Games performance with wine
I've been using Linux Ubuntu for a few days, but I already love it :) However, when I'm running windows games under wine, I get less than 10fps, while under windows they work really fast. I have installed latest Nvidia drivers from ubuntu repositories and Direct X 9c under wine (yes, dxdiag works, and it passes all the tests). I have also seen on youtube, that many people don't have

Nothing seems to work when using Wine.
Hello, I downloaded Wine 1.0.0 today for Ubuntu 8.04, but nothing seems to work like it should. I've tried to install several games, none of them works, and they all do one of the following: 1) It looks like it's loading like it should, but then the screen tears apart and I see a lot of blue lines which are about 5 millimeters thick on my screen. This makes it impossible to do anything.

Mouse focus in Wine
Hi, If I play a game in Wine - either Caesar III or Half Life come to mind right now - they seem to work better for me in a windowed setup where the game is not full screen and I can still see the rest of my Gnome desktop in the background. Caesar III plays well under Cedega or Wine, HL much better under Cedega, but the point being that I've tried both. The frustration I've had is

Wine broke my WindowsXP (can't login)
Hi, I recently wanted to try out the new 0.9.53 version (previously I had 0.9.35 installed), so I downloaded it from http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/archive/index.html (32-bit for Ubuntu Edgy, though I'm on x86_64) and installed it (did dpkg -r wine before), which went fine. Then I went on trying out some programs, but upon starting (say, winecfg), it filled the screen with messages like

wine upgrade 1.1.9 broke program
I have a Ubunu 8.04.1 system that has been running a package under wine with no problems since last June. A few days ago I ran the software upgrade program and it moved wine from 1.1.7 to 1.1.9 and this package no longer works. When the program starts it needs to contact a server and that portion fails. Can someone tell me how to return to the 1.1.7 version of wine. Or alternatively point me at

:( Orange Box? Please?
I've heard that it's possible to run Orange Box on WINE. I've tried several tutorials but can't get it to work - I got it all to install, and Steam pops up no problem, but the games crash at the loading screen and bring me back to my desktop. I even tried the original Half-Life - does the same thing. I tried using the command line to see if there would be any error or debug

Half-Life + Wine (and other programs I suppose...) Recommendation!!!
Ive tried very hard to get Half-Life to run on my Linux box...and I have finally managed to get it to work...the problem (the BIG problem) was that I was trying to use an installed version of windows as the basis of wine. It worked fine with most programs...but not Half-Life and some other games... My recommendation is that you dont use a preinstalled version of windows as the basis of a wine

Preventing Wine from creating shortcuts
Hey, I'm new to the forums but by no means a noob but it's come to the point lately where I'm creating scripts (bash mixed with autoit) where I create a new bottle, silently install the program and then do any fixes etc in the script making it all completely automated (as i tend to re-install my system a lot) The issue I'm having though is the shortcuts wine creates Desktop

Half-Life 2 crashing with Wine 1.1.43 on Ubuntu 10.4
Hey guys, I'm new to this forum and also to Linux. I hope this problem is not caused by my lack of knowledge, but I would guess not. Hopefully^^. As the title says, I try to play Half-Life 2 with Wine, which is listed as platinum in the Appdb, so I expected no problems. But unfortunately, the game is crashing when I want to start a new game. I see the loading bar filling, but when it's

Screen resolution Problem
Hi all This is my first post and I get the feeling that it will be a very easy one to fix and I will kick myself when I hear it but here it goes. I have installed wine 1.0 on my Ubuntu HH desktop no problems with install etc. However when I try to use wine i.e. configure or use a program the wine interface has a font size that is HUGE and I cannot change these settings i.e. ctrl scroll etc. I

Civ 4 time victory in 2 minutes
Initially the bottom half of the screen was cut off for civilization 4 and It seems to have corrected itself now, for unknown reasons. Now it keeps giving the computer opponents time victories within a few minutes. Why is it doing that? And how do i correct it?

winecfg screen size
I have been trying to get wine up and running for some time. I work with the Debian Linux system with a KDE Desktop. Debian is supplying version 1.0.1 . I just installed the .deb file from the Wine website which is version 1.1.24. That is the highest version available for the Debian system. All of the versions that I have tried have the same thing wrong with the graphic interface. I will use

Sound skips in all games since Wine 1.1.6
In 1.1.5 the sound/music in games played allright. Since 1.1.6 it skips badly - plays for a couple of seconds, then stops for half a second, then plays again, then skips and so on. Happens on every game on Steam - Team Fortress 2, Everyday Shooter, Peggle Extreme - and also without Steam - Icy Tower. I have Razer Barracuda AC-1 sound card. I've found that in Winecfg when I choose Alsa driver

A problem of splitting the right screen in 3 or more independent vertical boxes:
Hi, Based on par function, I can split the screen into two parts left and right. I wish x occupies the half left screen, and all plants occupy half right screen, which happens right now. But I wish the right screen, to be split in 3 or more vertical parts where each pair of the same type of plant, are together in its own block of boxplot, because each plant has its own unit of measure.
