Tools to modify highlighted areas in pdf documents?
Dear R-Users, Are there any packages that enable the modifications of highlighted areas / annotations in pdf documents? It seems feasible - I have explored some R code (see below). However, I would rather avoid to reinvent the wheel. The problem: When highlighting pdf-documents with Microsoft Edge, the bounding box is sometimes misplaced, and quite ugly so. It also lacks the ability to draw

truly object oriented programming in R
Good morning! I recently implemented a KD tree in JAVA for faster kernel density estimation (part of the code follows). It went well. To hook it with R, however, has proved more difficult. My question is: is it possible to implement the algorithm in R? My impression seems to indicate no as the code requires a complete class-object framework that R does not support. But is there an R package or

S4 method dispatch and namespaces: why is default method selected
Hi, I ran into the following peculiarity involving S4 method dispatch and namespaces. I develop a package which have a namespace and which depends on 'pixmap' package, which itself does not have a namespace. Now, in my package I have a class which has a slot for objects from class "pixmap" and I want to have a "plot" method for this new class. Not to clutter the

prcomp : plotting only explanatory axis arrows
Dear all, I have a very large dataset (1712351 , 20) and would like to plot only the arrows that represent the contribution of each variables. On the sample below I woild like to plot only the explanatory variables (Murder, Assault..) and not the sites. prcomp(USArrests) # inappropriate prcomp(USArrests, scale = TRUE) prcomp(~ Murder + Assault + Rape, data = USArrests, scale = TRUE)

ggmap crash
Not sure if this is the right place to report this, but: Am using ggmap to generate a map of a bounding box from 161 latitude/longitude pairs and the code crashes R (in ess). Data is at http://analysis.d8u.us/~hdiwan/plotSource.csv and the code to read it is below. I'm not sure if ess, emacs, ggmap, R, or my laptop is to blame. Here's the code: > rmc <-

arrows()/log scale/clipping (?) (PR#1039)
arrows() seems to hang when either x or y scale of the plot is logarithmic and the arrows requested go beyond the plot (by more than a certain amount). I didn't go into C code to find it, but here's a function that exercises the bug a bit ... arrow.bug2 <- function(y0=1,y1=10,log="y") { plot(c(0.1,1),c(1,10),log=log) arrows(x0=0.5, y0=y0, x1=0.5,

Help: add arrows on a filled.contour figure
Dear All I would like to use filled.contour to plot something with arrows on it. I did it in this way: filled.contour(1:nx,1:nz,u,col=gray(rev((0:20/20)))) for (j in zseq ) for (i in xseq) arrows(i, j, i+u[i,j],j+w[i,j],length=angleng,angle=angarrow,code=2, lwd=1,col="black") The peoblem is that the arrows use the whole device area, including the key on the right hand side of the

Add arrows to a filled.contour margin
Hi, I try to put an arrow to a filled.contour plot. I make this: filled.contour(volcano, color = terrain.colors,key.axes=F) arrows(0.95,0,0.95,1,lwd=2) This work, but the problem is that I find the coordinates at random try, for other graphic with other scale is other fight with coordinates. Anybody know a more easy or more generalized way to make this? Somethink like this

clicking on plot and recording XY coords
Dear all, I need to run a interactive procedure where the user will need click on the screen (over a XY plot) and I need to record the XY coordinate which the user clicked. Roughly I wrote a short code below. You see that I suppose that the user will choose four coordinates inside the region of intersection between three segmentes. On each click, I would like to record the position clicked in a

How to add a new plot in the same graph using add=T at the command plot?
Hi, there! I'm having kind this same problem https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-help/2008-October/178221.html but I want to display another plot of my data, which is a point with two arrows indicating confidence interval, in the same graph that I've just plotted another, but the "add=T" is not functioning, I'm getting the same error Warning messages: 1: In plot.window(...)

seeing an S4 method, not using it
Dear list, here is a problem I met when trying to use a method for an S4 object, without loading the package in which the method was defined. I do not know if this is a bug, or a mistake of mine. Normally, I think the package in which the appropriate method is defined is loaded automatically when calling the method. The problem is that if the package is indeed loaded automatically, the

drawing arrows
Hi, I would like to draw arrows in a classic 2D plot. Which package should I use? is there R base functions that do job? On google, I could not find any useful discussion about this topic, except a link to the function 'grid.arrows' of the grid package. My problem is I would like to draw arrows at the edge of circles drawn by the 'symbols' function. Maybe there is already a

plotting arrows with different colors and varying head size
Dear list, I would like to plot arrows with different colors according to arrow length, and also (if possible) with head size proportional to arrow length. The idea is to make a quiver-like plot of matlab with wind speed data. So far, I´ve been able to use different colors, but I need to find a more efficient way to recode arrow length intervals into colors. On the contrary, I can't define

arrows and points for error bars
Hello everyone, I have successfully made an error bar graph using the points() command with the arrows() command to maually add on the standard errors. However, one slightly annoying feature of using this method is that the points dont line up exactly with the arrows (if you look carefully the points are never perfectly in the centre of the arrow), even when you move the arrows around in an

Trying to rename spatial pts data frame slot that isn't a slot()
Dear List, I am analyzing the home range area of fish and seem to have lost the individuals ID names during my manipulations, and can't find out how to rename them. I calculated the MCP of the fish using mcp() in Adehabitat. MCP's were converted to spatial points data frame and exported to qGIS for manipulations. At this point the ID names were lost. I brought the manipulated

error with bbox for k12hat (splancs) bivarite k-function
Hello, I am trying to conduct a bi-variate ripley's k using the k12hat function in the splancs package (found here http://rss.acs.unt.edu/Rdoc/library/splancs/html/k12hat.html). Although, I receive an error when getting to the bboxx part of the code: poly <- list(x=c(fire4$X, nar4$X), y=c(fire4$Y, nar4$Y)) plot(seq(5,80,5), sqrt(k12hat(fire4), as.points(nar4),
