Physical-to-Virtual (VMware) & SELinux
Hello guys,
I have a couple of servers that I'm about to virtualize to our VMware Vsphere
ecosystem. For Linux servers I read that one needs to use the stand-alone
converter (which is a live-cd that you boot from it and then you point it to
your destination ESX).
I would like to know from folks that have already done so...what was your
experience like? Did everything went smooth? Any

CPU Usage when idle
Hello guys,
Did anyone noticed how green CentOS 6 is compared to the previous
release? I've been running a couple of "CentOS 6" VMs (on our vSphere
environment) for the last couple of weeks and noticed a BIG difference
when it comes to CPU usage when the VM is completely idle. I would
like to share what I've seen in our environment:

BIND and latest update (max open files WARNING)
Hi all,
After the latest security update for bind (which came out last night), now
there's a new message on syslog, (facility: daemon, severity: warning) every
time you restart named:
max open files (1024) is smaller than max sockets (4096)
After googling for a while the solution seems to be to add this to
/etc/security/limits.conf:
named soft nofile 4096

SELinux Relabeling
Hello everyone,
If create a folder called "whatever" under /var, the context is:
root:object_r:var_t /var/whatever/
That's expected as it is under /var. If I then change its type:
chcont -t httpd_sys_content_t /var/whatever
The context looks like:
root:object_r:httpd_sys_content_t /var/whatever/
My question is...Shouldn't a relabeling of the filesystem change the type

Running SSH on a different port (with SELinux)
Hello everyone,
Now after the recent discussion on running SSH on a different port, I decided
to start a new thread but with SELinux involved.
Assuming that you have SELinux enabled, and that you changed the default port
for SSHD, let say for 1234, when I restart SSHD I don't get any AVC denials.
This is the output of: semanage -l port | grep ssh
ssh_port_t tcp

Default ACL question (EXECUTE BIT)
Hello everyone,
I'm doing some tests with ACL's and even though I can create a "default" ACL
for a directory (that includes "rwx" for the default owner), when I finally
create a file wihin that directory the execute bit is chopped off:
[joe at machine ~]$ mkdir mydir
[joe at machine ~]$ setfacl -d -m u::rwx,g::-,o::- mydir/
[joe at machine ~]$ cd mydir

Important :: Please support the development of a new Jitterbuffer for SIP
Steve Kann has developed a new jitterbuffer for IAX2, that hopefully
will be integrated into Asterisk v1.1 soon, to be part of the 1.2 stable
relase.
Zoa and his bulgarian team is porting this buffer to SIP/RTP, but needs
support in the form of funding in order to take the time to test this
out and complete it in time.
Please paypal your contribution to sponsor@astertest.com today. Every

Modify Iptables Rules (virbr0 & virbr1)
Hi,
I have some guests running in the "default" network (virbr0) and I've
also created a similar (NAT) network (virbr1). Therefore, the FORWARD
chain for the CentOS 6.4 host looks like this:
http://fpaste.org/29229/75281379/
...where line 3-7 are related to virbr0 and 8-12 to virbr1. My 2 questions:
1) I've noticed that I can ping from a guest within virbr0 to any guest

Multi-NIC network boot floppy+cd+hd+com with PXE and NBI support: does interest?
Hi!
I'm preparing what should be a general "network boot" solution for the
ones that needs to do network boot on PC without BIOS support / ROM chips.
It supports both PXE (like pxelinux.0) and NBI images.
I've prepared a precompiled multi-driver image that can autodetect and
handle nearly 30 PCI and ISA NICs.
My "remote boot kit" contains the same image in 4

character vectors not wrapping
A character vector with a single component consisting of a long string gets
truncated with $ on the right side of the R console window.
The preceding sentence, for example, assigned to 'test' by cut and paste,
renders like this (window maximized, 17" monitor, 800x600, if this matters):

authentication against win2k3 server
I've been trying to setup Samba to authenticate users against accounts
existing on a Windows 2003 Server without any backwards capability.
Ideally, this needs to be done without any changes to the Windows 2003
Server. Users will not be logging into the Samba shares at all. This
is merely for authentication.
I'm running FreeBSD 4.10-Relase #4 with Samba 3.0.8.
This is my smb.conf file:

using a /30 subnet. Right now i have this in the vm's xml for libvirt:

Printing to Samba printer causes application to abort
I am using Slackware 10.2 (kernel 2.4.29) and Samba 3.0.21c for my print
server. The client workstations are WinNT4. I have two printers on the
linux server..an HP DeskJet 600 and an Okidata B4250. I can install and
print to the HP from any of the workstations. I can install the Okidata
just fine, but when I try to print from Word, Excell, or any application Dr.

LVM Thin Volumes & Storage Pools
Hi,
Is it possible to create a storage pool based on an LVM thin pool? I
read a recent bugzilla but the problem there was that the storage-pool
became unusable AFTER creating a thinpool which is a different case.
Thanks,
