password server problem
We are using samba with a NT4.0 Primary Domain Controller as a samba password server. Logon validation on the primary domain controller works fine, the NT machine validates the user password. BUT: On the NT PDC the event log shows numerous entries saying: Unknown user or wrong password Did anybody experience this too ???? Rainer von Bongartz /D/I/L/ rainer.von-bongartz@dil.de

TEST 3 If you get a "connection refused" response then the smbd server may not be running. If you installed it in inetd.conf then you probably edited that file incorrectly. If you installed it as a daemon then check that it is running, and check that the netbios-ssn port is in a LISTEN state using "netstat -a". Note: You have xinetd not inetd on the redhat box. %{orig_user} missing in checkpassword-Script
Hi everybody, I'm using SSL client certificates or checkpassword scripts to authenticate our users. If a user sent a client certificate from his smartcard my checkpasswort will ignore the password, if he does not sent a client certificate but uses his OTP-token then my checkwassword script will check wether the password is a correct one time password. My problem is: the AUTH_USER variable

%{orig_user} missing in checkpassword-Script
Dear dovecot maintainers: I'm using SSL client certificates together with a checkpassword scripts to authenticate our users. My problem is: In the checkpassword script the AUTH_USER environment variable will either contain the username that was configured in the mailclient (if auth_ssl_username_from_cert=false) or the username from the certificate (if auth_ssl_username_from_cert=true). Recipient delimiter and lmtp proxying
Hi, I'm attempting to proxy lmtp using director to hash to the same backend as pop3/imap. My pop3/imap users are of the form: username and my lmtp users are of the form: <username at domain> Where domain is fairly redundant but does carry some useful information. Now, I can proxy lmtp using user=%{username} and destuser=%{orig_user}, and this all appears to work correctly.

destuser setting useless on LMTP proxy
I tried setting the "destuser" setting on the LMTP director as follows, to preserve the original envelope rcpt: protocol lmtp { auth_socket_path = director-userdb passdb { driver = ... override_fields = destuser=%{orig_user} } } The passdb driver would return the appropriate "user" for each alias. Suppose, for example, user1 has emails user1 at domain.tld,

v2.2.6 released
http://dovecot.org/releases/2.2/dovecot-2.2.6.tar.gz http://dovecot.org/releases/2.2/dovecot-2.2.6.tar.gz.sig I didn't have time to look into the latest reported dsync replication bugs, but this release should have been done a long time ago already and I'm busy for next few days, so no more waiting. Things seem to be working quite well in general though. * acl: If public/shared

Win98 zero-length encrypted passwords
All - Client: Win98, first version Server: Linux Mandrake, Samba 2.0.7 I'm trying to setup a Samba server to replace a customer's evil Windows 98 server, and have run into a problem. When used with encrypted passwords, it doesn't work. I tried all of the usual cures, and found that it worked perfectly if I enabled plaintext passwords in Win98. When I switched back to encrypted

macro subsitution inconsistancies
I'm having a problem with 1.9.18p7 (and I've checked the sources for 1.9.18p8 and the ntdom branch also, so I suspect the problem exists for those builds also). I want to have certain shares show up and configurations happen depending on the user name, so I've defined parameters in /etc/smb-confs/smb.conf.USERNAME, like so: /etc/smb-confs/smb.conf.abakun: [onlyabakun] blah =

fudging filename characters
There are a couple of bug reports on the Debian rsync package about problems with a recipient filesystem that can't cope with all possible unix filenames. Notably filenames with question marks are a problem... I guess that people are trying to backup systems to a SMB share which presumably is then regularly backupped to tape. This basically sounds like a reasonable thing to do :-) Would

Setting Separate File server from Samba PDC
I'm aim to set up a file server that is separate from my SAMBA PDC. I've had no problem setting file server up, and joining it to he domain using smbpasswd. Can I use winbind with a SAMBA PDC or is it meant only for Windows NT servers. When creating shares on this file server, I need to allow permissions to various groups and or users. How can I do this. Do I need to set up NIS? Thank
