Getting the return value of the last command run
All commands return a value, usually 0 if run properly. For instance, try: $ ls && echo "done" $ lsd && echo "done" The echo command is only executed if the ls command exited successfully. If one did not add the echo command with the && after a command, how can he determine if the command exited successfully? I have a particularly troubling script that

Time for Usenet R Group?
I probably shouldn't suggest this, because I can't volunteer to implement it. However, I bring it up in the hopes that if (1) others agree and (2) the R core group think it a good idea that a suitable volunteer will come forward. I am finding that the flood of R email messages is becoming difficult to deal with, even using filters, etc., in my email client. Would we be better

DVD writer problem
I have an NEC DVD-RW ND2500A (that's not the label I bought it under, but that's what it really is.) It's supposed to read/write CDs, DVDs, DVD+Rs, and DVD-Rs. I'm basically dual booting between XP and CentOS 4. Following the recipe in "The Linux Cookbook", I tried to copy a DVD using: dd if=/dev/hdd of=/tmp/diskfile.iso then cdrecord dev=/dev/hdd fs=32m

How about a mascot for R?
R users, How come R doesn't have a mascot? Linux has one and so does LaTeX, so shouldn't R? I personally think that associating a "friendly face" with R would be a good thing for R (one letter names can be quite intimidating). I apologize if this is addressed in the FAQ. I searched the FAQ as well as the mailing list archives and checked ?mascot but to no avail. ;-)

Newsgroup
This morning I had 37 messages from the r-help list in my mailbox. I think its becoming excessive for an e-mail list. I wonder if whoever looks after this list could either move or gateway it to a usenet group? That would also eliminate the need for special purpose archiving and searching facilities since the site: http://groups.google.com would automatically provide that. That site also

Bug 13517: Forums breaking mailing list
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13517 Is Wine going to have to lose even more experienced users over a stupid bug? Does WineHQ really value new users over those who have the knowledge and are willing to help? Let's move towards resolution on this and consolidate on Google Groups already, before it's too late. -- Paul Johnson baloo at ursine.ca -------------- next part

tcltk extension: documentation?
Hi all, i'm searching for a tutorial on the tcltk extension to R. I've looked at the pages linked to the R web site, and found the examples extremely useful, but I'd like something more. Does anyone know about other documents regarding this subject? Thank you very much ciao luca

tabs ignored in here document
I thought this worked. Many web pages tell you it works. But bash is ignoring tabs in my here docs. Worst, where there are two tabs, it is functioning as a command expand in bash, where all files in the current directory are listed to complete the command. The following is the here doc I am using. Most likely the tabs will be converted to spaces in this email. But the bottom line is,

Friend's post in moderation queue for a week... why so long, please? And getting "permission denied" trying to mount an SMB share
Hi. A friend of mine (Jim Fancher) is having trouble with his Samba install on CentOS Linux. I suggested he ask on the Samba users mailing list. He joined the list and posted, and got an autoreply saying his message is being held for moderation. That was a week ago (Mon, Nov 22nd). Nothing since. I see other posts coming through since then, so wondering why his message got delayed. It was

[PATCH v2 REPOST] lib: Allow db_dump package to be a weak dependency
We went around the houses a few times last year in order to try to fix this old Debian bug: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1409024 My last attempt was: https://www.redhat.com/archives/libguestfs/2017-October/msg00058.html which I believe was neither reviewed nor rejected, so I'm reposting the same patch again, simply rebased against current git. Installing Smart Suite 97
I get to 53 percent of files copied and I get the message that c:\lotuscomponent/lttsn32.dll is in use by another application and terminates install. Help me? BTW I get a message about contacting Microsoft support about mytab11.c. Well this is a Microsoft clean installation. Took me hours to the point where the installer will load and run. -----= Posted via Newsfeeds.Com, Uncensored Usenet
