Sound Stutters and Sputters then dies
Hey Y'all,
Recently my sound has been misbehaving. The issue exists when I play
sound using Rhythmbox, Totem Movie Player, or even Youtube video in
Firefox or Chrome. The sound stutters and drops out. Sounds very
rough. On Youtube the sound will eventually just die and can not be
restarted until the browser is shut down and restarted.
I've had issues related to Repo Forge

Pulse audo in 1.3.25+
So I used to use the winepulse patch for wine. (Yes I like pulse). But
since 1.3.25+ uses mmdevapi for audio, that patch no longer works. That
author points to a wine multimedia git, however, after installing that I
have no more sound in any wine application, and the winecfg test audio says
audio failed. How do I get this new sound server working in wine?

I use Wine for play World of Warcraft, that support on Windows, 6 channel sounds mixing software.
On Ubuntu 8.04 and Wine i get only stereo output.
I've tried to do this .asoundrc for "force" use on Wine, of 6channels and I don't get any sound.
Code:
pcm.!default {
type dmix
ipc_key 1024
ipc_key_add_uid false # let multiple users share

WINE on FreeBSD: StarCraft 'stuttering'
Hello list and FreeBSD maintainer,
I -really- appreciate the fact that the major threading issues with FreeBSD
and WINE have been resolved. I'd hate to see FreeBSD lose an application with
such great potential.
Anyway, I've recently taken an interest in WINE for use with gaming on FreeBSD
(once again). I managed to get StarCraft installed with it and running.
However, there's a

Re: Wine and pulse audio
Using ALSA or OSS instead of PulseAudio is not actual at all. Its si much problems using ALSA and OSS with duplex sound thru wine and native linux-apllications.
And problems comes when trying to use things like mumble and playing a game with wine.
The pulseaudio-patch which was added for Wine versions up to 1.3.28 (not official i think), has been working just perfect.
I tried 1.3.34 which

Pulse AO plugin priority
Just a quick note that the priority in the Pulse AO
plugin (ao/src/plugins/pulse/ao_pulse.c) should be
changed from 41 to 50 (in the ao_pulse_info struct).
Since the plugin now ships as part of libao, its
priority should be a factor of 5, as that's how I
designed the plugin priority system. Plugins that
ship with libao should be a factor of 5, so that 3rd
party plugins can fit in between

[Flac-users] Stuttering over NFS & Samba
I've got an Allwell set-top box
(http://www.gctglobal.com/Products/Set_Top_Box/set_top_box_0.html)
connected to my entertainment center (stereo + TV) running a 2.4.17
kernel. I'm eagerly looking forward to running Boss Ogg
(http://bossogg.sourceforge.net/) on it to play my music collection
encoded in FLAC. None of my music files are on the set-top box, they're

Wine and pulse audio
I know that wine currently doesn't support the pulse audio, but can we expect this feature in upcomming versions?
While I used other audio drivers I had a lot of sound problems with other applications, pulse audio works perfectly so it would be nice to add a support for it.
Cheers!

stuttering in speex 1.1.11
Hi,
I've been getting reports of stuttering audio in my VoIP application that uses Speex 1.1.11. Since I haven't had this report with previous versions of Speex I was wondering if one of the bug fixes in 1.1.12 solves a bug which causes the stuttering. To me the stuttering report sounds like the decoder state that speex uses gets messed up. Some info, I use the floating point version of

[Flac-users] Stuttering over NFS & Samba
hi Neologism,
i can play flac from my server to my workstation via nfs. i have a 100BaseT
line as well. i only get stuttering when i'm copying files at the same time
as listening. i'm using xmms.
perhaps something is not set up correctly. maybe the unit doesn't have enough
processing power to deal with the bandwidth usage (i am unfamiliar with the
unit though).
anyway just thought

System Stutters/Skips with wine Under Load
Hello. I am hoping someone can help with a problem I am having. I am running the Windows folding at home client through wine. This app is very load intensive and performs many scientific calculations. It consumes 100% of all six cores in my system. However, I run it with a "nice" level of 19 so that it only uses idle cycles.
Unfortunately, with this setup, my system consistently

pulseaudio/wine question
When people have audio trouble with programs in wine the first
suggestion is always to remove pulseaudio, I'm not questing that - it
often fixes the problem, but I do wonder if there are plans to make wine
and pulseaudio work better together?
Each new version of the major Linux distros seems to make pulse harder
and harder to remove without messing up the system. Outside of wine
pulse is

World of Warcraft freezes and stutters periodically
Hi,
When I load World of Warcraft the CPU jumps from an average of 10-15% up to 100% and stays there pretty constantly whilst playing. This doesn't seem to affect gameplay most of the time (and I understand it may be relatively normal behaviour for running games under Wine), but occasionally I get a complete lock up of the game for about 3 seconds. The game screen freezes completely and the

Why not pulseaudio?
Pulseaudio works great in wine using the modified wine from the Neill Aldur ppa. Tried everything else (padsp, pasuspender, blah) and nothing would work reliably. Some crashes when another application outputs sound, sometimes the sound does not work at all, sometimes it is awfully slow or with latency varying while recording, leading to unpredictable offsets in recorded files.
Using pulseaudio

No Sound in Wine - disable / remove pulseaudio
Wine requires direct access to sound device(s) to make sound. This is true for both ALSA and OSS driver back-ends. However most sound servers are not compatible with neither of these back-ends. This also true about pulse-audio - it is not fully compatible with Wine.
If you using new distro (Fedora 8, Ubuntu 8.04, SuSE 11) and do not have sound you should:
1. Report problem to your distro support

Alsa audio -- FYI update
Alsa audio started working a couple of days ago with wine and then stopped working yesterday.
Here is my experience.
Pulseaudio cannot be removed any more. So I reinstalled the system and left it there.
I compiled wine git and installed, and then installed DNS 10.
Then I re-booted, ran killall pulseaudio in terminal, and started the program with winecfg's sound set to alsa.
