Weird samba problems / more info
I have a level 10 debug of the smbd/oplock process_local_message problem but can still not figure out what causes the unknown UDP message command code. I checked the source but could only see that this is an invalid opcode command. Anyone a clue what is happening here ? Might wrong opcode commands crash samba ? explorer freezes on right-clicking .exe's
I'm using samba 2.1 pre-alpha. When I right click an .exe file on the most shares, explorer freezes, and must be killed to recover. The problem doesn't show up on the home shares, but appears on any other shares I create. I've experienced this problem on many different workstations. Looking at the logs, it seems to be a problem with oplocks; the part of the log that seems to apply is

It's just stopped working! (1.9.18p8, IRIX 5.3)
Hi all, I'm extremely puzzled by the behaviour of one of my Samba servers. It's been working fine for yonks, and this morning (abuout 11:32) it just stopped. (mostly) Connecting to shares still works. Navigating the tree till works. Changing (DOS) attributes still works. But actually opening files and reading the contents doesn't work. The client just times out (Win 3.11, and

Display problems with Freelance Graphics & Notes under Wine
I have been trying to use Freelance Graphics under Wine for a long time (since Oct 2000 :), but I cannot seem to get the display stuff working correctly. I always get text splattered over top of other text when trying to view existing .PRZ files. This happens in both Freelance and in Lotus Notes (when Notes is trying to display a file attachment of the .prz persuasion). A quick Google search

AW: ssh + permissions
The "-a" option (the "--links", "--perms", "--devices", and "--times" options are redundant, as they, as well as "--owner", "--group", and "--recursive" are implied by "-a" )does dictate that permissions on files being sent be brought over from the source. Are all files losing permissions, or only files

Problem with visual C++ and samba
We are having a problem with Microsoft visual C++ compiling source code maintained on a samba server. Occasionaly the compiler reports that it cant open the file vc50.pch. The samba server is running on a freebsd box. Taking a look at the log files it looks like when the operation fails the server is processing the command open (vc50.pch for exclusive use write setattrE write open (vc50.pch

Samba 1.9.16pl11: dropping connections between Solaris 2.5.1 and WinNT4SP3
Hi all: I am experiencing a problem where WinNT and Samba are dropping connections during file transfers. I have the following smb.conf settings: keep alive = 30 dead time = 1440 socket options = IPTOS_THROUGHPUT SO_KEEPALIVE (although I tried IPTOS_NODELAY with no apparent benefit). The client is copying a large number of files up to the server, then there is a pause at a random file,

Inherit Permissions addition
Gentlemen, I was delighted to read about and test the "inherit permissions" feature of version 2.0.7 for myself. This is a wonderful addition to Samba; thank you, David Lee, for your fine work. After initial testing, it became apparent to me that inheriting the 'group' permissions on a subfolder within a share without also 'forcing' the group ownership on the new files

Passwords fail from Win95 but not from DOS (Samba 1.9.16p11/NetBSD)
Hi, I'm having some problems with Samba 1.9.16p11 on a Sun3/60 running NetBSD 1.2. I have a Win95 client and a couple of DOS clients on a single ethernet segment (it's at home :-). I've set up a simple configuration, intention was just to serve files from the Sun to the PC's. Everything works perfectly except authentication from the Win95 client. I can connect to the Samba shares

Help. Unable to print from NT
Hi, I'm running samba-2.0.4b rpm package on Redhat 6.0. I was able to setup samba just fine along with the printer. I can print from the linux box just fine both text and postscript. My NT 4.0 server(SP3) running PDC saw the printer fine. I was able to install the printer as a network printer with no problem. But I just cannot print to it. When I turned on the debug level to 10. I got the

Hello, We're experiencing a problem with samba after an upgrade, which only occurs when using a strange combination of software. The problem only occurs with samba 2.2 and higher. Unable to apply mysqld_db_t to mysql directory
Hello, A server was configured in /var/lib/myslq in the root fs. I added a LV specifically for mysql. I stopped myql and renamed /var/lib/mysql to /var/lib/mysql.old. I created a new dir /var/lib/mysql and mounted the LV on /var/lib/mysql. I then copied with "cp -prZ" all mysql files in /var/lib/mysql.old to /var/lib/mysql. But then I got a selinux problem: # ls -ldZ mysql.old/
