Browsing broken in 1.9.18p5?
Hi all, I've just installed 1.9.18p5 (although I've just got the mail about 1.9.18p6, so I'll be putting that on now) and am having a problem with browsing... Browse list problem sorted
Hi, I posted a couple of times about a problem I was having with browsing, where smbclient (and other clients) showed nothing in the browse list, but wins.dat and browse.dat showed a list and the log showed the server becoming the domain and local master browser. Well, the problem turned out to be permissions on the .../samba/var and .../samba/var/locks directories; not allowing the

Problems with nmbd (samba 3.0.10)
Hi, I've installed a samba 3.0.10 (configured with --enable-cups, --withsmbmount, --with-acl-support) on a standard SUSE Linux 9.2-Distribution with Kernel 2.6.8-24.10-smp. The Samba-Server works as PDC since a month now and does it fine. But one big problem still exists: After about 10-20 hours after the start of smb+nmb the nmbd stops working. The symtoms are: No new users can login into

I try make W2K work as workgroup and connect to public share.

Samba and syslog
Hi, when starting samba it logs the following text to /var/log/messages, although I have added syslog only = no and syslog = 1. Samba's log file is /var/log/samba... How can I disable logging to syslog? Thanks! nmbd log error - register_name_response rejected?
Hello all, I'm in the process of moving over my Samba server (using LDAP). I believe everything is functioning correctly, except for this error I get when nmbd starts. Looking back at my old server, it was apparently doing this as well... so it may not even affect needed functionality. Still, I'd like to figure out why it's happening! If anyone has an idea, please let me

Question about Samba and a WINS server...
Hello everyone. I have a question about setting up a WINS server and to allow browsing across VPN tunnels. Let me give my setup... Running FreeBSD 4.9, with samba-3.0.4. Sole purpose right now is to just be a WINS server on the corporte network. We have 3 VPN tunnels setup at remote locations that will need to access the network and browse the corporate network. All the clients on the 3 branch

Possible bug in nmbd.
Hi, My nmbd daemon is dying with an internal error periodically. Samba version is 2.2.7a (I think the latest stable) but I've tried with the Samba package that came with my Linux distro (a Debian Woody) and it failed with the same messages too. Here goes the log.nmbd file: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Netbios nameserver version 2.2.7a

Re: Questions about Samba and a WINS server...update
Ok...trying to follow up here and see if someone can help me out, and let me know what is exactly hapening here. I have a few ideas, but I wanted to post here. As I said in my previous post, I am having problems browsing the corporate network from a Branch Office. Doing some testing, here is some output from my log.nmbd on my WINS server: [2004/06/25 12:20:45, 0] nmbd/nmbd.c:terminate(54)

NMBD unresponsive
Hi there, I have found a problem with my Samba server 3.0.28. This problem appeared suddenly without any changes in configuration or server update. NMBD becomes unresponsive in some minutes after startup with these options enabled: name resolve order = wins lmhosts hosts wins server = 172.25.8.86 172.25.8.84 Unresponsive means that it is not possible to connect to server, nmbd eats full

WINS-only server? nmbd?
Hi All, I'm setting up a central WINS server on campus here and would like to use a Samba machine to do this (we don't have enough 'stable' NT to do it with that, yet). I don't really want to run the whole of Samba on that particular machine (since there is no need [I don't need file/print serving] and to keep someone happy with regards security ;-). Can I just run

nmbd crashing as domain controller
Hi, We've been over this before many times, I think... it's about nmbd crashing in 1.9.17 (all patchlevels, AFAIK). Various suggestions have been suggested (cron jobs to kill off / restart nmbd every hour) but no fixes to nmbd itself (I think). Do the Samba team know of a fix (or could they do one; if they know what the problem is)? A new [fast] machine added to our network recently

Cross-subnet browsing with multiple domains/workgroups
Hi, I'm trying to set up browsing across subnets to provide an 'enterprise'-wide (sorry for the MS term ;-) browse list / Network Neighbourhood. I've read BROWSING.TXT, but I can't see how machines on different subnets in different domains/workgroups sync up (using Samba, anyway). On my local subnet, I've set up a clunky old Linux 386 (Samba 1.9.18p8) as the browse

Cannot login to PDC(FreeBSD boxen) from client(win XP)
I'm finally getting somewhere in setting up my FreeBSD PDC. I try and login via my XP client and now it gives me this odd message. "Cannot login because a duplicate user already exists on the network. Please goto control panel and system and change your computer name." Sorta paraphrased there, perhaps off by a word or two but that's pretty much what it tells me. I'm just

One account can access samba, another can't.
My wife and I each have our own workstation dual-booting WinXP and Gentoo Linux. We also have a third which runs Gentoo all the time. I wanted to set up samba on the third box and provide some extra storage space for both our Windows installs. It worked for a few days, then all of a sudden it stopped letting my account (michael) in while still letting my wife's account (amy) use the share.

Failed to connect NT workstation to Samba2.0alpha8
Hi Folks, I downloaded Samba2.0alpha8 from Samba site. Compiled it and installed it on the Solaris 2.6 unix box. I set up domain logon for both Windows 98 clients and WinNT. There is no problem logging on from Windows98 and the shares are all working alright. Then, I followed Samba NTDOM FAQ and add the NT workstation name into /etc/passwd and smbpasswd (using smbpasswd -a -m
