Possible CentsOS licensing issue
Dear Friends, I have few questions. 1. I have a device on which I have installed CentOS 5.2 as an operating system. Now I want to sell this device. Will there be any issue ? points to keep in mind: a. There are no changes in OS. (it is just a stripped down image of original OS) b. I have installed few generic user space applications of my own installed in that OS. I do not want to violate

looking for 4.2 minimal kickstart
Hi I am looking for an example of a kickstart file for a simple, minimal server install. I don't need any graphical apps just ssh, httpd and development tools. It seems that even when I specify only the packages I want many other packages are installed making the install very large. Any links to guides or example kickstart files would be great. Thanks, Andrew Zahn

Smallest install?
I have a 500Mb ATA Flash drive in my machine. If I deselect everything at install time (CentOS 5.0 - just for testing) it still requires 524Mb. Is there any way of doing an even smaller install? -- rgds Stephen

Kickstart from FTP or USB
Hey Everyone, I was wondering if anyone has managed to do a network install where the kickstart file is located either on an FTP site (which is also where the packages are stored) or on a USB flash drive. I've tried starting the installer with "linux ks=/dev/sda/ks.cfg" or "linux ks=/dev/sda1/ks.cfg" or "linux ks=ftp://what.ever.Ip.address/pub/ks.cfg" but

The above page talks about removing packages after install to attain the small size. however, I am getting blocked at the install page about not enough room to install. All I have selected is the base package. nothing else. Is there a way

Guide to stripping Centos 3
I responded to a post in the Dell poweredge mailing list earlier today. My answer was off the top of my head, with a bit of experimentation. The content may be useful in the Cenyos context as well to admin's looking to strip the size of an install to the bare bones. Comment welcomed. Can anyone see any packages which I have missed? -- Russ Herrold ---------- Forwarded message

Minimal server install and a few other questions.....
Hello, I was wondering what is the smallest install that anyone has managed with 4 (4.2 to be precise) ? I'm looking at a machine running as a VPN in a DMZ, so I'm going to remove/NOT INSTALL things like gcc, X, etc. I'm planning on putting this on a 1gb USB stick and booting from it. That reminds me, was there going to be a 1 CD server install image ? The other thing I noticed is

embeded R application on Windows prints broken character.
The issue was reported to me for?https://github.com/randy3k/rtichoke/issues/50 which is a python program which embeds R and provides a interface to R. With R 3.5,?for reason which i don't understand, when I typed `"a"` in the console STDOUT got `"\x02\xff\xfea\x03\xff\xfe"`?with the extra escaped characters. I notice that `\x02\xff\xfe` and `\x03\xff\xfe` are encoding

Trimming the fat out of a Centos 4.4 Installation
Hi, just to avoid re-inventing the wheel, is there any document that can help me reduce even further a "minimum" installation of Centos 4.4 (BTW can you say 600mb is minimum)? I am in the process of creating a small Centos-4.4-based Asterisk box and I need to boot it from a CF card. Deleting useless packages will help me do what i want. Example: even a minimum install of Centos 4.4 (or

Hi, I was at the Puppet talk at Oscon and I would like to try using Puppet for PXE on RHEL machines and I was wondering if there are standard minimal Kickstart recipes from which Puppet can then take over. Thanks, Jason van Zyl jason at maven.org

I have successfully setup Samba, Winbind and Kerberos w/out any problems and I am even able to pull all the info from the AD user list running the wbinfo -u, and -g and the getent passwd as well. The question I have is when it comes time to login to the Linux box from via console using my AD account and password it for some reason fail to do so,

Wanted: minimal install ks.cfg
Greetings, all. I'm in need of a minimal ks.cfg file for the smallest possible install with yum. I've got the scripting for yum to install the apps I need, I just want to insure all the cruft is not on the system as well. Using the s-c-ks app, the smallest I have gotten is 600MB. This is for a server appliance vm that I need to deploy quickly and dynamically. Thanks Dnaiel

"core" installs of 5.2 missing crucial packages like yum, selinux-policy-targeted, vim-minimal, etc.
I had a 5.0 kickstart server which did "core" installs of CentOS (i.e.: "%packages --nobase"). I recently setup a 5.2 kickstart server. Using the same kickstart configs, I notice a few packages are always missing, notably: yum (!!), selinux-policy-targeted (even though I have "selinux --enforcing" in the kickstart, it always ends up with that package missing and

Suggestions to improve this minimal kickstart config for CentOS 6?
I've come up with the following kickstart config (see below) for deploying a minimal CentOS 6 VM. It takes about 460MB. I'm assuming that all of the -firmware RPMs aren't needed for a VM installation, so I removed them. Also removed as many selinux packages as possible since I don't need that. I was wondering whether anyone could offer any further suggestions on minimizing
