%L, subnets and dns resolution Xmas problem
Hi, Using the %L macro in smb.conf is for me *very* usefull, I can setup as many logical servers as I need and that's great : no need for new machines, I can switch logical servers back and forth, it's a kind of System Administrator dream :-) *But* I've discovered a problem with the %L macro in a subnetted environment : - "hermes" is a Samba 1.9.18p10 server on a hpux

Odd behavior w/ read raw and write raw under NT1
A coworker and I have been doing some performance tuning with Samba 20b4 under Linux 2.0.36 (RedHat 5.2 distribution) on a 100-T network. The protocol is NT1. Two settings are tweaked in particular, "read raw" and "write raw". When both are yes, reading a large file results in 6M/s, but writing is only 2M/s, which is far below writing to an NT server (6M/s). If any of

Problem with sending messages (smbclient -M ...)
Hi I use messages (net send...., smbclient -M ....) to let a server dial to my provider, or to let him fetch my mial. This worked until I switched to 1.9.18p3. My server is named FGP, my group FGP_GROUP. One of the nt-clients is named SAUSCHNELL - and one of the users on SAUSCHNELL is names fgp - like the server. Since I use 1.9.18p3 all the messages sent to FGP from a NT-computer are actually

Can't display ".." with the p8 release
Hello, I ask this question last week but I got no response : I have installed the 1.9.18p8 release on my HP9000 ( HP-UX 10.20 ). I use the same smb.conf than with the p2 release . I have now a problem with the Windows 3.11 clients : In the subdirectories of each share, I can't display the " .. " root directory ( but it works ). Is it a bug

SMB across subnets
Hi THis look like NT uses the dns-server to resolv netbios names (can be configured in the network properties). Try disabling that, and pray that nt, win95 und unix-servers find each other - if all the computers show up in all the network neighbor hood's , you won. Otherwise - well, contact microsoft - they invented wins, not-working-network-neighbor hood's and things like this...

Samba as a Proxy
Hi I think this should be possible. If the linux-server doesn't have to be a PDC, you can simply use samba with the parameter security = server password server = <real PDC> in your smb.conf If the linux-server has to be a PDC; you have to use the samba-NTDOM version. You can obtain it only via public CVS from samba.anu.edu.au. mfg, fgp -------------------------------------

Browsing with 1.9.18p7 and WfW 3.11
Hi We are using a Debian 1.3.1 server (two Ethernet-Cards) with 18 Clients. The Clients remote-boot from the server using mars_nwe(Novell-Server emulation). Under Windows (WfW 3.11) the Clients user the Microsoft 32-bit Tcp-Stack to access the samba-server( 1.9.18p7). The problem is that the clients can't see the samba-server in their browse-lists, nor can they access the server with net

Multihome WINS Registration
I've got a bit of a problem, which is related to the problem I posted yesterday. Samba is not registering the right address with the WINS server, when it is on a multi-homed machine. The machine is on two networks, like this: Subnet A(128.173.188.0) ------------------------------------------------------- | | |

Basic regression output question
Hi Probably a very basic question: I am regressing a matrix of 50 response variables against a matrix of 10 factors using the lm function. This gives me an object with the output for 50 regressions, as required. How do I now "use" the data? For example, below is some code that generates sample data and shows me the summary statistics for regression 50. If I want to access the data,

Samba-3.0-alpha9 compilation problems
Hello, I'm afraid this message is going to be a little long (188 lines, not counting the headers). It is comprised, in fact, of two posts I sent to the comp.protocols.smb newsgroup, from which I've not received any replies. I'm hoping I can have better luck with the mailing list, (to which I've just subscribed, so it's probably most appropriate to send replies there...)

Wireless fails with Netgear MA401 card.
Alle, I have recently installed CentOS4.4 on an old Fujitsu E7110 laptop. I'm trying to get a Netgear MA401 card installed for wireless access but when I configure the card and start the network I get: Mar 9 09:03:20 localhost network: Setting network parameters: succeeded Mar 9 09:03:20 localhost kernel: ip_tables: (C) 2000-2002 Netfilter core team Mar 9 09:03:20 localhost network:
