Virus checker gets error "Network Name was deleted" ?
hi,
Has anyone encountered problems running virus checkers on NT4+sp3
clients against Samba served drives ? We recently upgraded
a samba server to 1.9.18p10 and now have an intermittent problem
where during the scan of Samba drive the virus check flakes out
with the error;
"Network Name was deleted"
I'm told that the server still appears to be browsable after this
error, and the

password sync in 1.9.18p4
I had given NIS access to the Windows NT domain users via Samba
1.9.18p3. The Samba gateway worked great when the users on the NT domain
had the same username & password on both the NT PDC as well as the NIS.
I have now set up Samba 1.9.18.p4 with server security & password sync
turned on. The server specified is my NT PDC. Users get full access to
the NIS & the NT with single logon

Here is a current listing of the parameters that can be changed
by SWAT in each of the 3 pages. A "no" means it does not
appear in that page. "BASIC" means it shows in the basic view.
"ADVANCED" means it only shows in the advanced view
(unless its value is non default, in which case it shows in the
basic view as well).
Do people think this is the right settings for

Using optimize with array variables
Hello,
I am trying to figure out how to use optimize() with array variables
as inputs. I have a for loop in the function definition:
SS <- function(int,slo,x,y){
for(i in 1:length(x)) ((int+slo*x[i])-y[i])^2->squares[i]
sum(squares)->>sum_squares
output_txt = c ("The sum of squares is", sum_squares)
print(output_txt, quote=FALSE)}
Even assuming I make x and y

Does R accumulate memory
Dear List:
I am running into a memory issue that I haven't noticed before. I am
running a simulation with all of the code used below. I have increased
my memory to 712mb and have a total of 1 gb on my machine.
What appears to be happening is I run a simulation where I create 1,000
datasets with a sample size of 100. I then run each dataset through a
gls and obtain some estimates.
This works

Virus Scanner
Hello Listers,
does anyone know about virus scanners working on Unix hosts but
scanning for all those bad vermin from the M$ world.
Best solution (for me) would be a tight coupling with samba,
monitoring the I/O as some PC scanners do.
Any suggestions?
TIA,

2.0.7: inherit permissions = yes breaks setting read-only on files
Hi,
While testing the upgrade from 2.0.6 to 2.0.7 I found some kind of
misbehaviour of inherit permissions.
It was already known that the SGID bit on directories is only useable
with "inherit permissions = yes". Most of my shares depend heavily on
this (unix) feature.
Today I found out I cannot change a file attribute to read-only from NT
while "inherit permissions" is set

sticky bit on directories created via net neighborhood
I've set "force directory mode = 1775" in smb.conf, but when
I make directories in a share through network neighborhood, I
end up with 0775, i.e. user has rwx, group rwx, others rx.
The sticky bit is not getting set.
What am I doing wrong?
thanks in advance,

[cfe-dev] Phabricator Maintenance
I want to bubble out of this discussion, because most of the conversation has been about merit of various tools, how much the cloud license costs, etc.
In my opinion, none of this actually matters. There are much larger strategic questions that we should be talking about instead:
1) Why is LLVM special? We are a tiny community compared to the larger GitHub community - anything that makes us

compiling R-1.5.0, package methods, on Solaris 5.7
Compiling package methods, R-1.5.0, on Solaris 5.7 failed (output below)
for me with
- gcc-2.95.3, perl-5.005_03
and also

Any ideas a) what the problem is or even better b) how to solve it?

dovecot errors after upgrade to 5.1
Everyone,
Looks like my Centos 5.0 mail server upgraded automatically last night
to 5.1. It appears to have worked normally until about 16:00 CST when
dovecot began to fail. I have rebooted the system to be able to use the
5.1 kernel, but dovecot still continues to fail.
Has anyone else made this observation?
My log entries are below
Thanks in advance!!!!

Bug in rsyncd 2.5.0 while handling config file string values
I compiled and tried rsync 2.5.0 but could not get the server
running. loadparm.c:string_set() now calls free() which it did not do
in 2.4.6 and this free() tries to free memory that was not allocated
with malloc.
Here is a gdb run (done after adding return before fork() in
become_daemon) which shows where it crashes and what my minimal config
file for demonstrating the bug was. The config file

Samba PDC with Windows 7 support request
Dear Samba support team,
I have a question on Samba 3.5.8 please, which is not solved by searching
the forums. I tried all suggested solutions, but nothing take effect.
Situation:
- small public school
- We have Ubuntu Server 11.04 64-bit
- Samba 3.5.8 as PDC
- Windows XP and Windows 7 Pro SP1 clients
- On Windows XP everything works. Login is quick and reliable there.

Separate access to different "folders" of the same mailbox?
Hello Timo and everyone,
I think on such an idea that may save me a bit of space and time:
in my company we have a mailbox that holds a copy of every message that
our SMTP processed. While it eats a lot of space, it saved us several
times when, you may imaging, user "suddenly" deleted the most important
message in his life and call our IT guys for help. The mailbox contains
