when can we expect Prof Tierney's compiled R?
I am excited to learn that Prof. Tierney is bringing to us compiled R. I would like to learn when it will be available. This information will be useful in scheduling some of my projects. Thanks. new package error message
My coauthor made a new R package GeneLogit (100% R code) which installs ok on R 2.3 on Windows. But when I type library(GeneLogit) it gave the error message Error in library(GeneLogit) : 'GeneLogit' is not a valid package -- installed < 2.0.0? It runs on R 1.9.0 just fine. It seems that others have encountered same problem but no solution is found by googling How can I fix this

Samba + sssd deployment: success and failure
So, we have Samba file sharing working on CentOS 7.6 with sssd: [root at cns-srv-lnode2 samba]# cat /etc/redhat-release CentOS Linux release 7.6.1810 (Core) [root at cns-srv-lnode2 samba]# smbd --version Version 4.8.3 Some smb.conf configuration details: - security = user - an idmap entry is unnecessary - disable netbios = yes works fine - pretty sure nmbd is unnecessary

CTDB over WAN Link with LMASTER/RECMASTER Disabled
Hi, I came across the 'CTDB_CAPABILITY_LMASTER=no' and 'CTDB_CAPABILITY_RECMASTER=no' options in my quest to salvage a rather poorly performing CTDB cluster over Ceph(fs). Unfortunately, the docs provide not enough information for a clustering noop like myself. Would there be any benefit to disabling those options for a branch office node on a high-latency WAN connection?

Printing to samba server doesn't work
Well, not like it should. I can capture a printer with the "net use lpt1:" command, but I would really like to be able to print to any one of the three printers in my printcap. NT gives me the error: "The parameter is incorrect". I attached the error message screen below, in .png format. This worked for the last printer I had. All I changed was the printer and the

Is Puppet similar to Capistrano?
I discovered Capistrano while I was trying to figure out what I wanted. See attached notes. http://www.genunix.org/wiki/index.php/GNOSIS/Kraken Puppet seems promising. Thanks, Brian -- - Brian Gupta http://opensolaris.org/os/project/nycosug/

Samba + SSSD: confirmed working for Samba versions 4.7.6 and 4, 8.3
I thought I sent this, but didn't see it hit the list. Since this presented a considerable amount of frustration (requiring a netbios name seems illogical in an AD-only world), I'm sending it again. Apologies if this is a repost. -------- Forwarded Message -------- Subject: Samba + SSSD: confirmed working for Samba versions 4.7.6 and 4,8.3 Date: Tue, 18 Jun 2019 17:15:47 -0500 From:

Classful Queuing
OK, I''m stumped. I''ve read through most of the LARTC HOWTO and have yet to find a basis for what I need to accomplish. I have a Linux box that controls access to and from the Internet at my workplace. We have a number of remote employees that connect via PPTP and IPSEC to the office''s internal network. Some of these remote employees are currently using SIP phones.

Printing problem - Spooled files won't print
Hi, I have some trouble getting files printed on my Solaris 8 machine running Samba 2.0.5. The client is a winxp installed laptop, the printer is configured as a postscript printer (Minolta PagePro 12 PS), although it is a PCL printer (Minolta PagePro 6).
