Syslinux vmlinuz name limitation?
Hello,
I'm using syslinux-3.70 and apparently it doesn't allow me to use different names for vmlinuz and initrd.gz.
If I use a name like vmlinuz-nx08 in the config file syslinux seem to be reloading everytime I try to boot. If I use vmlinuz and initrd-nx08.gz syslinux complains that it can't find the file even though it's there. I also tested this from the boot prompt and the

stack overflow
Hi,
I've got a fileserver that runs Centos 5.2. It's been stable
otherwise stable for maybe a year or more, and now it's crashed three
times since Saturday. The first two times the computer was completely
unresponsive, and there was nothing on the console, and nothing in the
logs. I was beginning to suspect hardware, (esp. RAM, PSU, or maybe a
failed fan)

handling NA by mean replacement
Hello
I am sorry fuch such a stupid question. Suppose I have a table of data having a
lot of NAs and I want to replace those NAs by the mean of the column before NA
replacement. How is it possible to do that efficiently ?
Thanks in advance,
Julie

NFS, nested ZFS filesystems and ownership
Hello,
I''m sure there is a simple solution, but I am unable to figure this one out.
Assuming I have tank/fs, tank/fs/fs1, tank/fs/fs2, and I set sharenfs=on for
tank/fs (child filesystems are inheriting it as well), and I chown
user:group /tank/fs, /tank/fs/fs1 and /tank/fs/fs2, I see:
ls -la /tank/fs
user:group .
user:group fs1
user:group fs2
user:group some_other_file

Samba 3.3.4-31 ssh/winbind login failure
Folks,
Got an odd one here that's had me scratching my head for a few days! Samba
3.3.4-31 from SuSE's RedHat repository, RHEL5 on x86.
Compiled OK once I'd worked out how to force a build on the libraries I
needed, I also added the code back in to support the 'winbind: ignore
domains' directive in smb.conf. Discovered the hard way that 'make install'
doesn't

tapply problem
Hello everybody.
I have a question that has stumped me and the usual "apply" tricks
don't seem to work. I run a course where each student's performance
is marked by one or more assessors.
I have a data frame containing students' names, assessors' names and
their marks, arranged as follows:

Samba on Backup Server + Auth Q
Guys,
Quick Question with Long Background :-)
File server (FS1)
Backup of File Server (FS2)
Previously, the arrangement is I rsync copies of the files from FS1 to
FS2 every-night and this box FS2 is only accessible via SSH and nothing
else.
So, in the event of file curruption, they will have to contact me with
details and I will try to fish out the files.
Now, to make this easier, I've

Low Battery event not occurring
Hi Everyone,
New to the list. Thanks in advance for any assistance you are able to provide.
I have a TrippLite SMART2200RM2UN UPS. I have installed and configured NUT as instructed on the website, and am able to monitor the status of the UPS without much problem. The only problem I am seeing is that I cannot get the machine to actually send a Low Battery ( LB ) signal.

MySQL fails with tablespace on OCFS2
I have set up an cluster with ocfs2 on top of drbd in primary/primary mode.
As long as the datadir is in /var/lib/mysql, everything works fine.
But as soon as I put the datadir on the ocfs2 filesystem

Unable to map the group
Hi All,
I am using Samba 3.2.11 on sles 10. I have create a Unix group 'grp1' and
mapped it to a ntgroup "Group One". Unix group 'grp1' has one user i.e
'usr1'. 'net groupmap' command show the mapping with correct SID and gid
value. Please, have a look here.
# cat /etc/group | grep grp1

File Locking
Hi,
I'm running smbd 2.2.8. I'm a little green when it comes to file locking
with samba.
I have two users that access a single data file on a FreeBSD box. It's a
moneydance data file and obviously it gets messed-up if two users are
writing to it at the same time. Is there a way with samba to stop a second
instance of the file from being opened, something like a "File In

Another State Of The Punctuation Mark question - Vonage
There was a flurry of "Vonage is going to unlock SIP" activity last
year; did anything productive ever come of it?
Are *you* using your Vonage lines directly into Asterisk?
In lieu of that, for a 4 line small business that doesn't need to pay
Vonage $150 a month, who? Broadvoice? Someone else?
I'm a touch unimpressed with the fact that BV's website *won't quote

How to delegate filesystems from different pools to non-global zone
I''m trying to add filesystems from two different pools to a zone but can''t seem to find any mention of how to do this in the docs.
I tried this but the second set overwrites the first one.
add dataset
set name=pool1/fs1
set name=pool2/fs2
end
Is this possible or do I need to use different syntax?

Problem with the grep function
Let me present to you my problem :
I have a character vector x and I would like to obtain the indices of the
elements of
this vector that yielded exactly a match.
For example, x=nom, pattern="b", I would to obtain 2 because "b" is on the
second position.
First program :
nom <- c("a","b","ab")
grep("b",nom)

Hi folks
I hope someone might be able to shed some light on a problem that I am experiencing with
a Samba server. I installed this server about 2 and a half years ago on a client's site.
The server has been running fine. We are now experiencing two problems which according
to the client occured overnight.
The first problem started about a week and a half ago when they found that when trying

login fails when username has apostrophe
Hi
I've added the apostrophe character to auth_username_chars however
authentication still fails. I'm using LDAP with the following details:
dovecot version 1.1.7
openldap client library 2.4.11
With auth_verbose = yes and auth_debug = yes set I see the following in
the logs. Note the initial escaped apostrophe and the subsequent escaped
escape in the filter!

"Fixing the Caller-ID Problem", by John Todd for O'ReillyNet
This seems like a piece members of this list would find interesting...
===
There is growing concern over the interaction of VoIP systems
with the legacy PSTN, and the transmission of caller identity
data--most notably, Caller ID on the PSTN. It is not always
possible, or obvious how, to handle Caller ID data when moving
to or from VoIP and the PSTN networks. There are even business
