Need help for R install
Dear R committee: I am Renzhi, Ph.D student in computer science in the University of Missouri. I have one question for you. I try to install R in the linux server, but I don't have the root permission, is there any way to install the R locally? Thank you very much for helping me. Port 139 versus Port 445
I've noticed that my W2K clients connect to Samba much more quickly if I run it on port 445 instead of 139. However, my WNT clients then won't connect at all. I read somewhere that it was possible to forward the requests on port 139 to port 445. Anyone know how to do this or how to listen to both ports simultaneously? Thanks, Jason Joines Open Source = Open Mind

Undefined symbols
Where could I get information about wine libraries content ? For instance, if I'm migrating a WNT console based application using winelib, which is the library I must link with object files ? I don't have this information. Thanks in advance. Ignasi Villagrasa.

Winelib problems
I'd like to know how to link console functions such as WriteConsoleOutputA. They are documented as implemented, and I can compile source code including these function predefinitions, but I get undefined errors when linking. I don't know which library to add to get objects linked. Thanks in advance. Ignasi Villagrasa.

Calculating file size.
hi, Here's an interesting one... If I view the files on my Samba server, the file size is reported differently depending on if I'm looking from WinXX or Win2k. That is, if I do a 'properties' on a file with Windows ME for instance, I see 'Size' and 'Size on Disk' numbers that seem reasonable. Size on Disk is slightly larger which seems reasonable. But if I look

Full wNT/w2K ACL conformance
We are planning to replace a quite big domain running W2K with Samba ( at the very least, the DC ). Though i'd love to have the extra security capabilities of W2K ( Kerberos ) as a DC, Samba/NT4 as PDC/BDC with ldapsam will more than suffice for now. The show-stopper right now is this: we need to be able to assign "real" Full Control permissions: a user who has "Full

Extract fixed effects SE from lmer
Hi, Does anyone know how to extract fixed effects SE values from generalized linear mixed models estimated using the lmer function in the lme4 library? I searched attributes and structure with no luck. Thanks Frank A. La Sorte, Ph.D. Department of Fisheries and Wildlife Sciences University of Missouri Columbia, MO 65211 USA

usbhid-ups on OmniOS (Solaris 10 derivate)
Hi Matej, I've cc'ed the developers mailing list for now... thanks for your report. Could you please send in some driver debug traces (starting it manually, using "usbhid-ups -DDDDD ...")? That would help in troubleshooting the issue. thx and cheers, Arno 2014-12-19 8:48 GMT+01:00 Matej Sekoranja <matej.sekoranja at gmail.com>: > > Update: driver is not stable. I

Greetings, I have a 500Gig hdd with and XFS filesystem created by openfiler (which strangely switched from lovely CentOS for reasons best known to them). I fired up a Centos box with this hdd. I then did yum install kmod-xfs.i686 xfsdump.i386 dmapi xfsprogs and it wnt through. But when I try to mount this volume mount -t xfs /dev/hdd1 /mnt/test I get the error: mount: /dev/hdd1 already

I find it slightly surprising, that ifelse(TRUE, character(0), "") returns NA instead of character(0). [WNT 2.6.2 Patched] -- Heikki Kaskelma

3.0.2rc1, LDAP, Solaris 9 and secondary group problem - Bug 395?
Hi, we have tested Samba 3.0.0 and 3.0.1 with LDAP-Support (--with-ldap) on Solaris 8 and it worked fine. The machine authenticates against an OpenLDAP server. Patch 108993-23 is applied and we use native Sun LDAP client modules. On Solaris 9 we ran into problems with secondary groups. Users cannot access files if the rights are based on a secondary group and if this information is stored on

samba + kerberos + active directory with multiple domains
I've almost got this thing working. I have it set up on a centos machine to authenticate logins and automounts to windows file servers. But it won't allow me to specify a domain as part of the userid. I can set a default domain in smb.conf and logging into that domain works like a champ. And I can list the other domains with "wbinfo --online-status" (not sure what

slow backup using W98
I have been using Samba as a Windows server replacement for years, both in my shop and most of my clients. Recently I replaced a WNT 4 server at a customer location with a Linux box - Mandrake 10.0 - which is strictly a file server. The machine my client is using to backup his server is a W98 box w/ 350MHz/256MB, an HP Travan tape drive and Stomp Backup My PC V5.0. This backup was taking about 4

read.table() suggestions
Hi, I understand work is being done to improve read.table(), especially by Prof. Brian D. Ripley. I offer below a version that I wrote, in the hope some aspects of it may prove useful or at least inspire discussion. Be aware that my version differs in a couple fundamental ways that reflect my aversion to dataframes and factors. So it returns a list of vectors which are all character,

autoconfigure new NT4 sp3 clients, samba 1.9.19 server
Hi, I'm running the Alpha of 1.9.19 (we needed Samba as a domain controller) and want to know the best way to set it up so that the first login for a new user on an WNT workstation in that domain creates the profile we want for the user, rather than the one NT seems to want. 1. The profile created is about .5 Mb in size. The parts that we want in there are maybe 20% of that. How does

Project "Muncher" the next step in wine
Ok, It's a lame name but it was the best I could come up with after spinning around in a desk chair for a few minutes. Here is the general idea behind it. Once, in an interview, Steve Balmber, the CEO of Microsoft threw some standard MS FUD out about Linux being a poor choice becaue each distro tends to "mutate" linux and has no solid direction I thought "Wouldn't
