Centos, Samba , WIN7
Hi Folks,
I've fresh installed CentOS 5.5 and realized, that Samba is in version
3.0.33-3.
Is it possible to conect WIN7 in a Samba-Dom?ne with this version?
And I've read abaut RHEL 5.6 with samba 3.5.4.
Can I expect, that this version is included in CentOS 5.6?
And can I get this version with yum-update?
Thx

Guest access broken for Win7 between 3.3.8 and 3.5.4?
I've been running samba on RHEL5 for the past couple of years with XP
clients. Late last year, in order to support new Win7 clients, I upgraded
from samba-3.0.33 packages to samba3x-3.3.8 (from the Red Hat-managed
configuration tree) and after some struggles got everything working. But now
after upgrading to samba3x-3.5.4 I am only able to connect as a known user
and not as a guest.

Changing from samba 3.0.33 to Samba 3,6,6
Hi Folks, ?I'd like to change from Samba 3.0.33 to 3.6.6.
Reason: WINDOWS 7 and PDC
Is something to consider when changing (config-Files or so on)?
Have I to uninstall Samba 3.0.33 before or just run an update?
Thx for hints.

replacement for start-stop-daemon on CentOS
Hi Folks,
I'd like to use "start-stop-daemon" on my centos-machine.
I know , it's debian-like.
But I can't find "startproc" on my machine nor in the repos.
What is the CentOS-replacement for "start-stop-daemon"?
Thx
Timothy
P.S. I found a start-stop-daemon.c script - but how to compile it?
gcc start-stop-daemon.c
ends in much errors.

Second printer is from far (Cupsd) in the network.
Works well.
But what's about the local printer?
Any hints?
Thx

NFS and Firewall
Hi Folks,
I'm using VMWare on a Linux Host (CentOS) with a Linux-Guest Sidux).
And I'd like to use NFS.
Furthermore I'd like to use the Firewall in CentOS with this little GUI.
If I activate this firewall then my Guest says "no route to host" on mounting
nfs.
Firewall disabled -> no problem occurs.
Is there a solution to use firewall _and_ nfs ?
Please, no iptables

libsmbclient: poor performance using SMB2/3
Hello,
I use libsmbclient from Python, using pysmbc: https://pypi.python.org/pypi/pysmbc (its a very thin wrapper around libsmbclient).
When setting "client max protocol" in smb.conf to SMB2 (or higher), libsmbclient then switches to SMB2 if the server supports it. Performance of opendir() remains much the same, but calling stat() is about 40 times slower when using SMB2.

FW: What version started building libsmbclient.so?
Ok, I have been doing a lot of reading and saw many references to samba
2.2.8a and libsmbclient.so and I thought that I would just go ahead and
download, compile and install it. After going through configure, the make
and make install, I still don't have a libsmbclient.so file to link my
program to. I have never come across this before, there has always been a
.so file created from any of
