files on shared ntfs-disk in linux-pc are not accessible
Hi, I have spent the entire evening, trying to access a ntfs-drive in my linux-box from my WinXP-Notebook but I just can't get it to work (and it's 3:50 a.m. now!) I have put a 160GB harddisk into a linux box (LFS 5.1.1, console only) and mounted it: /dev/hdd1 /mnt/toffi ntfs ro,uid=christoph,gid=christoph,umask=022 0 0 To check wether the data on the disk is ok, I then put in a

These are some boot/rescue systems with ext3 support. The RIP boot/rescue system. This is a boot/rescue system, it comes in three versions. There's a bootable cd version that comes with kernel 2.4.6 and has IDE and SCSI support. rip-39.iso.bin 2528kb They can all be found here: http://www.tux.org/pub/people/kent-robotti/looplinux/rip/index.html There's more info at the above site.

LARGE FILE PROBLEMS
Hi I have a pb with large file on a RedHat 9/Reiseifs/Samba 3.0.1 server My linux server will be use for backup Oracle databases. There is files of 4 Gb but, when I connect to the Oracle 9i server I see files of 16 E. I have search in thousand threads in the forum, but it's still very confusing for me. - when doing ./configure samba indicate check for LFS -- yes - I connect to the win2k

adding overall constraint in optim()

adding overall constraint in optim()
Hi Michael, A few comments 1. To add the constraint sum(wgt.vect=1) you would use the method of Lagrange multipliers. What this means is that in addition to the w_i (the components of the weight variables) you would add an additional variable, call it lambda. Then you would modify your optim.fun() function to add the term lambda * (sum(wgt.vect - 1) 2. Are you sure that you have defined

How to create a Bootable Live CD/DVD from your Linux From Scratch (LFS) build
Subject of Hint: How to create a Bootable Live CD/DVD from your Linux From Scratch (LFS) build Good day from Singapore, I am Mr. Turritopsis Dohrnii Teo En Ming, based in Singapore. I have recently *successfully* created my own custom Linux distribution called Teo En Ming Linux 2020.03 (FINAL), which is based on Linux From Scratch 20200302-systemd book and Linux Kernel 5.5.7, on 12 March

Quadratic optimization problem
I hope that someone can help me with the following question: I would like to solve the Markowitz optimization problem WITH short-sale constraints. Maybe a procedure to solve a quadratic optimization problem with convex constraints and positive variables is already implemented in R? Thank you very much, edg -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- r-help

No space left on device on not full filesystem
Hello, We have running lustre 1.8.1 and have met "No space lest on device" error when uploading 500 Gb small files (less then 100 Kb each). The problem seems to depends on the number of files. If we remove one file, we can create one new file, even with Gb size; but if we haven''t remove something we can''t create even very little file, as an example using touch

Potential issue with noalias @malloc and @realloc
The corresponding line does not exist, and it is in fact, wrong :) C11 says nothing like that. C++14 says: "The lifetime of an object of type T begins when: — storage with the proper alignment and size for type T is obtained, and — if the object has non-trivial initialization, its initialization is complete. The lifetime of an object of type T ends when: — if T is a class type with a

Running out of memory
I'm working with large data frames and running out of memory. I hope some of you may be able to suggest a more efficient approach. I have grid/lattice data representing a time series of 1 m2 quadrats in a grassland: Each 1 cm2 cell or pixel contains one ecological state (ie grass or bare ground). The goal is to calculate, for each cell, the transition probabilities to all available

encrypted passwords: what negotiation with what client?
Hello man smb.conf encrypt passwords says: "This boolean controls whether encrypted passwords will be negotiated with the client. Note that Windows NT 4.0 SP3 and above and also Windows 98 will by default expect encrypted passwords unless a registry entry is changed." What does this mean? From my point of view it can mean 4 totally different things: 1) That when I run smbd with

James Nord's reply to Win2K and multiple Samba 2.07 servers
Hello again, Thanks James for your replies. In regards to the slow read/write, the software vendor is aware of the problem, at some stage they will buffer the read/write, but it won't happen overnight, the binary file is quite complicated. So there are no updates available for this particular issue and I don't expect any for a couple of months. The software in question can generate
