Samba-related info on disconnected NT networkshares
The issue of disconnected networkshares (shares offered on an NT server) has appeared on this mailinglist a few times. It is not a samba issue, but it seems many here might benefit from the information given below anyways, as I've never seen a solution to the problem come by. Problem: Whenever there has not been any activity (file/network IO) to or from a networkshare that is offered by an

Ports in close state
I have a machine running redhat 6.2 and samba 2.0.6 that does a persistent mount to my Windows 2000 machine for the purposes of serving files via FTP. The samba connection occasionally times out it seems, I get the message smb_request: result -32, setting invalid smb_retry: new pid=20679, generation=12 and it generates a new connection I've got SO_KEEPALIVE active in the socket options in my

Broken pipe on ls after doing mount -t smbfs
I have a problem with smbmount. I have a linux server running E-Smith (or Mitel SME server as it is now) which is basically a cut down version of RedHat 7.0 (running Kernel 2.2.19-7.0.8smp). Samba version is 2.0.10. We are connecting to an NT server (service pack 3 - I must upgrade that sometime soon). We have quite a good tapedrive and backup software (3rd party) on the E-Smith server, whereas

Red crosses on Mapped drives
I am getting red crosses on the mapped drives of some win2k pro machines connecting to a samba pdc. I don't have them logging into the domain and the drives are disconnecting (it happens on win2k server too). There is a parameter for win2k server to autodisconnect the drive after 15 minutes which can be changed with: net config server /autodisconnect:TIME and there is a registry key in

NTLM and RDR Security Signatures
Hello, I've been using samba to share files on a Redhat server within a windows NT domain. Recently, security policies in the domain have changed, and security signatures are required for the LanManServer and Rdr services. Now that this has been deployed, I get an error when I try to connect to the SMB shares on the Redhat server from Windows hosts saying "account is not authorized to log

here's a fix for Goldmine (and other ISAM database based programs) on Windows NT/2000/XP clients talking to samba
Goldmine seems to a compiled database application compiled in something likeClipper. Clipper applications record lock through ISAM like files (DBF). However, in Windows NT/2000/XP, Opportunistic locking is turned on by default in order to accelerate file transfer from file services. [Windows 95/98 did not Opportunisticly lock] However, opportunistic locking corrupts ISAM and ISAM like

SMB signing.
Hi all, Is anyone using Windows SMB signing in a production environment ? This is the signing proceedure created by setting the Registry keys EnableSecuritySignature:1, RequireSecuritySignature: 1 in the lanmanserver and lanmanworkstation parameters. I'm playing with implementing this in Samba for 3.0, but am finding that it doesn't seem to work when mixing Windows NT or Windows 2000

NullSessionShares under samba.
Hi, Is there an equivalent setting in samba as the Windows NT/2000/XP registry key - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters \NullSessionShares We have a Windows service that needs access to files on a samba share. Setting the above key to the name of the share works well on Windows servers but I can not find a way to do this under samba 2.2.1a. Thanks

Auto-configure Samba to offer same shares as Windows on dual-boot machine
Does anyone know of either a standalone tool or a distribution's install&setup procedure which can set up samba shares by looking at what a windows installation on the same computer does- say, by checking HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Shares, figuring where the directories being shared are mounted, matching printers to those configured in Linux/etc, and offering

Occasional problem with hanging SMB mounts.
Hello everyone. I have two linux servers* that each have four directories mounted as SMBFS shares from a Windows 2000 Server. For the most part, this set-up is working great, however, there have been occasional hiccups. Every so often, one of the servers, LINUX-ONE, logs a couple of Samba-related errors. The following is an example: Jun 30 06:30:45 mx-two kernel: smb_trans2_request:

Samba server participating in MSDFS?
I've been reading through a lot of documentation and haven't found the answer to this question. I'd like to setup a DFS Root on a Win2K3 server with some Samba server shares participating as replica links. Is this possible? I've got the shares setup on the Samba servers and have no trouble accessing them from windows computers. I tried to setup the links on the Win2k3 server, but

The case of the disconnecting network shares
Hi Jeremy, No, I don't mean "deadtime". I mean auto disconnect. Specifically, the command "net config server /autodisconnect:-1" was run on each client machine. If deadtime is a server configuration item perhaps you could point me in the direction of some documentation where that is covered. The documentation for smb.conf is, to put it very mildly, incomplete.

Home server drops connection, can't reconnect
We've got samba 2.2.1a running on a number of servers. Windows 2000 Professional is running on the clients. Only one server is giving us problems: our home server. The connection to the home server will disappear, and Windows 2000 will refuse to reconnect (it inevitably returns an "Incorrect username/password" error). Rebooting the client, or waiting for 15 minutes or so, allows

share persistence problem
After awhile, my connections from my PC to my samba server end up with a red "X" in them (share disappeared) if I leave my explorer window open. If I click on these, they "wake up" and continue to function (and the red X's go away). If I close my explorer window (while the red X's are there) and reopen it , they are gone. An attempt to reestablish these

NT4 with Samba4
Have a need to support one NT4 server in one environment and trying to escape the past a bit by upgrading the PDC which currently runs Samba-3.6.24. So far my testing has shown that Samba4-4.5 as a PDC appears to work just fine. I can even install Exchange 5.5 on the test NT4 server in this environment. However attempting the same Exchange 5.5 installation when running Samba4 in AD mode it
