Making TIMEOUT work?
I have problems getting the TIMEOUT value work the same way LILO/GRUB
does it.. ie it should wait until the timeout and then use the default
value. However, it goes straight for the default value without waiting
a single second (and a TIMEOUT value of 500 should mean 50 seconds,
as it counts in 1/10th of a second, right?)

Revised website logo
I suggest to change the website logo from
https://www.openssh.com/images/openssh.gif to a smaller PNG version
instead. You also save roughly 20k per image http request as well.
Revised version can be found here:

Undocumented Feature in Samba?
Just thought I'd share an experience with you regarding Samba, Win95/98
and encrypted passwords.
I set up a RH7 server for one of my clients who has 8 Win95 & 8 Win98
clients. I came across the problem with the 95 passwords in clear & 98
passwords encrypted so I dug around and read the README & FAQ.
I was going to use the registry hack on 98 to disable the encrption but

root fs mounts as ext2, others ext3
I have ext2 compiled in the kernel (so i can mount the initrd image), all other filesystems are modules. The initrd image contains aic7xxx, jbd, and ext3 modules.
/etc/mtab reports the filesystem mounted ext3
/proc/mounts reports it mounted ext2
/proc/filesystems lists ext3
If I umount other partitions that are ext3 the module becomes 'unused'.

Using system users/passwords to authenticate
Hey all,
I am somewhat new to Samba, but the documentation that came with the Samba 2.0 hints that authenticating Samba users using the system user/password files is possible. The following is a quote from the smb.conf web page as viewed using the SWAT configuration server:
"Step 1: If the client has passed a username/password pair and that username/password pair is validated by the UNIX

Windows95 client does not get list of domain users
I have a Slackware 8.1 with Samba 2.2.4 configured as PDC on my network.
I have a Windows95 client (OSR2, USB supplement) that can't get the list
of domain users for defining a share, I get the message:"You cannot view
the list of users at this time. Please again later"
Windows98 clients can get the list of users on the domain with no
problem, also WindowsNT workstations get the

Persistent locked files & Win95
I often find with Samba v2.0.3 that files accessed via Win95 (OSR2) stay
locked forever after exiting the application that used them.
I've got an application called Visual SlickEdit (VSE), which is installed
on a shared drive. The drive is an exported Samba share from my RedHat
v5.2 (kernel v2.2.5) server. Both the Win32 and OS/2 versions of VSE are
installed beneath the same subdirectory

Possible bug: 'all new dirptrs in use?'
Hi,
Two users on a network runing Samba 2.05a and Win95 OSR2
clients have a problem that occurs several times a month,
always near the end of the day. If they open a samba share,
it doesn't show any files. The logfile says:
[2000/01/10 18:03:06, 0] smbd/dir.c:dptr_create(453)
dptr_create: returned 0: Error - all new dirptrs in use ?
Apparently bitmap_find() (dir.c, line 450) wraps around

User list problem on Win9x.
I'm a bit confused about user enumeration on Win9x boxes.
I've got a couple of machines running SaMBa. One (M2Dual) is
running 2.0.7 with security = domain and domain server = M2Hub.
The other (M2Hub) is running 2.2.3a with security = user.
I also have three Win9x machines. All have user level security
turned on. Roving profiles work on all machines and all users.

Connecting from W95 to Samba Share
Hello group;
This is a question that has been posted before, but I haven't found an
answer in the archives or in the FAQ/docs. I've been thru the DIAGNOSIS.txt,
and get stuck on net view \\machname from a W95 OSR2 box (error 53 ...).
Setup: Solaris machine running Samba 2.0.0. I can use smbclient to connect
to it from various HP, AIX, Solaris, and Linux boxes, and NT 4.0 clients

oplock_break failed
Hi,
I am running Samba 2.0.3 on Linux Kernel 2.2.5 (SuSE 6.1) in a test
environment with a Win NT server (PDC), the Linux box taking over step by
step the file- and printserver tasks, and Win 95 clients. Samba is setup
with security=domain at this stage.
It just happened again what I have seen only a few times before. When I use
Outlook 98 on the Win95 machine and want to access the

Mapping of Network Drive through win9x dail-up networking
Hi Thomas,
Really Thanks for your advice. I have tried your suggestions but problems still
remain. My findings is that some Windows, regardless of version, can map to
Samba through dial-up networking but some just cannot. I try to find the
difference between these Windows but failed.
Regards,
Neil

YUM and Tripwaire
I am looking for a location where I can get tripwire to install and update via
YUM. I know this is not the most secure thing but with the amount of machines
that I have, I have not other choice. So far I have found

Does anyone know one for CentOS?
Thanks

OpenGroupware.Org
Hi all!
I'm thinking on installing OGO on CentOS 4. I've been to
download.opengroupware.org but I didn't find any CentOS/RHEL 4 specific
rpm packages. I'm wondering, since RHEL4/CentOS4 is based on Fedora Core
3, can I use these packages safely? Has anyone ever tried installing OGO
on CentOS 4? Has anyone ever used ogoall-...rpm ?
Thankx in advance.
Best regards,
Pedro
