Archlinux port of libguestfs
Hello, I am looking into porting libguestfs to Archlinux, as I understand it
I need to add a stanza to the if/else statement in the
appliance/make.sh.into handle the image creation for ArchLinux.
But I am wondering, the image used in the binary libguestfs is much larger
than the one in the fedora libguestfs, and they appear to be packaged as
initramfs images.
So my question is this, should I

guestmount - unable to get device geometry
Hi,
i am trying to use libguestfs (libvirt/kvm etc) into archlinux.
But it seems that i am keep getting this error
warning: Unable to get device geometry for /var/tmp/guestfs.NwkQVJ/root
In the attached file, i've written some debug info.
If someone can give me some pointer, i would appreciate it

Rethinking appliance building
I spent the last couple of days rethinking how we go about building
the appliance, and the difficulties we have porting that to other
Linux distros. I've come up with a much better way that works better
and faster on (so far) Fedora and Debian (probably on Ubuntu too, not
tried it), and should be much simpler to port to other distros.
The current way is to do:

virt-install with --channel option inquiry
hi, virt guys,
This is Hongqing from Fedroa QA team. I try to forward the guest installation logs to host with virtio.
I have used virsh edit <guestName> to add a channel, it works fine.
I think it would be better if I can initialize it when I create the guest using virt-install,
and virt-install also offers the option, I have tried below, but it does not work.

[PATCH] Change fallback name for external supermin helper
Use basename of external helper instead of 'no' for external supermin
helpers. This gives a clear error messages what binary is actually
missing, and it is now possible to install the missing package without
recompiling libguestfs. In addition its now also possible to use private
builds of supermin (if they are in PATH) with a given libguestfs binary
package.

febootstrap: no ext2 root device found
Hello-
I've recently upgraded from OEL 6.4 to OEL 6.8. Infiniband Hardware
installed on the server prevents me from upgrading the OS version any
higher.
Kernel Version:
Oracle Linux Server Red Hat Compatible Kernel (2.6.32-642.el6.x86_64)
Since the upgrade, there have been problems with libguestfs-tools hanging,
then timing out.
I'd like to use the newest version of

Guestfish errors (Running in VirtualBox)
Hi All,
I am trying to run guestfish inside an Ubuntu instance running in VirtualBox. I'm running into problems, and my first question, is this setup even possible?
I compiled and installed libguestfs-1.8.4.
Running libguestfs-test-tool fails with the following output.
Would appreciate any advice,

Building PXE Bootable images using the libguestfs toolchain
As part of the oVirt Node[1] project, I'm going to P.O.C. a version of
the node using febootstrap 2.x instead of livecd-creator. The main
reasons in doing this is for allowing a r/w root filesystem without
some hacky overlayfs and just to see if it can be done. On IRC,
rwmjones mentioned a few issues he ran into with febootstrap 2.x where
some rpms had %post scripts which aren't really

Issues with p2v & virt-v2v Windows
It looks to me that the windows 2008 image I am attempting to convert is
not being detected as windows but is being updated as a Linux system.
When PXE booted the server with the p2v image I ended up with this
error:
Failed to launch guestfs appliance. Try running again with
LIBGUESTFS_DEBUG=1 for more information
The system image transferred and I was able to create an XML file to

[PATCH 1/2] Add -u and -g options to febootstrap-supermin-helper
Bash automatically resets euid to uid when it executes. This can mean that the
effective user id of a program at the point it calls febootstrap-supermin-helper
can be lost if any part of execution chain involved bash. This in turn can
result in:
* the generation of an incorrect checksum, which contains the uid.
* the generation of supermin files with differing owners
The -u and -g options allow

virsh iface-list () - function is not supported
Hi,
I am using KVM hypervisor on Ubuntu 12.04 (libvirt-0.9.8). The call to list
the interfaces seem to be failing on this version of libvirt as seen below.
virsh # iface-list
error: Failed to list active interfaces
error: this function is not supported by the connection driver:

I have seen this issue with libvirt 0.9.2 as well, which seemed to be
working in 0.9.4

Support for gzipped kernel mods
After my wonderful experience with febootstrap and and gzipped kernel
modules I just wanted to post a little information about it.
febootstrap uses insmod, it seems because insmod is required for building
the initrd, while modprobe can read in gzipped kernel modules, insmod
cannot. This means that there are two solutions to the problem, one would be
to make febootstrap copy all of the modules to
