AIX 4.32 install (PLEASE HELP)
I've been having problems installing Samba on AIX 4.32. I have spent well over two weeks on the issue and have not had any major success. I can get samba 1.9 series of source code and binaries to work fine but the new Samba 2.0 series code is causing me problems. I have the following system and problem. I have a H50 with 2 NICs; one is ether and the other is token. I can't seem to browse

samba crashing on startup
hi,
i've been trying for like two weeks to figure out why samba doesn't run
properly. from the logs it looks like smbd will start followed by nmbd.
then nmbd will exit for no apparent reason. i'm able to start samba
manually with the command '/etc/init.d/samba start'. right now i'm
assuming nmbd is the reason why samba doesn't load. i'm running samba

samba goes down only on startup - tried solving myself
hi,
samba will work normally if i issue the command '/etc/init.d/samba
start', but as for starting up properly at boot time, it will go down
when booted as the end of log.nmbd shows. as far as i'm able to read the
logs, there is nothing suspicious happening.
why is this occurring and how do i fix it. i'm running samba version

Smbclient fails to connect
Hi,
I've recently upgrade to Samba 1.9.17p1 from 1.9.16p11 (for Solaris 2.5), but
have now found that smbclient fails to connect to user shares on win95
machines. I've tried the same login account from a win95 account and am able
to mount shares from other win 95 machines. I've also tried running the old
smbclient binary with the new smbd & nmbd daemons, and that lets me log

nmbd Problem
Hello,
I am using samba 2.0.4b on Linux 2.0.36.
Since I changed some of the parameters in my smb.conf I have a very strange
Problem. Everytime my Samba-Box wins the browselist election process two
nmbds are started and my WinXX-Clients do not get access to samba (I could
see the server but not access the shares nor login to the domain).
smbclient -L server from server works fine. From another

Browsing
I am configuring Linux (2.0.33) as a local router. I am wanting to use
Samba (1.9.18p3) to "manage" the browse lists on my network so that
computers on each subnet can browse resources on the other subnets. My
local network consists of Win95 and NT40 workstations with NT40 servers.
My test configuration consists one token ring segment on one side of
the Samba box (network .192) and

samba, RedHat and Windows XP Home
Howdy. I'm running samba-3.0.2-2 (from the binaries on samba.org) on a
RedHat 9 box with kernel 2.4.20-28.9.
I can access shares from my Windows XP Home box, but the performance
isn't very good. When I looked into this, I discovered that apparently
the connections are getting dropped, over and over again, which causes a
lot more work, I'm sure. Here's a snippet from my main

I am so frustrated - Samba ports not opening and no error message
Okay - I've been plugging away and it got to the point that running
smbclient was returning information about an Alfresco install that I
never used, so I went ahead and deleted everything I could find on my
machine that said "alfresco". I then removed samba using apt-get from
the machine by typing
apt-get remove --purge samba
I deleted the /etc/samba directory and re-installed

Problem connecting to Samba server
Hi
Clients cannot connect to the Samba server (Version 3.0.25b OpenBSD/amd64), first attempt gives Access denied, second attempt gives The network name request is no longer available.
Can someone please help in finding out what is wrong? I've been going through the logs and configuration the past week, but can't seem to find out what's the issue. Any pointers would be appreciated.

Samba BDC in the same subnet not getting connection requests
Hi,
I have a Samba 3 PDC running with around 20 Windows XP/2K clients. The
PDC and the clients are in different subnets. I recently decided to add
a Samba 3 BDC in the same subnet as the clients, to give some failover
and also to reduce across-switch traffic.
After creating the BDC, I restarted one of the clients but don't see it
establishing connection with the BDC, instead it connects as

Nmbd errors & not starting since upgrade to 3.0.2a?
I have recently upgraded my Redhat 7.3 server to Fedora FC1 with all related updates. I also upgraded my samba version from 3.0.0 to 3.0.2a. It now seems that my nmbd daemon will not start & subsequently I cannot log in from any Windows client as the netbios server name PDC is not found I think. Before this problem started, I noticed that in order for my DNS ping requests from Windows clients

Question...
It's me again.
I really appreciate all the help you people have given me. It's helped
out alot!
Here is my question: Why when I add a valid users list to my smb.conf
files (because I run samba on multiple servers) does it make the network
neighbourhood not work for the samba work group? I get:
The computer or sharename, could not be found. Make sure you
typed it correctly, and

Probably a bug in samba audit
Hi.
I got this email-address from BUGS.txt file of the samba distribution.
I read it carefully.
I got configured and working samba, I work with samba above one year.
I still have a problem, and, according to the samba log output, I think
it's probably a bug.
When I try to use the shares with audit support, I have my Far

Error joining domain: tstream_npa_connect_recv to /run/samba/ncalrpc/np for pipe lsarpc
Hi guys
I have setup a NT4 Domain, using Freeipa as a ipasam backend...
Normal user authentication and shares seems to work, but i'm getting an error when trying to join a Windows 7 machine to the domain (see below)...
To me it seems to be the same error as here: https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11245....
Does anyone know if this patch have been implemented in the samba in

Purging Windows cache after NetBIOS namechange?
Hello
XP(SP3) seems to take a long time to update its list of shares after
changing the NetBIOS name used in Samba (eg. going from "LINUX" to
"UBUNTU").
Is there a command in Windows that can purge the data, and perform a
new broadcast/WINS call to get the list of hosts and shares?
Thank you.

Continued: Join domain OK, but domain not found after reboot
Hi, all:
To recap:
I can successfully get my WinXP box to join the domain (WHITEROCK), but
after rebooting, when I try to log on:
"The system cannot log you on now because the domain WHITEROCK is not
available."
I get this even when using the user 'root' - and this user was the one
to successfully join the domain WHITEROCK!!
To rule out any stale junk, my WinXP is a
