inittab - huh what's it good for?
We run a CentOS-5 based hylafax server with external serial modems. We are transitioning to an Asterisk system using IAXmodem running on CentOS-6. On the CentOS-5 system to start the fax modems we added these lines to inittab: # Add fax lines and always ALWAYS run "telinit q" after making a change. fax1:2345:respawn:/usr/sbin/faxgetty ttyS0 fax2:2345:respawn:/usr/sbin/faxgetty ttyS1

error message: INIT: Id "s0" respawning toofast:disable for 5 minutes
Guys (and Gals), FYI I also have the *same* message here. Wonder is it is related to my Compaq D500 Space Saver PIV 1.7 or the fact that I don't yet have a modem card in the * box. (Please don't shoot me, did try Google first) Many thanks, Wagner Gimenes -----Original Message----- From: asterisk-users-bounces@lists.digium.com [mailto:asterisk-users-bounces@lists.digium.com] On Behalf

Shutdown script not being run
I've got an odd problem. My server will not shutdown normally because the AoE driver is not being shut down properly. While investigating the problem, I found that the aoe script is apparently not being called for shutdown. I have been able to duplicate this with a brand new test script. My test script is just a simple file that echos back the start or stop command: #!/bin/bash #

Are these steps for re-installing Gnome correct/safe?
My desktop environment has become a little chaotic, and, long story short, I would like to uninstall KDE and Gnome, and then reinstall Gnome. (I want to remove KDE for the time being because I just don't think I want it taking up space on my hard drive). The thing is, I don't want to throw the baby out with the bathwater. For instance, I want to make sure I don't lose settings in

And something else, that previously eluded from my thoughts:my "notifyme" script,i.e the script that is executed at an ups.status="OB" event, is: echo `date` >> /root/upsLog echo " No power, shutting down the system!" >> /root/upsLog sleep 30 control=`/usr/local/ups/bin/upsc Inform@localhost ups.status` if [ $control != OL ] then

4.92 beta update to centos5 proper words of caution
For those of you who are going to do the update from the centos5 beta to centos 5 proper despite the warnings, this is a(n incomplete) list of instructions for how to accomplish this 1. Get yourself into runlevel 3 (telinit 3 from terminal) as the dbus update will die if you're in X. 2. Setenforce 0 # turn off selinux as there have been some unconfirmed reports that it will interfere with the

Using linux on both server and client. I can run smbmount and all seems ok. But, when I try to use kfm to browse a share, I get the following messages thousands of times in /var/log/messages and things more or less hang up. I have to telinit 1 to get control of my client machine. smb_open: aph5/.directory open failed, result=-13 smb_readpage_sync: aph5/.directory open failed, error=-13 Any

console lock up
hello, I am using 2.6.21, lguest-2.6.21-307.patch.gz and an image from http://uml.nagafix.co.uk/Fedora7/Fedora7-x86-root_fs.bz2 the console hangs, is this expected or caused by the image? I can still ssh to it or if I boot in single user mode the console is available but running init3 and it's hung. also is it possible to get the last gz patch released for 2.6.21?

respawning dead tinc process
Hi Daniel, Yes, thanks and I should have mentioned that I am using pretty much the same thing you suggested on my routers, but for whatever reason couldn?t get that approach working on the linux box in question. Mark, Thanks for the upstart script. I had tried to do the same myself but couldn?t get my upstart script to work right. I was missing the ?-D? flag in my script. Added that and now

respawning dead tinc process
I have tinc 1.1pre11 running on various routers and linux cloud servers. On one of the cloud servers, under Ubuntu 12.04, tinc is mysteriously dying once in a while, leaving a dangling PID. I have been unable to track down why it is dying, but it happens infrequently enough that I care less about why it is dying than how to robustly respawn it when it dies. Before I re-invent the wheel, has
