win95 ppp connection to samba- password again
thanks to the samba crew- we have converted several netware and nt user servers into one seam-less Unix network, except for one group, netware dialup users. ok, win95 client, ppp to linux server. using newest pppd, with correct ms-wins and ms-dns code. client can dial, gets wins server ips, etc. the client functions fine with tcp-ip stuff. the ppp server is the wins server. go to client and do a

Browsing via Win95 ppp
While there is a lot about the above subject in the archives as well as FAQ's etc, I just can't seem to get this working. Our setup is a SCO 5 box running SAMBA 1.9.8p8 (the latest)on a network using a single domain and about 50 Win95 clients; and several remote Windows 95 clients which dial in using "dial up networking". Using explicit addresses, the remote clients can use

Winpoopup via ppp
A short time ago I wrote regarding browsing a network from a remote site connected via Windows 95 ppp - and recieved help - thank you. I enabled WINS on the server and pointed the Win95 Network WINS setting to that IP number. Now... is there a way to get winpopup to send/recieve messages via that same connection. At the moment, this happens:- 1) I am warned that Netware can only handle 39

ppp and Samba
I'm setting up a dialin server using our Linux server which runs Samba and authenticates against Windows 95 and NT 4 Workstation clients. I need to set it up to run the login script and map the Samba shares across the dialin connection as most of the remote users don't know ftp and telnet. At present, logging in with NT brings up the following message: NetBEUI CP reported error 733: The

(continued) Can I browse the network through PPP?
Hi, first of all, my apologies for the very technical and long nature of this message... I still do not give up with the problem I am having about not being able to browse the Network Neighborhood sometimes. My original post to the list was: >I am using Windows 95 dial-up networking to connect to a Samba box (the >Samba box is a PPP server). I am having problems to browse the Network

Dial in accounts (1883)
When the world was young, Ole Holm Nielsen carved some runes like this: > Date: Fri, 20 Nov 1998 12:03:59 +0100 > From: Ole Holm Nielsen <Ole.H.Nielsen@fysik.dtu.dk> > Subject: Re: Dial in accounts > Regarding remote network browsing: > We have had mixed success browsing Network Neighborhood from > PPP-connected Win95 PCs. Samba Wins server gives wrong address
Hello, I wonder if anyone knows if this is a limitation or a bug? We need to use a print service on a Win95 PC via smbclient. Smbclient uses wins and gets the wrong address. The wins.dat entries for the PC are: "OVERH2#03" 955147099 192.168.2.250 192.168.2.249 192.168.2.251 4R "OVERH2#20" 955147100 192.168.2.250 192.168.2.249 192.168.2.251 4R "OVERH2#00"

Access Win-95 Network Neighborhood via Linux PPP Server
I don't know if this is Samba related, but I figured those monitoring these lists were the experts at Win-95 networking and Linux/UNIX TCP/IP. I have a RedHat 5.0 i386 machine acting as a PPP server for Win-95 dialin users. The only Win-95 service running is TCP/IP (no IPX, no NETBEUI), so users can POP their mail, telnet to machines on the LAN, etc. The next hurdle is to allow Network

WINS multi-homed server resolution
I have a server here with 4 network interfaces (DEC Unix). All the Win95 clients are on the same 4 subnets as these 4 interfaces. One thing I noticed the other day is that the majority of the clients do not connect to the server's interface on the same subnet as the client. This is making unecessary use of our router. I'm wondering how I can force the clients to connect to the local

dialup Win95 -> samba
Thanks to the four people who replied to my original posting (appended below, subject "Win95 problem"). I've made progress but have now hit a new problem. The solution to the original problem (How do you make a "standalone" client "log on to the network"?) was simply to tick the "Server Type/Log on to network" checkbox in the dialup properties.

samba & win nt
Hi I have samba 2.0.2-1 running on a linux box having kernel 2.0.36. I have an NT 4 sp3 having a domain name RNDENT. I have included the linux box into the NT domain. I also have the smbpasswd file and cerated samba users. Samba is configured in such a way that even if NT is down samba takes over as the PDC and authenticates users. If NT is up, the server manager in NT shows the linux box as

WINS resolving problem
Hello, I have the following problem with NetBIOS name resolving using nmbd. Here's my configuration: Subnet A (domain A) contains Win95/98/NT and Samba nodes. They can see each other only via broadcast. None of these has WINS enabled. On subnet B (domain B) all nodes have WINS enabled and there is a local master browser for domain B on the net. The WINS server is a Linux 2.2 based router

Can I browse the network through PPP?
Hi, I am using Windows 95 dial-up networking to connect to a Samba box (the Samba box is a PPP server). I am having problems to browse the Network Neighborhood in Windows 95 and I do not why. The problem is random: sometimes I see computers and sometimes I don't. I have read the BROWSING.txt document and tried several smb.conf settings but nothing seems to help. When I connect using

static entries to WINS, how to do correct ?
Dear samba users, I'm trying to add static entries to a samba WINS server (samba-1.9.18p8-51.2). Therefore I have a file /etc/samba/lmhosts: -------------------------------------------- klimt.iwr KLIMT klee KLEE -------------------------------------------- and start nmb with: /usr/sbin/nmbd -d 3 -H /etc/samba/lmhosts The problem now is: Only if "wins proxy=yes"

Bug in RODBC ?
Dear lists, It seems that RODBC has a problem : when reading through ODBC from an Access table with missing values, *character* missing values are (correctly) reported as NA factor values. *Numeric* values, however, retain the value of the same variable in the previous row. My setup : R 1.1.1 under Win95, RODBC as compiled with the R Win CRAN distribution, MS Access 97. I just discovered this,

Samba & Win98
Hello everybody! this is my second post, as nobody answered my first question. I think it was too general, so this time I'll try to be more specific. I've installed a Samba box based on Slakware Linux 3.0 kernel 2.0.34, samba 1.9.18p8. This box is installed in a small local network with a NT4 Server and a Novell 4.01 Server. Clients are all Windows 95 except for two Win98 units. Samba
