Linux Editor
Hi Everyone, I recently have started using R again on a Linux box after spending several years on a Mac. Last I checked, the best way to use R was through EMACS using something like ESS. I remember that being serviceable but not always the most convenient. Is there anything comparable to the mac version of R with its built in console, editor, etc?? thanks! -- View this message in context:

Text file encoding
I'm working with some people using apple laptops. When we share text files (latex files), I reach in an encoding problem on our CentOS laptops and desktops. In my favorite editor, "?" is "<8e>", "?" is "<88>" etc... Of course, I can change the encoding with iconv: iconv -f MACINTOSH -t ISO8859-15 file.bib.mac >file.bib iconv -f

Most used R editors
Hi, I am a little lonely as R users in my group. So, I would like to know which editor is the most used in the R community. This post is some kind of survey. Personally, I use Emacs with ESS, It permits to : - open more than one R session - split the emacs editor as many part as you want. - use a lot of keybindings. ... I also tried Rkwards, Scilab (windows), JGR etc... but they are not

Is this the normal behavior now? Cutting text in gedit and pasting it into the terminal needs that the source application stays running? -- Leon

rt3 3.8.2 latest version as rpm for C5?
Hi, I know, epel has rt3 in version 3.6.x. And - sadly - for version 3.8.x the perl module dependencies are way ahead of what I can find in epel or rpmforge. But we really need some of the 3.8.x series features. So has anybody maybe built those modules + rt3 v3.8.x for C5? Any hint? I really do not want to install f10. :O Thx Rainer

Outliner plugin for editor
I am currently running not only Geany (on CentOS and on Windows) but also Gedit on CentOS, much of the use is as markdown-editors being a recent convert to this language. I would, however, also like to be able to essentially use it as an outliner - remember the old DOS outliners that were great for creating document outlines? It would have been perfect had I been able to fold and unfold sections

Outliner plugin for editor
Thank you. Ideally, however, I would like to continue using Geany or gedit. I have found a "gnome outliner" on the 'net but that seems not have been updated for a very long time... I have installed the kate editor on Centos 6.7 but it seems to be a very old version, 3.3.4, installed as part of kdesdk. On Centos 7 I can simply run 'yum install kate' but, alas, not on Centos 6. What is the recommended way of updating kate on Centos 6? Thank you.

Editplus bug?
As this is my first post here, I'd like to thank you all for your hard work on Wine. It's great having CS2 working so well. I just installed Editplus in wine and have noticed an issue int he syntax highlighting. An opening quote changes the text color and closing it ends the syntax highlight. However opening a quote and hitting return also ends the syntax highlighting even if the quote

Unable to open most files within Linux from a windows share
I am trying to open files on my Linux box from a windows share. I can browse to the directory, see the files, copy them to my computer, edit them, save them and copy the files back (using Nautilus). I can open a text file from the windows share with Gedit. I can not open a text file with Kate: error: The file or folder smb://pastor/SHARED FILES/text.txt does not exist. I can not open an .xls

Full_Name: Vaidotas Zemlys Version: 2.1.1 OS: Ubuntu 05.10 Submission from: (NULL) (213.197.173.50) Hi, This is really a feature request, not a bug. I wrote the mail to R-devel, but nobody answered it. I use Gnome on my computer and sometimes I use its default text editor gedit. It uses gtksourceview library for syntax highlighting. I decided that it would be nice if gedit supported R

Wysiwyg html editor for note taking
I am looking for a wsyiwyg html editor for note taking as I build up a system to note what I am doing. I typically just use gedit, but this system's notes are getting complex, and using code tabs, lists, and the like would make it more enduring. I am looking at lonote on my F17 notebook, but I would like to do the note taking directly on the Centos system. Just basic html. Image

Which KDE editor to edit Asterisk config files ?
Hi, New to Kubuntu and Linux, I'm looking for a syntax-enabled text editor with which I could easily edit Asterisk config files. It seems Kate provide this type of service but I couldn't find anything specific to Asterisk (unlike vim) What's your advice ? kate editor for R
Like kile for LaTeX, Linux/KDE's kate editor is an excellent editor for R, with easy code submission to a running R process. Syntax highlighting is good. I have not been able to figure out two things: - how to automatically reformat a line or region of text using good indentation rules (Emacs/ESS make this so easy by just hitting Tab while the cursor is in a line, or highlighting a

best editor for .R files
Which is the best editor for .R files? I currently use kate on my linux as it has R highlighting and allows me to split the window into two: in one I edit the .R file and in the other I have a shell so I run R and can easily copy and paste the code. There are some features that I don't like and I am having a look on some alternatives. I've heard wonders of emacs with ess but I am a
