Can't install Civ4
I know this is a long shot, but I have to ask. I had tried to get Civ4 working in Wine without success in the past, but recently was encouraged to try again based on reports in the Civ4 linux forum. One key was that versions before 1.3.X didn't work. Running openSuse 11.4, which installed Wine 1.3.12, I just followed the usual procedure to install Civ4, Beyond the Sword and my favorite mod,

DNS name and netbios name differ
Hi All, I'm having some problems getting Win'9X to connect to an NT share when the netbios name for the NT server is different from the DNS name, and the win'9x machine is using the DNS name. NT workstation is happy with doing this, but '9X isn't. The strange thing is that it works fine when '9X connects to a samba server that is similarly configured. If I understood

Wine registry format question
In the reg files there is a number at the end of every section/key property. Example: [System\\CurrentControlSet\\Services\\VxD\\MSTCP] 1296424715 What is the purpose of "1296424715"? Is this a time stamp or checksum?

So when I try to open Samba box via network neighbornhood I got pop-up window with inputs of username and password, I tape valid values and got this popup again. In samba log I see this: [2003/02/12 09:27:58, 0]

Trouble with MacPorts install, .profile file not created/ need help
I have just installed MacPorts 1.7.0 for Leopard using a downloaded .dmg file. Following the download and installation, I looked for the .profile file to change the environment variables, but found that no .profile file was created. When I tried to do so, I got an error message: /Applications/TextEdit.app/Contents/MacOS/TextEdit .profile 2008-12-27 14:19:02.393 TextEdit[47100:10b] ***

win95 client problems (registry limitation?)
Howdy: I'm new to this samba stuff, but I've run across a problem that doesn't seem to be documented anywhere. It seems that OSR/2 clients (with all the M$ system updates; I already added the EnableClearTextPassword key) that have had their TCP/IP settings tweaked in the registry (eg, MaxMTU=576, TTL=32, RWIN added, etc) for DUN connections have mucho problems with a samba

Models and Inheritance
I have a table of companies and a join table forming the relationship between a list of possible services they can provide. Working from a basic understanding of OOP I assumed that there should be a series of Serviceprovider child objects of the company class. AW: RH 6.1 samba 2.0.7pre3 BUG!
samba does the SMB(!) authentication against machine "a" but you MUST have equal users on ALL machines. How else should samba create files on the unix file system if there is no UNIX user to deal with? It is not a problem of samba, it's a "problem" of unix. The only trick to do this would be to create a dummy unix user and do a "force user" to this dummy on every

SUM: After upgrade to 2.0.6, Win98 users can't connect to Samba shares
Hi everybody - Yesterday, I said that my Windows 98 & 95 computers couldn't connect to my Samba shares after upgrading from version 1.9.16p9 to 2.0.6, while my NT 4.0 (SP4 & SP6) computers could, even though I had the same user names & passwords on all the machines (UNIX, Win'9x, NT). I re-read the "What's New in Samba 2.0.6" document this morning, and found

Samba Install
I am looking at installing Samba for use on a production server. I already have it installed on two systems (version 2.0.6), but do not have installed to the point of getting the best performance out of it with what is available. So my question is, what should I (or should I not) install? What version of Samba that is out is the best? I am aware of Samba 2.0.7 is at least decent, is it the latest

[Q] Bayeisan Network with the "deal" package
Dear R-users I am looking for a help in using the "deal" package. I followed the manual and paper from the author's web site to learn it, as shown below, but I could not figure out how to access the local and posterior probability of the nodes in the constructed network. library(deal) data(ksl) ksl.nw <- network(ksl) ksl.prior <- jointprior(ksl.nw) banlist <-
