Can anyone suggest a solution?
Thankyou for taking the time to read this ...
We have large PC userbase and a not-so-large (but equally loud) Unix
user base. We have a requirement to "PopUp" information windows on ALL
our user's screens with an absolute minimum of manual intervention (ie
type the message once and then forget it).
We can manage the Unix X servers but can't seem to find a UNIX
application that

Problems copying many files
I'm encountering problems copying files from a Windows NT workstation
to a Linux system. Not all of the files are being copied.
A week ago I submitted a bug report. The only response was an
automated reply acknowledging that the message was received. I'm
assuming that they are very busy and have not had time to go through
all of the incoming e-mail.
Maybe someone here could help, or

Hi!
I'm having the following problem with samba 1.9.18 running on Linux

Dos Btrieve Windows 98 and Samba 4.0
?We are trying to migrate a Dos based btrieve application from Windows NT
to Samba 4?.1.6-Ubuntu. Running one client works, running more that one
client do not work.
I searched Google and there are many historic pages about issues related to
the btrieve / Samba combination.
Are there stable solutions of this issue?
Kind Regards

btrieve applications
Hello fellow samba users,
I have installed quite a couple of samba fileservers so far.
There are exactly two installations which give me real hard time,
and both have to do with Win9x clients running applications based
on ... *sigh* btrieve.
What I do server-sided is switch on opportunistic locking (level2
oplocks = yes).
Without this, the applications don't run at all, at least not on

Run executable file
Is it possible to create an executable in unix, place it on a samba share,
and run it from NT.
i ran a little test putting "ls" in my samba share and tried double clicking
it to see if it would run.
my main goal is to create a batch file from NT that calls a script located
on a unix box shared by samba
thanks

path to long in samba-2.2.5
Hello.
I have a problem with samba-2.2.5 and Win2000. I try to copy a file onto my
home share and the explorer takes a long time to copy the file. After a
while (ca. 30 seconds) there comes an error-box: path is to long (Der Pfad
ist zu lang.)
The error just gives me an OK-button. The files is correctly transmitted. I
checked it, but if takes a very long time and there comes the error-message.

migrating samba to different machine
I tried migrating our samba settings from one machine to another, but
Windows sees it as a different server.
I currently have an older version of samba setup on an old machine. I
setup the latest version of samba on a different machine with different
build specs (e.g. acl support, etc.). I migrated over the
usernames/passwords and MACHINE.SID file (is this even used anymore?)
and setup smb.conf

Using ssh as a wrapper
Has anyone tried to wrap your SMB session inside another TCP protocol
like SSH?
I'm trying to sync files across two linux machines but my broadband
provider is blocking SMB and port 139 traffic.
If anyone has any information it would be greatly appreciated.

when RedHat makes patches for only some versions
I guess this is really a RedHat, not CentOS question, but I?m hoping that someone here will be familiar enough with the upstream policy to have some useful information.
How does RedHat decide which versions to release patches for, e.g. https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2015-7613 <https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2015-7613> which has only a RH7 erratum, not 6? And are

What linux distro most popular for Asterisk
Is there a recent survey of that Linux distro and version people are using for the Asterisk installations? I recall seeing a pie chart over a year ago (I think on a wiki but I can't find it again)....also hoping for something more current.
I suspect RH5 and RH6 are most popular...but I'm looking for facts

I have RHel6. How does that turn into Centos 6?
The bickering here about Centos 6 has made me wonder what is actually
legally necessary to re-distribute the RPM files that come with RHel6.
I am not starting a flame ware, I hope. I'm just curious about what
is minimally necessary go from RHel6 to another distribution. I
suppose we could discuss "Paul Linux 6" instead of Centos, if that
makes you feel more comfortable. (and not

New RedHat 6.0 rpm's available for Samba 2.0.4b.
Hi all,
I have made a RedHat 6.0 i386 binary rpm of 2.0.4b
with the glibc2.1 configuration fix available at :
ftp:<samba.org
mirror>/pub/samba/Binary_Packages/redhat/RPMS/6.0/samba-2.0.4b-19990527.i386.rpm
This rpm is to be preferred over the one on the RedHat 6.0
cd as it contains an autoconf configuration test to work
around the glibc2.1 bug w.r.t. 64 bit locking (the one

Roaming Profiles with win 98 - Doesn't work.
I would like to know if anybody on this list has managed to have a network
of 98 clients running off a samba server, and had roaming profiles, i.e.
people's settings follow them from machine to machine. I have done
everything I find in the guides, and I have no idea why the machines create
new local profiles. I've searched the net for documentation, example
websites, etc, but it seems the

secretly replacing a windows domain client with samba
Hello!
I have a problem: I work in a company which is strictly windows-only, and
I really need to replace a windows-xp machine - which is a member of the
company's domain - with a linux machine (using samba).
This new linux machine will have to upload backups of its data to a share
within the domain. Thus, it needs to be a member of the domain (correct?).
Obviously, I need to join the

Teaming vs Bond?
I'm looking at tuning up a new site and the bonding issue came up
A google search reveals that the gluster docs (and Lindsay) recommend
balance-alb bonding.
However, "team"ing came up which I wasn't familiar with. Its already in
RH6/7 and Ubuntu and their Github page implies its stable.
The libteam.org people seem to feel their solution is more lightweight
and it seems easy

2.2.0 Installed and a problem
Hello:
I've successfully build and upgraded to 2.2.0 here but I'm rapidly
puling out my hair (or what's left of it after alpha3) on getting W2K
working with LInux as a PDC.
Here's what I have:
