weekend it's getting
to be about that time.... :-) :-).
Yep, we're thinking we should do an official 2.2 Samba release
early next week, so if you have anything you can't live
with, now would be a good time to tell us....
:-).
It's been gestating longer than an elephant, so it's really
time to let it out into the world and do its own

Problem selecting installation drive : 5.2
When doing the 5.2 installation the ONLY drive option provided is
mapper/nvidia_cbjcdhfe (250G)
My system has 2 SATA - 250G drives and I want to use them in a RAID/LVM
configuration.
My question:
How do I get the installer to let me use DiskDruid to create RAID1 arrays and
then use LVM for the mount points?
What I've done so far:
I've verified that both drives are recognized by

Samba and WINS
Current situation:
a) lots of Windows NT 4.0 workstation clients
b) quite a few Samba 1.9.18p10 servers running on Suns
c) 1 Samba server running as WINS server
d) NO Windows Servers
e) 1:1 correspondance between Netbios names and DNS names
f) DHCP currently tells the Windows machines the WINS server.
Problem:
If WINS server goes down, every Windows NT workstation can not mount anything

Static WINS entries
Is it possible to manually add entries to the WINS database on a Samba nmbd running as a WINS server?
Alternativily could I get the WINS nmbd to use DNS for hostsnames it can't resolve using it's own database.
I have several NT servers that seem to just vanish from the db after a while. One of my 2.2.3a boxes also did this for a pastime. Whilst I can do nbtstat -RR on NT or restart

Win2k, Domain logon, permissions
I first asked this question at the end of October, got a response which
didn't solve the problem, and have finally got back to the issue now.
I'm running 2.2.7a, recently upgraded from 2.2.0 as Domain Logons for
Win2K were suspected to be part of my problem. Anyway, the issue
relates to AutoCAD (actually a vertical product called Land3) and a
command which works with winXX boxes, but

subnet browsing
we have samba [mostly] working in a VPN application connecting two Mandrake
subnets using SSH.
if all machines define the same workgroup name, and we define a single
domain master browser, (with the other subnet defined as a preferred,
local, master browser,) and a single WINS server, after a little while, all
shares are visible to all WIN9x machines. this samba stuff is fantastic!

cross-subnet browsing problems
I'm trying to set up cross-subnet browsing using Samba on a Linux box
and a Sparc UltraEnterprise with Win95 and NT Workstation clients. I'm
using the Sparc as the domain master and also as the WINS server on the
108 subnet. The Linux box is the local master on the 46 subnet. Both
are running Samba 1.9.17alpha4. I can see the conversation between the
two samba servers and the browse

causing LMB elections
I've been running samba servers with 200+ W98 machines for
some time. I'm changing to W2k and everything was going fine.
I've upgraded 40 boxes. One W2k box has started announcing itself
as a local master browser for one of the workgroups. A samba
server thinks it is master, forcing election. Samba will stop
being the LMB for about 3 minutes and then will re-establish
itself as

Netbios over more then one protocol
Hi,
i'm reading:
samba-3.0.20a/docs/htmldocs/Samba3-HOWTO/NetworkBrowsing.html#id2564441
... The election process is /fought out, so to speak/ over every NetBIOS
network interface. In the case of a Windows 9x/Me machine that has both
TCP/IP and IPX installed and has NetBIOS enabled over both protocols,
the election will be decided over both protocols. As often happens, if

Re: samba and shares
Thanks, but in /etc/fstab I have username/password as options so I don't
have to type all that everytime ;)
What is weird about this situation (and what no one has addressed) is
why gnomba (gtk frontend for samba) will mount these shares fine but I
cannot mount them from the command line. What does gnomba do that I am
not?

Cross Subnet Browsing.
hi,
I need a hand setting up cross subnet browsing. Does anyone have some
good news group postings, or a HOWTO?
I have 2 samba servers, and 2 subnets. Each servers sits on it's own
domain/workgroup. I think this should be much simpler than it is,
and perhaps I am just missing one or two settings.
Of the 2 servers: A, B I would like 'A' to do any serving or
