Why is Win98 looking for user "nobody"?
Using Samba v2.0.10 on a RedHat v7.1 box, I see that the Win98 clients on our network are making sporatic requests for user "nobody" (as shown below). Anyone know what's going on here? My network has both Linux and Win98 clients, but only the Win98 clients are showing this behavior. Both the Linux and Win98 clients access the same shared drives, but only the Win98 clients use

Linux/NIS+
Hello, I'm having a problem configuring samba (2.0.5a) on a Linux system using NIS+ as the password system. Samba complains that it cannot find the smbpasswd file, which is not surprising as I'm not using one. I tried 'smb password file = passwd.org_dir' that sort of worked, except that it creates a directory called passwd.org_dir from whatever directory I ran the smbd from.

Please help with winbind setup
I have been (unsuccessfully) trying to get this up and running for the past few days. I have successfully setup samba itself NUMEROUS times but this winbind stuff has me stumped. I have built a fresh box for this server using Turbo Linux server 6.5 and samba 2.2.2. I have followed all the docs and man pages that i could find. 1. I have samba compiled (using --with-winbind --with-pam) and

weird problem
Hi there, I ran into a weird problem. 2 machines, one with an NE2000 clone (W95) card and the other with an Etherworks203 (linux with Samba). samba 2.0.6 on HP-UX 11.0
I've had samba running cleanly on an HP-UX 11.0 system for many months, with "DOMAIN" security and one-to-one account name mapping. A few days ago I started getting password prompts on connection, and messages like this in the log files... [2003/01/02 15:46:36, 0] rpc_parse/parse_prs.c:(316) prs_mem_get: reading data of size 60 would overrun buffer. [2003/01/02 15:46:36, 0]

Attempting to mount to a Samba share from linux.
Hello, I have a fairly large problem mounting a samba share from within linux. The samba server, running Solaris 7 with Samba pre-2.0.7, has a bunch of shares on it, one of which I can mount from Windows, while logged into the ACADIA domain, but I cannot mount that share using smbmount in linux. When I log into windows, I log in with the username 033197m and my password. In smb.conf I have my

Hello everyone, we try to use a server running linux in an NT-domain and get the error message given in the subject-line. More details from the logfile and smb.conf are given below. Can anyone give us a hint what the problem is? (Of course...) The problem is very urgent for us. Thanks a lot in advance. Helmut Rickel ================= smb.conf ======================== [global]

security=domain problems
Hi all, We are having some problems getting a solaris 9(sparc) file server running samba 2.2.2 to authenticate aginst a windows NT 4 PDC. Let me say first that this was all working at one time, then we had some data corrumption on our NFS mounted /usr/local, and had to restore from tape. Due to some issues with solaris ufsdump and ufsrestore, stuff was not quite put back properly. We do

NT User Account Locked Out By Samba
I am currently using Samba on several unix servers, and have numerous users accessing them from NT workstation machines. I have my samba security set equal to DOMAIN. And I have successfully added the unix servers to the domain and created the domain accounts. The problem I have is not a constant problem, but it is a major inconvenience. Sometimes, when a user attempts to access the samba share,

samba 2.0.6 breaks domain validation (for me)
Hi, Recently i moved from samba 2.0.5a to Samba 2.0.6 on 4 machines. Samba 2.0.5a ran quite smooth except for oplocking problems, so i decided to upgrade. I compiled both releases myself and used the same ./configure options both times (but i compiled on different machines: v 2.0.5a was compiled on a HP 9000/715/50, 2.0.6 was compiled on a HP 9000/800/K360) I used binutils 2.9.1 and gcc 2.8.1 on

session setup rejected by PDC and BDCs (NT4 SP5)
Hi, I?ve setup a Samba 2.0.5a on a SuSe 6.2 based Linux 2.2.10. I?m trying to integrate the server into our NT domain SF-DOM as described in samba/textdocs/DOMAIN_MEMBER.txt . The described procedures work, but access as domain user is impossible. In the logfile I get: [1999/09/14 11:18:31, 2] smbd/server.c:main(716) Changed root to / [1999/09/14 11:18:31, 2] smbd/reply.c:reply_special(96)

Hi all, I just released Samba 2.0.7pre2, available from : ftp://samba.org/pub/samba/alpha/samba-2.0.7pre2.tar.gz This is the second snapshot of the code that should become the official Samba 2.0.7 and is feature complete (ie. I'm only going to accept bug fixes, not more features). This is *not* production code, but should work well as a file and print server, and contains fixes for all

smbpasswd command - updated
A couple of days ago I posted a problem I was having with the smbapasswd command for users (not root). Here is the original post: I have Samba installed on a HP-UX 11.00 system using NIS for UID/password resolution. The smbpasswd file hasbeen initilized and as root I can add a user's password and the user can "attach" the "share". But when the user tries to do the
