raidtab on centos 4
Hi There, I re-installed Centos 4 on a box previously running x86 Solaris 10. After a reboot a got a BAD PBR SIG so I used rescue mode and grub to install a boot loader on each of my software-raided disks. Which works fine and allows me to boot ok. My question is, what happened to /etc/raidtab the machine boots ok and lists all the raid-1 devices I set up in the install (including the

Recover RAID
Hello Everyone, First time CentOS poster :) I have CentOS 4 installed on the head node of a Sun Gridengine cluster set up in a RAID. The head node has four hard drives, and I assume that drives 1 and 2 are in a raid and then drives 3 and 4 are in another raid. I was trying to expand the OS partition on drive 1 because it was full. I took drive 1 out, put it in my Fedora 8 box as a secondary

mdadm quandary
Hello, I wonder if has seen a problem of the sorts I am describing as at the moment it is driving me nuts. We have an array of LSI disks (Hardware Raid 5) which are attached to a Linux node. The Node has a LSI929 dual fibre channel card that has a channel attached to controller A and B of the array. So we have a list of devices under /proc/partitions mapping what we are expecting to see

help with rebuilding md0 (Raid5)
Sorry, this is going to be a rather long post...Here's the situation; I have 4 IDE disks from an old snap server which fails to mount the raid array. We believe there is a controller error on the SNAP so we've put them in another box running CentOS 5 and can see the disks OK. hda thru hdd looks like this Disk /dev/hdd: 185.2 GB, 185283624960 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 22526

ext3 + raid, is resize2fs neccessary?
Consider this section: http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Software-RAID-HOWTO-4.html#ss4.14 I have not done this before and I'm leary about Step 11 which is resizing the filesystem after doing a mkraid command. This howto lacks any ext3 documentation. Some questions I have are: 1. Should I convert back to ext2 on all my filesystems before I do a mkraid? 2. If I leave the system at ext3, will the

Disk Druid - control RAID partition layout?
Is it possible to partition a disk with Disk Druid and control the order of the partitions? I want to create my own boot and swap as RAID partitions but Disk Druid won't keep them in the order I want, no matter what I specify first. I've done this before by using fdisk to make the partitions before starting Disk Druid but I thought someone said this was an old bug and should have been

Debian Sarge Root Raid + LVM + XEN install guide (LONG)
Hello fellow xenophiles and happy new year! I''ve documented the install procedure for a prototype server here since I found no similar document Anywhere on the net. It''s a Sarge-based Domain0 on linux root raid from scratch, using LVM to store the data for the domU mail server and its mailstore. I humbly submit my notes in the hope that they are useful to some weary traveller.

I tried it w/a new 250 gb for the 2nd drive but the same results. Will not boot. in druid, when I am config. the raid arrays, I always create the boot partitions

Boot from degraded sw RAID 1
OK, this is probably long, and your answer will surely make me slap my forehead really hard... please help me understand what goes on. I intend to install CentOS 5.1 afresh over software RAID level 1. SATA drives are in AHCI mode. I follow basically [1] though I have made some mistakes as will be explained. AFAIK GRUB does not boot off LVM, so I: 1. Build a 100MB RAID-type partition on each

Do software raids don't dance Samba?
Hey all, well, first of all (even if it's quite late as it's in version 3.0.7 already): thanks a lot to all who are developing and supporting Samba! I'm new to Linux and I really like the way things are happening on this OS. But now, I've reached a point where I have to raise the white flag... It seems to me like - at least my - software raid can't dance Samba. I've got

ocfs, multi path and raid
HI all, I hope someone can give me some insight on this. I have finally gotten a RAC database up and running on the RedHat AS 2.1 Linux cluster using OCFS 1.0.9.4. My XP admin has given dual luns to the drives in which my database sits. So the question comes up how do I do this? Using software raid? on the host os'es: xpinfo -il Device File ALPA Tgt Lun Port CU:LDev
