test suite
Hi Ralph,
could you please set up a area at xiph.org, where you mirror some of
the test sequences, just to be shure that everybody talks about the
same sequence ?
The license issues are not too important, I think if we should be
allowed to use 'free for non-commercial use' sequences for our tests.
Perhaps it's a good idea to seperate things in 'free', 'free for test

deafening silence
I haven't seen too much feedback since the 0.9 release, which
probably means one of three things:
1. it works perfectly and nobody has any complaints!
2. nobody is using 0.9.
3. the list is having problems.
I mention #3 because at least one person has been blocked by
sourceforge's new filter.
Anyone...anyone?

Samba4 - Corrupted group caused stop of replication - "Object class violation"
Hi Andrew,
Thanks for your reply.
We tried successfully the
--full-sync option from first to second DC. Unfortunately, afterwards
the second DC was still in a corrupted state. The "Deleted Objects"
still contained the ugly groups with the missing attribute...
So we
achieved to get a successfull replication after editing the "deleted
objects" with ldbedit. We have deleted

smbclient porting to Handheld device
Dear Andrew Tridgell and Samba Team,
You have done a wonderful job in providing an
excellent
piece of software. I am interested in porting
smbclient to Handheld device, mostly as a hobby.
Please see my website http://vieka.com/.
Because some of the Handheld OSs don't have the
ability to access Windows share resource,
specifically, the new Pocket PC by Microsoft, I would
like to add this

I do not think this is a useless discussion; we are just trying

Nfs vs Samba
I need to make file sharing in my network, the file
server sharing have to be in a machine that can be
seen from outside. In the begining I wanted to use
Samba but now I'm not sure which would be secure and
fast, if NFS protocol or Samba.

Well I consider the search filter by subject is a much better approach,

FLAC 0.8 released
FLAC 0.8 is out. This version has gone through and passed the new
(larger) test suite, so I'm much more confident in the encoder and
decoder for all kinds of input. FLAC is much closer to an official
version now.
There are also some new features: I have added two metadata blocks:
1) a PADDING block, and 2) an APPLICATION block so third-party
app developers can register for an ID and write

if your talking id3v1, something along the lines of (in bash):
for f in *.flac ; do tail -c 128 $f > tag && flac-0.8 -d $f
${f%*.flac}.wav && flac-0.9 -V ${f%*.flac}.wav $f && cat tag >> $f ;
done
should work. of course, test it before you set it loose on your
whole collection.
if you're on windows, my condolences... no wait, just get cygwin :)

new SEEKTABLE block
I've checked in code that supports a new metadata block called
SEEKTABLE. Basically, it is an optional, arbitrarily-long list
of seek points, by sample number and stream offset. I also added
command-line options to flac so you can specify seek points by
specific sample number and/or a specific number of evenly-spaced
seek points. The table cost about 18 bytes per seek point.
This seems to

I'm not aware of any official maintainers but supposedly
the gstreamer guys (http://gstreamer.sf.net) have a spec
file for it. I am going to look into it in the next
couple of days but when 1.0 comes out I'm sure RPMs will
pop up pretty quickly.
