su/sudo using ssh auth
To the openssh and sudo developer mailing lists:
Ssh has a key agent allowing authentication to remote hosts without
entering your password/passphrase again and again, which is very
convenient. I think the 'su', 'sudo', and similiar commands could benefit
from this idea and mechanism. I don't have the necessary expertise in
cryptology to do this myself so I just want to throw

Here is a sample of running iostat on a server that has a LUN from a SAN with multiple paths. I am specifying a device list that just grabs the bits related to the multi path device:

ZFS receive issue running multiple receives and rollbacks
Hi, all,
Environment: S10U3 running as VMWare Workstation 6 guest; Fedora 7 is
the VMWare host, 1 GB RAM
I''m creating a solution in which I need to be able to save off state on
one host, then restore it on another. I''m using ZFS snapshots with ZFS
receive and it''s all working fine, except for some strange behavior when
I perform multiple rollbacks and receives.

sudo doing DNS lookup
Hi,
I have a confusing problem. I have two centos 5,5 boxes. Both have
sudo.i386 1.7.2p1-9.el5_5
installed
I am using the same sudoers file, but the one on box A keeps trying to
do DNS lookups
while the one on box B does not. How do I disable this DNS lookup?
Thanks for any info.

Dear Shorewall Users, having noticed that the request for a WebGUI is

If you want to stream at any bandwidth other than what the files were
recorded at, you'll need to re-encode using lame (or another codec). If you
rip the files at the same bandwidth you'll be streaming at, you won't need
it.

Latest sudo update for 5.8 breaks postgresql
Hello,
The latest update to sudo (sudo-1.7.2p1-14.el5_8.2) breaks postgresql.
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=846631
It might break other services that rely on access to /etc/nsswitch.conf
too. Assuming you have a "sudoers" line in /etc/nsswitch.conf that file
will be recreated with incorrect file permissions.
After having had issues with selinux permissions on that

Feature Request: Control over IMP IDLE 'OK Still Here' message timings
Hi all,
I would like to make a feature request regarding IMAP Idle support.
Currently when a client triggers Idle support, Dovecot then sends 'OK
Still Here' messages every 2 minutes. This is apparently to prevent
NAT systems killing the tcp connection and disconnecting the client.
However, while this may be fine for desktop clients, this rapidly
drains the battery life of mobile

off topic: info on mp3 files
hi,
this is way off topic, but maybe someone can help...
i'm looking for a script or prog that gives me info
on a mp3-file, like what mpg123 shows when starting up
plus some tech details like size, time, frequency etc.
i've tried perl-MP3-Info, but it doesn't know about
album, title, artist etc.
i want to use it for fetching as much info as possible
from a file into a database. any

automatic gain control
Sounds like you need to fix the problem at the source first: balancing the
levels going *into* your mixing board so that they're not all over the place
coming out. You'll never fix that with any hardware or software device.
I use a program called ecasound to do software dynamics processing, but
you'd have to hack liveice pretty extensively to use it in that situation.

distributing selinux policy module
Using audit2allow, I was able to create a policy module for
selinux:
audit2allow -i /var/log/audit/audit.log -M mysqld
(creates mysqld.pp and mysqld.te)
I want to distribute this to all my puppet clients.
I can easily put this file in
/etc/selinux/targeted/modules/active/modules
But even after reboot, although I can see the module listed:
semodule -l
... it doesn''t seem to actually
