LPRng question
<It seems that the print command is trying to find the printer at location 'localhost'. Since this is a network printer it is not at localhost is it?> Yeah, the error messages made no sense to me either! Well, like I said earlier: < The IP address of this printer is 10.1.1.192. I call this printer nero, and have it listed in my /etc/hosts file> Here is a copy of part of my

Printing to Samba 2.0.7 from Windows 2000
Hi, I've recently installed LPRng 3.6.22, ifhp 3.3.19, and Samba 2.0.7 on my FreeBSD 4.1 system. Printing works fine from the FreeBSD machine, and I am able to access shares via my Win2000 machine. I've configured a [printers] section in smb.conf, and I am able to see the LaserJet 2100 when browsing, but on installing it I am unable to print to it. I get en error connecting the printer

Slow Samba Printer initialisation, status, and printing
OK, I have been wrestling with this for two weeks now, so somebody please help ! We have an existing Samba Print Server, running RedHat linux, kernel 2.2.19, that runs fine, but is a P133 with 64 mb ram. So we built a new PC, the slowest thing we could buy, a duron 1 ghz with 512 mb RAM. Old printer server is running Samba 2.2.5, new printer server is running samba 2.2.5, and Slackware 8.1,

Bidirectional printers, LPRng, and Samba...
Does anyone have any hints or suggestions on getting some JetDirect-based printers set up for bidirectional printing in Samba? We're using LPRng 3.8.0, ifhp 3.4.7, and samba 2.2.2 From the LPRng standpoint, the printers seem to be set up for bidirectional communication fine.. but how do we get Samba to allow bidirectional communication? Thanks in advance! Glenn --- Glenn E. Sieb,

Anyone successfully using a HP 8000 DN (with JetDirect module and IP) with samba?
Anyone successfully using a HP 8000 DN or HP 5 Lsi (with JetDirect module and assigned IP) with samba? Subject says it all. If you're successfully doing this, what configs made it work? FAQs tell how to set up with a print server, but what if the printer itself is the server? Trust me, the HP doesn't know jack about port 139. Using samba 2.0.4 on Solaris 7 and NT 4.0 SP5 with

Bug with FLAC raw encoding
I found a bug with FLAC v0.6 raw encoding. It appears that the file pointer in the source file is not reset after seeking to the end for checking the size. I've attached a patch. I'm excited about FLAC!! I've been looking for a good GPL lossless RAW audio compressor for use with sound fonts. Sound font files contain 16 bit samples that are word aligned, so just treating it as raw

guest account/config file/encrypt passwd problem
Hello, got a smb question. I used to run 2.0 and it worked fine. I had normal users and then a guest user with NULL PASSWD. I switched to 2.2 and I try to set up the same thing but I can't manage to get them both working simultaneously. I can have either one working just fine. I narrowed it down to encrypt passwords = (yes/no). I try to override the general user settings by a config file

Samba & LPRng: Printer Status in Windows
I know this question has been answered here a while back, but I have not been able to find the mailing with the posts on it. -----==========----- I have a redhat server that I am using as a file/print server for student use. I am using samba to help the users with Windows. The problem I have is that when using printing a user can submit a print job, and it prints fine, but cannot see the

79.00FE error on HP8150DN
For some reason, our HP8150DN printers hang with this error and require power-cycling after a user tries to print any job from Windows2000 or NT (including a test page). The Samba server is running 2.2.5 on a Solaris 2.6 box using Sun's printing system. It forwards all jobs to another Solaris machine that runs LPRng-3.8.2 and ifhp-3.5.1. I am able to install and use all of our printers

Manual Printer Driver Installations
Hey, I posted a few days ago about how the printer paper sizes are differ from the admin account when they are installed. People at my work are getting pissed at the moment and all they want to do is to be able to change the paper sizes themselves and not have it done at the server Is there a way to do it? I fluked it at one stage and had it working like that, I think I deleted the driver

Printing troubles.
Hi, I've recently set up LPRng on my system in preparation for moving my organisation to a Samba/Linux based printing solution. I have a test printer properly set up, and issuing lpr commands from the command line works fine. I also have Samba set up with domain security and all the file sharing is also working OK. Whenever I try to print a test page to my Samba shared printer, I get the

/etc/printcap for samba-shared printer...
Morning... Just spent this evening getting printing setup off my FreeBSD machine (oh, how I love Solaris at these times *groan*)...got it now so that I can print directly from Netscape, color and graphics and all. The printer is an HP 560c. Now, I want to be able to print from my Windoze95 machine, and have samba setup for that, as well as file sharing. If I setup my Windoze machine such

printing = lprng working?
Hi I updated samba today to 3.0.5. Printing stopped working. The log says: [2004/08/02 14:28:57, 0] printing/print_cups.c:cups_printer_fn(108) Unable to connect to CUPS server localhost - Verbindungsaufbau abgelehnt I'm using lprng not cups. Is samba ignoring printing = lprng? I tested lpr it still works as usual. Is there anything else I should check? Thanks. Best, Hans

IP printing
You might want to look into ifhp/LPRng. It speaks to jet-direct printers. The whole combo of samba lprng and ifhp works well. Printer errors
Hello all, Got SAMBA running on a linux 2.0.32 box, and all is well. Looked over the docs and set up my printer with the (what I think) are correct entries. Basically, what the default smb.conf has. Testparms says it o.k.! And I can print (lpr) locally. Windows sees both printcap entries (inkjet and psjet), but any attempt to pring to them errors out. I then added the print command =

Problems using samba as a print server
Hi, I set up Samaba 2.2.7 on a RedHat 9 box to act as a print server. The Samba server is a member of the domain and will be sharing about a dozen printers. I am using lprng in conjunction with ifhp in order to do charge-back print accounting. But here's the glitch: the server is not hosting any file shares and basically has only a couple of local accounts. The result is that when domain

HP4MP
Well I've tried everything that was suggested with my printer (HP4MP, That has a postscript interpiter). Including installing lprng, and ifhp, and no go.. If I just print from linux, (lpr -P filename.ps) it prints beautifully. If I print with the filters, I will either get just the Win98 Print test logo then some junk, or I get a stack overflow error Illegal Character @@ .. If I get rid of

Printer queue problem (LPRng 3.4.2, Samba 1.9.18p4, Solaris 2.5.1/2.6)
I've been having a problem with Win95 clients watching a printer queue on the Samba server (called labserv2). labserv2 is a Solaris 2.5.1 machine running samba 1.9.18p4. The printing system is LPRng 3.4.2. A user can watch the printer queue from a Win95 client machine. However, when the printer queue gets backed up (usually about 12 jobs), the queue window locks.
