What windows?
What's the latest on which version of windows to use on the windows partition? I had WinMe installed, then clean installed Win98 because the version of wine I was using seemed to run windows programs a little better using the Win98 style registries. the wine version seemed not to run hardly anything when it was using the WinMe registers. Assuming I use the latest wine available, is it still

Windows ME Logon scripts
I cannot seem to execute any logon %U.bat scripts. It see's them because I get a black box screen and a message 'running logon scripts'. If the user.bat file does not exist it simply skips this step. So I know it sees my bat files. If I execute it from the windows ME pc after the pc is booted up it works. The bat file is as follows: rem Network logon script net use h: \\win\homes

win ME/Samba connection
Ok, believe it or not, I've looked through all 209 pages of the Samba-HOWTO_Collection.pdf plus used this mail list and other internet sources, used those recommendations, tried almost every possible iteration on the samba.conf file, looked at logs until nauseated and have concluded that there is no way that Windows ME can connect to a Linux box using Samba. Connecting to the WinME box from

Printing to a Samba Printer triggering a DNS lookup and dialling the modem
I have just joined the list and I have a problem, perhaps someone can help. I have: Linux 7.0 with 2.4.7 Kernel (with various upgrades for functionality). Samba is running on this machine with shares and a printer on the USB port. This machine also has a modem (demand dialling) and I am using the Monmotha Firewall script. This works quite well for the WinME PC able to access the printer and

Real Windows registry support?
Apparently support for loading a real Windows registry from disk has been disabled. Well that stinks. Is there any way to maybe parse the information stored in a WinXP registry and merge it with Wine's? I have a few programs (Photoshop being one) that I've already installed on my XP partition that I'd like to use without needing to reboot.

more inter-subnet browsing wierdness
We are seeing some strange inter-subnet browsing issues here, our setup is as follows: .129 subnet [ samba box ] | | [ router ] ^ _.1 subnet _/ \_ .9 subnet_ The .129 subnet contains only the samba server configured to the letter from the browsing.txt file. The .1 subnet conists of win98 and winME boxes all configured from DHCP to use the samba box for WINS lookups.

Troubles with Windows Me Registry in latest CVS
I'm having a problem that I'm not sure the cause of. I've never had a problem with wineinstall until recently. I have full read/write access to my Windows partition and wineinstall can see it. However it fails to find the Windows registry for some reason. I'm running Windows Me, on that partition. For Linux I'm running Redhat 7, and latest CVS. Here's the messages I get.

How to import registry of Windows XP backup?
I have a game for Windows where the entire game status is saved in the registry. The game works good under Wine. After a reinstallation the registry got wiped out and therefore my game status. (This game is not important, it could be any program which writes something very important into the registry which I need to restore) But I have an entire backup of my old Windows XP installation. Because

Wine 0.9.11 and Visual Foxpro 9
G'day I am trying to install Visual FoxPro 9 with wine. I have been following the instructions from "http://www.paulmcnett.com/vfp/wine/". I have had to slightly modify the paths used for the symlinks because the format of version 9 appears to differ from that of version 8. Or it's because they didn't lend me the original disks. Basically an extra directory level called

Spaces in WinME Directory Names
Hello! I've finally gotten Samba and WinME to connect and see each other. On my WinME box I've got the usual My Documents folder which I'd like my Linux box to be able to use. I think there's a problem with the space in the directory name. smbmount //WinME/My Documents ~/mountpoint 2854: tree connect failed: ERRSRV - ERRinvnetname (Invalid network name in tree connect.) SMB
