smbclient can't connect to NT workstation "C$" share
Greetings all, I'm trying to connect to the default shares Windows NT workstation enables for "administration" purposes but I'm not having any luck. smbclient can see the shares: [esisler@shaun esisler]$ smbclient -L ghost added interface ip=198.243.2.206 bcast=198.243.2.255 nmask=255.255.255.0 Got a positive name query response from 198.243.2.200 ( 198.243.2.150 ) Password:

High oplock break fail count
Hi all, we've just recently switched to a new file server upgrading to samba 2.0.3. Unfortunately I've noticed that a couple of times a day a smbd process dies with 'oplock break failed' so I actually had to turn off oplocks thus degrading performance drastically. Does anybody have any idea why oplock breaks are failing so often now? Cheers, --- Martin Hoffesommer Soft

Remote backups of Unix machines
My boss asked me to investigate a free (as in no cost) solution that would allow us to archive our AIX server onto the 12 gig tape drive sitting on our Linux server. I tried doing an SMB share with valid user set to root, but this apparently loses the permissions that the AIX box uses (everything is owned root/root), making it rather useless for backup and restore. Can SMB do what I need, or

Unsupported Printers - just "sticks" in the lpd queue ;(
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello: I've configured a Linux box with Samba to act as a secondary domain controller for an existing NT server. I've gotten everything working very nicely, all my file shares set up, etc. I've got 6 printers that I need to set up as print shares. The ones that speak Postscript or PCL were very easy to set up, and work admirably.

"No account in domain" error when upgrading to Samba-3 & moving to a new server
Greetings all, I'm attempting to move a Samba-2 PDC to a new server and upgrade it to Samba-3. I'm seeing the error message "get_md4pw: Workstation WS1$: no account in domain". I have read the instructions at: http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/upgrades.html The new server and a test workstation (WS1) are on a separate network to avoid interference with the live

netlogon error?
Greetings all, I'm running a RedHat 5.0 (kernel 2.0.32) Linux box with samba 1.9.18p7 and I'm having a problem with my netlogon share. NT domain logons are working just fine, but I keep getting the following message in /var/log/messages, repeated every day for every user logging in: May 26 09:08:09 gromit PAM_pwdb[23002]: 1 authentication failure; (uid=0) -> [username] for samba

Win'95 printer lock-ups & filters
Greetings all, I hope this is appropriate for this list, if not I'll take it somewhere else. ;-) Printer lock-ups: I have some printer shares available on my Samba server (RedHat Linux kernel 2.0.32, Samba 1.9.18p3) and they are working just fine in most cases, but from time to time the Win '95 client will either lock up while printing or send a print job samba & lpd don't like

JetDirect
Hi, WOW, this was posted over a year ago! A response now. The problem still exists. As reconfirmed in a post i read not to long ago (within the last 2 weeks?). HP jetdirect cards can only do one thing at a time. (HP has been writing Jetdirect firmware for 5 years, PLEASE HP you _MUST_ have the ability to fix it?! Or don't you??) This can be confirmed if you have an NT only shop. In the

Forced file locking - thanks
Greetings all, I apologize for the lateness of this reply. I've been having (and still am) problems with my local telco. I'm lucky to connect at 9600 at this point and even then it's not exactly an error-free transmission. <sigh> I wanted to thank those who offered advice & suggestions concerning my file locking problem. I have tried every combination of oplocks, strict

Remote announcing - Help!
I have a Samba 1.9.18p8 server running fine on a particular network: >From smb.conf: interfaces = 138.120.247.0/24 ..and all works well with PC's on that network accessing the Samba server. Now for the tricky part. I want to move all of my computers to a new Class C network: 192.168.164.0 I have the router setup with DNS working, etc. I migrated one machine over to that network.

Bundle Install failing on deployment
Hi, I have upgraded an app to 3.1.0.rc5 and everything is fine locally. When I try to deploy with capistrano, bundle install fails with the following output: ** [out :: westminster-agency.co.uk] Fetching source index for http://rubygems.org/ ** [out :: westminster-agency.co.uk] which: no sudo in (/usr/local/ sbin:/usr/local/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin) ** [out ::

Variance-covariance matrix for beta hat and b hat from lme
Dear all, Given a LME model (following the notation of Pinheiro and Bates 2000) y_i = X_i*beta + Z_i*b_i + e_i, is it possible to extract the variance-covariance matrix for the estimated beta_i hat and b_i hat from the lme fitted object? The reason for needing this is because I want to have interval prediction on the predicted values (at level = 0:1). The "predict.lme" seems to

The mystery of the vanishing print job
I suppose I should start by saying that the system is running a fresh installation of RedHat 6.0, and I've done so little that I'm amazed that I've managed to do something wrong ;) I have a genuine article postscript printer (an old QMS PS-410 for what it's worth) connected to lp0 and setup as "lp" such that when I type "lpr somefile" somefile is printed out. Supply linear constrain to optimizer
Dear R and S users, I've been working on fitting finite mixture of negative exponential distributions using maximum likelihood based on the example given in MASS. So far I had much success in fitting two components. The problem started when I tried to extend the procedure to fit three components. More specifically, likelihood = sum( ln(c1*exp(-x/lambda1)/lambda1 + c2*exp(-x/lambda2)/lambda2

Printer errors
Hello all, Got SAMBA running on a linux 2.0.32 box, and all is well. Looked over the docs and set up my printer with the (what I think) are correct entries. Basically, what the default smb.conf has. Testparms says it o.k.! And I can print (lpr) locally. Windows sees both printcap entries (inkjet and psjet), but any attempt to pring to them errors out. I then added the print command =

Time Synchronisation
Hi. I'm running on a Windows 98 client and an RS6000 with Samba 2.0.7 (latest). I've used "net time \\ibrissde /SET /YES" to sync the times between the two systems ... but if I save a file onto the RS6000 through Samba on a mapped drive the file in UNIX is 1 hour old. I haven't been able to find any help on this so I'm assuming it's a bug !? This was also true

Asterisk, Hylafax and T38Modem - help!
Hi All, I know that this may not strictly be an asterisk issue, but if anyone has any ideas on this prob it would be appreciated. I have a working asterisk setup using Suse 9.1, a BT ISDN BRI card (Fritz?), sipura 3000 and a few cisco 7940's. I wanted to do add faxing into the equation, so I thought I would try and setup the following: PSTN->asterisk->hylafax->pc At the moment

* and Fax
Hi, I think this is one area that needs to be developed. I am curently implementing a system for my home so cannot really justify the cost of financially supporting the development of this when all I really need to do is buy a telephone extension lead for my existing fax modem!!! I am more than willing to devote some testing/documentation time (I am not really a programmer) if that helps.
