Excel and Word file corruptions
Has anyone seen file corruption with Excel 97 SR1, on Samba?
Scotty (scott@dork.com) is running 2.0.7 on SCO 5.0.4 on a
Compaq Proliant 800, compiled on SCO 5.0.5 box.
He writes, on comp.protocol.smb:

Transfering large files
Hello!
I've been seeing some weird problems with transfering large files from a
Samba (2.0.4a[1]) server to Windows clients. Sometimes (but not always) the
Windows client will stop copying the file after a few megs and claim that
the share is no longer available (it is, of course).
This used to happen *a lot* with the default read/write buffer of 8k. The
buffer is now 250 K, which has almost

Preexec and multiple commands
Hi,
I am trying to create two directories using the preexec command but I must
be missing something very simple. I just can?t figure out the syntax. How
would I continue this so that I could create dir2?
preexec = if [ ! -e /home/%U/dir1] then /bin/mkdir /home/%U/dir1; fi

Root did not create the semaphore
Hello all,
I have a very annoying situation (at least at my end). I set up Samba
2.0.5 on a Digital UNIX 4.0F system sitting on a Compaq DS20 server with
great success.... until recently. I set up three directory file shares
with no problems, when I tried to set up a forth, quite a while after
setting up the inital three, I tried to access it from a NT box, I got

SCO remove() and unlink()
There was a patch merged in on 9/29 that changed remove() calls to
unlink():
- (djm) Merged big SCO portability patch from Tim Rice

Does SCO's libc not include remove()? Note that sftp-server.c is
currently using remove. The reason I ask is I'd like to keep the
portable tree as close to openbsd as possible, and if we need remove()
for SCO we should

[OT] Fyodor terminates SCO nmap rights -- how about Samba?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
As you all may know Fyodor of nmap fame has terminated SCO's
rights to distribute namp with its products. See:
http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2004/02/27/1077676955381.html
I know this is off-topic, but I am interested in opinions
on the subject of SCO using Samba in it's products while they declare
the GPL is unconstitutional and invalid.

Cannot install broom package
Hello,
I've problems installing several packages in my R on Fedora 27 64 bit. I
found out that it has to do something with a missing compiler
(libgfortran.so.3, see below).
It works if I downgrade the current version of libgfortran to the
specified version by downloading libgfortran-6.2.1-2.fc25.x86_64.rpm and
manually installing it.
However, I don't want to mess up my system,

Samba, the GPL and SCO
For those of you following the IBM vs SCO legal case, you have probably
noticed that SCO has said that the GPL is invalid. IBM appears to make
the reasonable case that you can't say something is void, and then rely
on it. INAL, but why is SCO allowed to distribute Samba without agreeing
to the GPL? That's like buying a car, then claiming the sale agreement
is bogus but you still want

Samba and client oplock breaks over WAN
This only happens with PCs on the other end of a bridged 56k DDS line.
It also affects DOS and W98 clients the same.
Clients can log onto the domain ok, and browse. But trying to drag
a file, or even right-click it in W98 explorer, cause the machine
to hang, and eventually blue screen with a VREDIR VXD error.
If I copy to Samba, sometimes it works, but then the file is zero bytes.

Could generic functions check different S3 methods for an object when one of them produces an error?
Dear Iago,
The R S3 object system works as expected here, using the first available method processing the class vector from left to right. The problem is that the broom package doesn't export the confint.geeglm() method but rather reserves it for internal use. I can't think why the package authors chose to do that but you could ask them. The following therefore works (following on with

I'm sorry I haven't boiled this down to a more-minimal example yet,
but ...
I'm working on an S3 method (tidy.merMod, in the 'broom' package). It
normally handles 'merMod' objects from the lme4 package, but I'm trying
to make it handle 'merModLmerTest' objects from the lmerTest package too.
The merModLmerTest class inherits (as an S4) class from the

Could generic functions check different S3 methods for an object when one of them produces an error?
Hi,
Let's say one has an object with multiple classes, and a generic function to apply to it has associated S3 methods for more than one of those classes. Further, the method it chooses (I do not know how; some order in the class vector?) is not the suitable one and it produces an error. Would there be some way to make the generic function to choice the correct method, or in case that for

SCO Openserver 5.0.5 ssh2 problem.
I just finished compiling openssh-2.1.0p3 on a SCO openserver system. I
generated the keys fine and genereated the host keys both rsa and dsa
without problems.
ssh (version1) works great.
I tried to use ssh (version 2) and after being prompted to login, it
quits. I am attaching a script file of...
ssh -v -2 root at sco to see if you can find the problem. Let me know how I
can help.
