About File locking
Is there a way to lock an EXE file on a shared volumn in such a way that only one person can use it at a time? With some kind of sharing violation happening if a second person tries? This is the latest version of SAMBA on a Linux box, and Win95 clients. many thanks. Tony Nichols tnichols@bedford-ind.com.au Network Support Officer Bedford Industries South Australia.

Anyone using SCO 3.2v4.2 with Samba 1.9.18p3??
SCO Unix 3.2v4.2 Samba 1.9.18p3 Problem with I_STR/SIOCGIFCONF I haven't a clue what is wrong here... We compiled samba 1.9.18p3 using GCC and everything is working pretty much okay. However, when we start the nmbd server we get an error message: > 03/22/1998 10:19:15 netbios nameserver version 1.9.18p3 started > Copyright Andrew Tridgell 1994-1997 > doing parameter log level = 3

success on SCO5
Hi all, I'm not on the list but I thought it might interest some of you to know that openssh 2.2.0p1 compiles quite well under sco5. Although not right out of the box. I'm not using gcc on those platforms, so I had to change the call to gettimeofday() because the sco cc want only one of the two arguments (SCO doesn't care with timezone). So I had to modify those files to get it work:

winpopup
Hi, I have a linux (redhat 6.0) print server and I am running samba 2.0.3-8 serving win95 machines. I would like the print server to send a message to the win95 when a print job is completed. To do that, I run winpopup on win95. However, if win95 users close winpopup, they do not receive any message. Is there any more realiable method to communicate with win95 machines? I would appreciate any

Winpopup help - will pay
Before I start I should say that I will pay $2000US to get the information or code I seek. I need code or protocol specs to be able to send winpopup messages. It cannot be done via mail slots because it has to work over the internet at large. If you type in "net send x.x.x.x hello" on any windows nt or xp machines it will send a winpopup using UDP ports 137 and then 135 (also 1031 and

From the smb.conf help document regarding the "message command" field:- >You could make this command send mail, or whatever else takes your fancy. >Please let us know of any really interesting ideas you have. First, my question:- Does Samba do anything in particular with the standard output of the program specified here? What would it take to have it WinPopUp-ed back to the

Wanted: Unix Winpopup receiver program.
I want to use smbclient -M to send new mail notification to unix users. I have some of our workstations running smbd from inetd and am using the "message command" option quite successfully. What I was wondering is, has someone implemented the winpopup reception end in a form that would be more efficient than using full blown smbd? Am I making myself clear? Perhaps if someone could

rpcclient-style call for windows messenger service ("WinPopup")?
Can Samba be used to generated WinPopUp RPC calls on TCP port 135? I am familiar with using the "smbclient -M" command to send messages using the Win Popup protocol, otherwise known as Windows Messenger Service, or what a Microsoft user does from a DOS prompt as a "net send" command. WinPopup can be generated either via Microsoft file sharing protocols, using the

print job complete messages
I know I've read something about this in the distant past, but i can't seem to find any info on it now. I'm hoping someone knows offhand... I'm using samba 2.2.8a and cups 1.1.17 to serve printing to some windows 2000 workstations. Cups is set up with raw queues and I'm using the windows drivers available from HP. When the clients print from the windows print server,

snapdir visable recursively throughout a dataset
Is there an existing RFE for, what I''ll wrongly call, "recursively visable snapshots"? That is, .zfs in directories other than the dataset root. Frankly, I don''t need it available in all directories, although it''d be nice, but I do have a need for making it visiable 1 dir down from the dataset root. The problem is that while ZFS and Zones work smoothly

pre2.0.7 disk quota bug:
Since an 'over-quota' or 'disk-full' message is being sent from Samba to the client, it seems obvious that the client _should_ be passing this info. on to the user -- but it isn't. One possible way to get this info. to the client is for Samba to call a shell script similar to the 'preexec' options if quota is exceeded. The script could then invoke smbclient to send a

win95 ppp connection to samba- password again
thanks to the samba crew- we have converted several netware and nt user servers into one seam-less Unix network, except for one group, netware dialup users. ok, win95 client, ppp to linux server. using newest pppd, with correct ms-wins and ms-dns code. client can dial, gets wins server ips, etc. the client functions fine with tcp-ip stuff. the ppp server is the wins server. go to client and do a
